    What a brave and curious goat! 😂 Fantastic shots Gerry showing off the views, flora and wildlife - the mountain tops and lakes looked spectacular! You had it all on this trip - adventure, solitude and even great weather. Glad the cap made it home with you too 😎

      Miriam, I do think it was after my Weetabix🐐😊 It was cool to see those wild goats on Dooish, not being aware that they were present in this area. They hung about for ages and I was worried they were going to grab something and head off with it as they are famed for eating literally anything😊 It is a glorious area for walking and wild camping (as you know) and I think it was a good decision to return and wild camp there. The weather was just about perfect and there was just enough breeze to keep the midges at bay for most of the time - I did get some midge bites and a tick! Still surprises me that I can meet no one else on those hills on a Sunday.

    That sunset was amazing, you really had it all on that one Gerry, the walkable river, the lake, the goats and the deer, each one so surprised that they hadn't the summit to themselves, only discovering it at the last second. Well done.

    I did a similar route last year in May, it was a glorious experience and oddly had than same chilly Northern wind on the summit of Dooish, luckily only fifty or so meters down the side you came up there are amazing sheltered and flat spots for tents. Glenveagh and the Derryveagh mountains is an amazing place, seen more variety of wildlife there than I would in months of hiking in northern ireland. A golden eagle flew right past us only a few hundred feet away, twice!. Falcons, tons of dragon fly, red grouse, more red dear than I could count. It's a special place imo and can't wait to see more of the benefits of re-wilding over the years.

    • @gerrymcveigh
      @gerrymcveigh  Рік тому

      It is a well cool place for walking and wild camping👍 There were loads of dragonflies along the river, though I suppose there is loads of food too with all those other biting flying things🦟 I think I saw 2 Golden Eagles on a previous trip in the area though that was the only time so well cool when they are spotted. I loved the bits of old forest in Glenveagh and there are fenced off areas where that rewilding is taking place with Scots Pine etc. They have good info on the website for Glenveagh National Park. There are so few trees in the hills of Ireland that it is great to see any!

It was one of those trips were you could have just sat down and stared at the stunning views on so many occasions. I had loads of time on the summit of Dooish in the evening and the morning which satisfied this urge😊 I love hearing birdsong on the hills. Deer are cool to see though (like sheep) there is that thought of the impact upon the landscape by their presence. Thank you for watching👍

Lovely green mountains, wonderful views from the tops. Exciting to see deer, sheep and goats. They all looked like fun friends. Super cool to see a frog and the beetles too. I bet the grass was softer than the rock slab, at least I hope so! It’s really interesting to see how the top of Dooish has lots of flat rocks mixed with grassy areas.
