  • Say good bye to your documents! DO NOT BUY A SHREDDER! Eventually will break out and you will have to buy another shredder. No good. Planned obsolescence!
    Every diplomat need to see this video: EMBASSY UNDER ATTACK! NEED TO DESTROY DOCUMENTS FAST! SLOW SHREDDER? SAVE YOUR COUNTRY... WATCH THIS VIDEO. The janitor may know where the bleach is. No drill and paint turbine? No problem... use a broom stick!
    Trust me! Your confetti machine will break in no time and you will have to buy another one again. Here a simple method to destroy sensitive paper documents. No matter how many you have, make pulp out of them. Yes! Make a vat of puree out of your most sensitive documentation. This will be safer than long strips that can be reattached with scotch tape like a puzzle. This method requires little effort it can be done faster than a shredder and will render all documents completely pulverized to every cellulose strand.
    Destroy your unwanted paper documents the easy way without fire, scissors or shredders. Protect your identity, do not let crooks steal vital information.. Are you ready to destroy 10 years of receipts in boxes? Super old medical records? It's your responsibility to protect your bank account, your identity, your privacy. Shredders... always jamming if you add more than 7 pages together...
    I have purchased over the years over 6 shredders... high end stuff at office supply stores, paying more than $350 dollars each, plus the super expensive shredder oil that require the blades to be maintain. This were not cheap shredders but cross cut paper devices.Time and time again the shredder blades jammed destroying itself. Every year was another $350 bucks! Extended warranty? forget it, it always expires 3 days later. The last shredder I have purchased was brand new and defective from factory! talking about QC (Quality Control) I think I got a refurbished one and paid for "A" stock merchandise.
    The office Supply store will not take it back so here I am fuming, at a loss of 350$ bucks and now I have to wait 3 weeks to send back the machine to the manufacturer for a replacement. This 3 weeks gave me the time to chill out and find a way to destroy paper documents in other ways but a noise shredder.Finally I experimented different ways to destroy documents and sensitive papers like, unsolicited credit card applications, junk mail, old tax records, bank statements, very old bills, expired medical records and even ex girlfriends love letters. I experimented with fire and a Mexican patio "chimenea" and it was dangerous. Fire creates tons of ashes, some paper smell bad when in flames. My neighbors deserve flower smells not credit card application papers that stinks and produce toxic smoke and green flames. Papers when burned can create the potential for an accidental spark to go the wrong way and then you will be destroying more than a bunch of sensitive documents.DO NOT BURN YOUR DOCUMENTATION. YOU MAY START AN ACCIDENTAL FIRE. Have try ripping lots of paper with my bare hands or cutting them with scissors... it toked for ever and it did deliver a good amount of blisters in my sore hands... I experimented different ways to destroy documents with water but after a while decomposed paper smell bad. I have tried the old paper mache formula with vinegar, salt and water with poor results too. Finally I found the perfect ratio of regular bleach with water. It was a great solution to my unwanted documentation problems. With the aid of my old electrical drill and a paint turbine mixer from a hardware store I was able to destroy very easily any paper document. The paint mixer attachment cost less than 10 bucks! And the best part was I could destroy a big batch of documents, papers, and any type of cellulose thing! Even a bulky phone book! You know... time is valuable, when you shred documents with a chop chop machine after 25 shreddings it overheats and quits working. Yes! you do not know when that creepy red light will lit and it's over now you have to wait 45 minutes for the blades to cool down so your flow of work gets interrupted. Then oil the machine and drips everywhere.
    See my video and learn the easy way how to eliminate old documents to the point of absolute total obliteration. "Don't shred, Just blend"
    Always remember, read precautions on handling bleach from your bottle label. Unless you understand that water and electricity NEVER MIX you should not use this method.

      +Don Wolfberg Well, if you can afford a pair of scissors you definitely don't have sensitive documentation and in case you do, the blending method it's easier than getting two wood sticks trying to make fire. This video really is for people who did have 3 shredders that broke and got tired of buying the next one.My next video will probably be: How to Destroy Sensitive Documents with a Thermonuclear Device. Love you comment!Thank you for posting.

      Instead of using the drill, you can just let it sit there in the bucket for about two weeks. You get the same result, just not as quickly. That's what I do.

    I have been using a shredder, and it's tedious when you have a big pile of it. I wondered if just soaking in water would work, and then bleach came to mind. This is great! Thanks for sharing! Fires are a danger in our area, so I didn't want to chance that either...not to mention the toxic fumes. Good job on the video!

    Started doing this when I finally cleaned out the storage room. Yikes!! Crap from the early 00's I had no use for.
    I used a 10 gallon bucket with a lid, healthy squirt of dish soap , hot water, and threw away the bulk, let it set for 24 hours. Swirled it around with a wooden spoon....just as good as a drill beater. I added recent junk mail, a few more documents I found, kept adding hot water and dish soap....maybe some bleach and a detergent pod to boot. Oh, it's pulp alright.
    I left it there soaking for about a week and when I opened it one morning.....peeew!
    Like a rank smell of mildew and pee.....dumped that gray mashed potato looking mess into a double bagged trash bag, and out it went.
    It's worth it. Saves time, saves electric, and saves your shredder for those stupid plastic coated advertisements and fake credit cards with your name embossed on them.

      Middy Mizzle Hi Middy, you can read plenty of comments below on what to do with the mush. But you can basically:
      A) Drain the liquid juice with a big spaghetti colander and dispose the damp pulp on the trash or recycle bin.
      B) You can reuse the liquid juice for another batch of documents. Water and Bleach can last you about 4 batches.
      C) You can fill holes in your back yard
      D) You can use the paste to create art as paper mache.
      E) You can compact the pulp and create bio-mass bricks for winter. Make sure you take out any plastics.
      F) You can create paper or cardboard by using a mosquito screen from a window. Place a thing coat of wet pulp and let it dry for few days under the sun.
      G) You can mix paper pulp with cement and make lightweight papercrete.
      Check more comments below, many visitors provided great ideas. What is yours?

    Dig a hole in the back yard. Dump the whole sheets of paper, or rip in half or 4ths. Add water. Cover with soil to bury it. Fast and easy. Could plant a bush or tree or flowers on top of the paper. Unless there's frost or snow on the ground.

    I did have a drill in my garage... Did have a paint turbine from my last painting job...Cheap bleach cost less than $2,50 per gallon and you still can destroy the documents with water only. Unless you are in the Sahara or Kalahari desert were water is expensive, still cheaper and effective than a 350$ cross cut shredder. I have purchased 5 shredders in the last 7 years... Not any more. If shredders would last longer this video would not existed.

  • @eddyvideostar
    @eddyvideostar 8 років тому +8

    Daniel: This is a very good and useful video; especially in these times where the emphasis is on security regarding shredding/disposing of sensitive documents. It is also just a crux for the shredding companies to accrue more profits along with selling their machines at a higher price for special effects. You have saved much for many. Obviously, one needs to do this in the back yard where there is fresh air, otherwise, the aroma of the bleach may be too pungent. Bleach rapidly discolors clothing -- so beware. One should attire with rags (ragged clothing as jeans and sandals, etc.) upon doing this experiment or chore. Bid you all of the best. This is feasible for the individual in the home/yard, but impractical for an office environment as the employees would just abuse the time and themselves.

    This smelled terrible, was a lot slower in 24 hours to soften the paper, and the mush was quite a bit tricker to deal with than expected. Wear clothes that you're ready to ruin. Work in areas where the splashes (Oh yes, there will be splashes) can't cause you lasting grief. The laundry room, for instance, is not a wise choice.

    Use my idea because i have tried it and it works since I have bucket full of documents. Use a pillowcase with a zipper. First tear the papers in half or more by hand then then pack them in the pillowcase, use 2 if necessary. Put half a scoop of detergent. Put it in the washing machine and run for 20 minutes. Half way through open the lid and move the pillowcase around to break the pulp. After the spin is done and water has been drained you will be left with a damp paper pulp. Take it out of the pillowcase and break it apart. Most of the ink will have disapreared and if you try to take papers apart they will just break and make thing unreadable. Results are better than a paper shredder and it takes less time.

  • @blipco5
    @blipco5 6 років тому +2

    OK, THIS ABSOLUTELY WORKS. It turns documents into oatmeal. Here's my story. I had 25 pounds of documents, cancelled checks, you name it. 25 pounds is about as much as you can stuff to overflowing one of those two handled cardboard document boxes. I used just hot water and let them sit in a big plastic tub overnight. I went to Home Depot and paid $12 for a cement mixing agitator , NOT the two winged joint compound mixer. I beat the files up. Shoveled some mush off, added water, repeat. FUN FACTS...25 pounds of mush documents fills up TEN - 5 gallon buckets. From there I emptied them into plastic bag lined trash barrels. I used three. Now....what to do with 50 gallons of mush.

    • @danpoleon
      @danpoleon  6 років тому

      Excellent! Glad I was able to help with the concept. Now 2 things you can do with the mush. 1 strain it some how like spaghetti with a big collander and recycle the pulp into: celullose bricks to put on fire or use pulp for arts and crafts. 2 dispose after squashing most water into recycle bin or straight to the trash. Same way you would if it was shredded paper. Thank you for your comment!

      +Daniel Postan ....Thanks, it's going to be a long process whatever I do. I had called around to shredding companies and, high costs aside, I asked if I could bring the box in and witness it being shredded. They all said no. I would have to empty it into a large secure bin and it would be shredded later. I wasn't comfortable with that. You can't read oatmeal :-)

    I did not read all the comments here so this might be redundant. I discovered that adding vinegar to bleach makes it MANY times more powerful (FUME WARNING!!) For instance if you put some bleach solution on a stain and it looks like it is not coming out anytime soon, a little bit of vinger sprayed on the bleached spot will likely have it disappear instantly! So I am thinking that since print on a paper is really a stain too then CAREFULLY adding vinegar to the mix IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA and with a suitable mask and gloves eye protection (THAT with or without vinegar !) ought to increase the efficiency many times.

I decided to do a fire pit and let the kids enjoy smores except these papers don't burn easily at all and the smoke was too toxic to breath in let alone roast marshmallows. I'm going to try this and will let you know how it turns out. (fingers crossed)

    • @danpoleon
      @danpoleon  10 років тому +2

      Glad you are not burning the papers because with statements and stuff you will also burn the cellophane contained on window envelopes and other glues UV coatings and other nasty stuff. This system does not require Bleach. The bleach is only used if you want to accelerate the process. Just use plain water, but wait couple of days for the cellulose fibers to get soft... then blend. Read below many comments on what to do with the pulp if you want to recycle. if not strain the water and out to the trash. Nobody will be able to put together your documents again.

  • @danpoleon

    Strain the liquid that can be re- use for the next batch of documents. Dispose the damp paste to the trash, recycle bin, use for paper mache crafts and other creative projects. The pulp is inert. The bleach will dissipate. If you are concern with the bleach use water only... Will take longer to dissolve and with time it may stink.

    I'm going to line a 20 gal bin with a heavy duty trash bag and then make the paper diarrhea inside of that. Once it's done, I'll put some drain holes at the bottom, leave it out in the sun to dry out then toss it. Our trash collectors like to rummage through the bins before dumping them so this is the method I will try. Burning it sucks and shredding is inconvenient if you have a lot of documents.

    What to do with the sludge:
    I did not find it that difficult to deal with the resulting sludge. It's all about patience. Not much work, mostly just a lot of waiting.
    BTW: You can do the process in the video without using bleach, but you need to let the paper soak in water longer. Some claim it starts to smell bad. I soaked about 3 days and didn't notice any odor.
    After first using a broom handle and then the turbine to shred the paper (I mixed once, waited another day, then did some more mixing), I then used a large thick vinyl sheet, the kind used to protect your carpets when painting, about 9 x 12 feet. I carefully dumped the pulp onto this sheet, letting the water flow away. Then I spread the pulp uniformly around the sheet, and let it dry in the sun. This took about 10 or 20 minutes to do. The rest is mostly waiting.
    At night I pulled the sheet into my garage. In the day I pulled it out again, redistributed the paper some so the wet material would come to the top, and then let it bake in the sun. I probably spent about 10-20 minutes total interacting with the paper over the next four days.
    On the fourth day, I swept the dry paper fragments up and placed them in the paper recycle bin. It kind of looked like a big bin of popcorn.
    If I had done this in the winter, I'd have tried doing all the drying by running a dehumidifier inside my closed garage. But that's only a theory, I can't personally verify that would work well.

      Use a large sieve or colander and put a weight on top of it to force the water out faster. It doesn't need to be kind direct sun. It just needs to be warmed by the sun (or another heat source) to dry out.

    I think the water alone will soften the paper up for "mashing". Saves money too. I realise you may be trying to bleach the ink. But if it's all mashed up, even if ink remains, it's unreadable.
    Because it's still paper, the whole lot can be used in the garden, as mulch. The earthworms will continue eating. For decoration, put the paper mash below, and top up with nicer-looking wood chips.

    The bleach is not necessary; it just makes it go faster and gives you a uniform color. Hot water works just fine.
    You can quickly drain most of the water off by taking another 5 gallon bucket and drilling a lot of 2mm holes in the bottom and making a frame to hold it from falling into the large bucket. Once you've got that set up, put the drilled out bucket in a tub or work sink on a couple of pieces of wood or two bricks. This allows the water to easily drain off. Leave it there to get most of the moisture out (do something else for 30 minutes -- it won't actually take that long). Then take the much lighter bucket and put on the big bucket where it can finish draining. For best results, put a disk of wood, plastic, or metal (it should fit down to the bottom of the bucket) on top and put weight on it to press the water out.
    When you're done, you can let it dry out further and then you have a paper brick you can burn in your fire pit.

    For non embassy etc it is far better to just let water do it's work slowly ...boiling water helps a lot I found! It invovles some elbow work getting it all into pulp but it is kinda of fun in a sick way...I thought anyway lol. After it was pulp I spead it out to let it all sun dry over a couple days... then I put it in bags and used it in the barrel I put dog droppings in as a sort of kitty litter to keep it from stinking, if that is nothing you are interested in, consider adding it slowly into a compost bin with yard and food waste (NOT meat OR pet poop if your pets are meat eaters! BTW compost can be toxic to pets and they LOVE to get into it and snack so keep it secured so they can't!!

      I have 5 years of cc receipts from a coffee shop I used to own, 30-40 receipts per day, everyday. Each day is stapled together with the batch receipt (has full CC numbers on it) and the z-out from the drawer. It took me over an hour to get through 2 months in my shredder which is a pretty good shredder (takes 10 full sheets of paper at once). Even with all the staples removed, it still took very long to feed it all through the shredder and then the shredder started getting pretty hot. Also there is only so much you can put through the shredder at once, so If you don't have someone else handing you more paper, you are constantly reaching down to grab more and it goes a lot slower than you would think. I will definitely use this method for the rest of it, the whole 5 years in one small trash can overnight! No need to worry about the staples either!

    • @milkytech2466
      @milkytech2466 7 років тому +1

      Also, those 2 months of receipts filled the shredder twice, which filled 2/3 of a 13gl trash bag. So 1 more month fills that bag, so I would need to fill 20 trash bags with shredded material for all 5 years!

    I gave this a try and booyah, I have a bucket of mush. Sorry Office-Max no new shredder for me. btw, Does the bleach accelerate the decomposition or just make it smell fresh? Would you consider hydrogen peroxide,baking soda or enzymes as accelerants (by them selves)? I was just thinking of finding an additive to speed up the process. Thanks for the inspiration!

    • @danpoleon
      @danpoleon  9 років тому +2

      Thank you Steve for the positive comment. I have not tested Hydrogen Peroxide nor a hydrogen bomb. I only tested Laundry detergent with poor results, then tried softener and again poor results. Went with bleach and it did the job! I needed to destroy sensitive documents on regular basis. Breaking shredders every 18 months was costing us... so we needed an effective system that was fast. If you use water only, in order to soften the paper you will need about 3 days. If you do one batch only is not a problem but when you recycle the water juices to do a second batch it will stink. The bleach does 2 things. It will accelerate the decomposition of cellulose and prevent smell. You can start a first batch and continue adding paper documents to the mix, after a week you can make the big blend and bye bye documents. With Bleach and water you can add papers day after day... Another way to do it is: Do your first batch and then strain it with a spaghetti colander. Then reuse the juice for the next batch.The bleach will continue strong for up to about 4 batches, then it will dissipate. This way a bottle of bleach can last a long time obliterating a lot of sensitive documentations. Every embassy should watch this video, specially under attack!
      As for the pulp there are several things you can do. A: Biomass bricks for winter. B: Paper mache for creative projects C: Filler for holes in the back yard. D: Dispose pulp in your recycle bin or dispose as you would shredded paper from a shredder. E: if you have cats, strain pulp let it dry and make kitty litter after dry. If you test Peroxide or other common household let us know your results. Thanks and happy blending of social security numbers and bank statements.

    Well, I tried it. And it works. Paper into pulp. If anyone wants to know what NOT to while trying this technique. Happy to enlighten you...
    I don't know how much paper you normally pulp in one batch, but I might have tried to do too much. Or I'm a lightweight. I found it be quick, but labor intensive. I saw that you use a colander to strain liquid, and I used that too. Required many colander "batches" to remove all the pulp from the garbage bin and the water was very slow to drain. I was having to press and squeeze small amounts at a time. Is that how you do it? I kept thinking there had to be a better way than what I was doing.. I was scooping out of the pulp bin into the colander (sitting on top of another bucket to drain) and then I would have to 'work' the pulp to remove the water. I then just dumped the strained pulp into a garble bag to take to recycling bin outside later. It was heavy.
    I have 5-6x times that amount of old paperwork I have been storing to dispose of...lots of straining to happen.... I wish the straining process could be easier and quicker. I wish I had done this outside (yes, mistake #1) I actually looked around the garage for anything that would work as a giant strainer for the whole bin to strain. Like mesh screen... but didn't come up with anything yet.
    Sorry so long! let me know if you have any suggestions

    • @danpoleon
      @danpoleon  9 років тому

      Well... this is what I do... after a nice blending I have another tall bucket like the one on the video. I have found a rectangular metalic spagetti strainer that fits on top of the bucket nicely. I just scoop pulp with water and pulp and place it on the strainer until full. Then I leave and an go make another video about farting lizards. After a while the pulp will be down and damp. You can now dump the pulp to trash, recycle bin or use it to create biomass, paper mache items or fill holes in your yard. I go back to the bucket with pulp and repeat the process. It may take me 3 or 4 times to do this since is not an industrial set up. I do this twice a month more or less.The liquid juice can be recycled if with bleach about 4 batches. If water alone, it will start to stink.
      Please let me remind the audience if you use a shredder you still have to dispose the paper too. It may weight less but this system is cheaper in the long run and you can destroy more documents faster without destroying an expensive shredder.
      Look for big strainers that can fit over a bucket and try it!
      And... about the farting lizard it´s true here´s the video I did: ua-cam.com/video/uI6ur-eK1Tk/v-deo.html

      @k10hill 9 років тому +3

      Daniel Postan Hi, thanks for the reply. As I mentioned, I had lots to destroy and have kept going. I did finally find a method that was easier for me - I found a short rectangular bin that is grated and I had another bin that the grated bin fit across the top of. I was able to dump the whole five gallon bucket into the grated bin and wait. When I got impatient, I went ahead and help the draining along with a bit of squeezing (once I'm past this massive amount I have to do, I will wait for it do drain on its own). I started running 3 buckets at time.
      Today, I got really ambitious - I still had/have a lot to do... so I took a tall mesh laundry bag, placed it in a 50 gallon trash can, put tons of paper in it, poured all the 5 gallon buckets of bleach water into the can, and I'm waiting on it now. I have a flat style paint mixer that doesn't catch on the mesh. I'm hoping I will just be able to pull the bag out of the can and let it drain.... fingers crossed.
      Happy pulping! Thanks for the information.
