Julia, kiddo, I can watch you fix anything! You’re the bright spot to my day! Sadly, I’m the only one in my family and friends who like fennel/tarragon!
Same here! I make a potato & fennel gratin that gets by, but it's full of Bechamel and Gruyere that mutes the fennel flavor, but any other form of fennel I'm on my own.
I made this tonight with pork steak and corn on the cob. I could eat it this salad every day for the rest of my life!!! I ran out of mayo so half mayo and half nonfat Greek yogurt. And I'm hypoglycemic so I used golden monk fruit instead of sugar. This was so delicious that I ate more after dinner instead of dessert! Thanks Julia!
Fennel to Italians is like candy. Anise is a homey family tradition-rich flavor for us. Love the beautiful slaw salad and it’s healthy freshness. We also cook fennel. My grandma would sauté it with onion and garlic and EVOO with just a small amount of butter for richness. Add this over your favorite pasta with pasta water to loosen the sauce. Then when served she would wilt the fennel prawn over the pasta bowl. OMG. Was a favorite of mine! Great recipe! Thank you.
I’ve made a somewhat similar apple-fennel salad before, and used a spralizer attachment on my Kitchenaid to quickly produce similar sized pieces. Much easier for those of use who don’t have pro knife skills,
Julia, I love watching you cook. I am going to try this recipe. I am glad that you said that it could be scaled down as I will be making this for two. Thanks for the recipe!!
Your salad combination is enticing especially your description as a palate cleanse. I will try to make this myself, I think it will be delicious no matter what I do.
@@fordhouse8b haha. No. But that doesn't mean it wasn't there. I just imagine me doing this and the image I see is me with shortened fingers or nothing chopped but the cutting board. XD
@@baluvideo The key to safely cutting fast is to have a very sharp knife and to curl your fingers so the the side of the knife is always in contact with your knuckles. And of course also a lot of practice. Onions and ripe tomatoes are excellent for practice.
I made this last week. It was a hit! Thanks! I'm trying it again tonight, but I'm replacing the apple with some jicama that I have. It worked in my dinner prep taste-test. We'll see what the family thinks in a few.
@@smilingpuppetman9609 that could be taken a few ways and with my imagination, it could lead to a hot session of passionate love making😘😘😘😘😘... So baby boy, before you embark on that line of thought, BE WARY OF WHOM YOU ARE DEALING!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
That salata is excellent, Julia. We all liked it a lot. I was surprised. I’ll be making that for everyone. As you said for get togethers Perfect just unusual enough. I had never heard of it!
Delicious! I ended up with a fennel bulb and didn’t know what to do with it. I’d never had it before. Fennel smells and tastes amazing. Question. What do I do with the leftover fennel leaves?
Exciting! I mostly eat fennel bulb stir-fried with potato and onion, so I've been trying to find ways I like it fresh. I recently tried a recipe for fresh fennel and orange salad, and I was just kind of underwhelmed. I'm allergic to apples; can you think of something that might be a suitable replacement? Maybe jicama for crunchiness? I've only had that once and don't remember what I tasted like. Maybe Asian pear would be better!

I know. I call it the dessert vegetable.

Any body’s do not like tarragon and fennel ,shouldn’t be invited to eat .
Love, love, love... The easiest most refreshing flavorful salad! Thank you!
Hallelujah! My CSA offers fennel, but I’ve not found recipes that excite me; this does! Thank you.

Julia is the queen of knife skills.

What’s fennel PRAWN?
Thank you. I’m going to try your recipe, I don’t think I’ve ever eaten channel before I know I’ve never prepared it.
I always enjoy Julia working. She's really good. I enjoy her knife skills, even though she said this is not a knife skill vid.
The core of the fennel is a good example of a "cook's treat" or kitchen snack. It is sweet and is similar to a celery heart
I made this salad today and it was incredibly delicious. Thank you, Julia!
Great use of fresh uncooked fennel and I like the various dressings you mentioned. Thanks
Just your smile makes everything better!❤
Julia really should do a knife skills series
Julia is simply the BEST!
I liked how you linked the three recipes into a meal.
She has such a friendly, approachable style that makes everything seem easy! Thank you, Julia!

Just ate this after it sat in the frig overnight - AMAZING!😋

Thank you for this idea ! The addition of tarragon is new to me - I can imagine it must be delicious !
Will certainly try it this way. That was quick and beautiful and I know just as tasty.
This is not a knife test. - Chops up everything for a salad perfectly in 25 seconds... XD I love it!
Perfectly? Did you not see that chonky piece of apple on the cutting board as she was chopping the tarragon?

Yesssss
I also like to add blue berries
Making tonight! Thanks! I like the full length videos AND these shorties!
That looks amazing. I have a party this weekend and I'm bring this for sure!!!
I look forward to trying it. I bought the fennel and green apples. I hope it turns out as good as your's looks.

There's something satisfying about hearing your knife hit the cutting board as it sliced/chops through food. It's almost therapeutic for me...
you again with your one handed typing

I love fennel and am looking to eat some light meals before we go on vacation. This fits the bill!
Wow! Looks delicious. I've got everything but the fennel!👍
I'll have to try this recipe Julia looks so light and refreshing !!!
I love this idea. Am going to try it today.
Made this tonight and it IS wonderful! Keep sharing, Julia!
Looks good. Love fennel tea.
that looks REALLY good! i love gala apples - that's about all i buy!
To some people, they don't like the fennel's licorice-like taste, but to me, it makes things interesting.
Looks so great! I assume, since you emphasize that you bring it to picnics, that the acidic dressing keeps the apple and fennel from oxidizing?
I love the flavor of fresh tarragon. Gotta make this.
You could use the matchstick blade on your mandolin for the apples: if you have a slanted blade.
Looks good. I am going to try this!
wow...looks great!
I'm making a fennel salad today for supper.
Oh I want to try that!
Looks delicious!
I enjoyed bitter coleslaw.
Oh I want to try this!!!
I will make that. Thank you .
That looks so good!
LOVE. THIS. 💜💚💙
Great dish thank you!
Please use a glass bowl next time so we can see
Making this tomorrow.

I toss some Jicama in my slaws. Tried it in this. Rocked!!
Sembra un gran bel lavoro 👍👏

Hi ATK
Salutations from California 😋
First time see the root of fennel

What is the knife used? Loved the kiritsuke design handle looks beautiful
Made by Feder. www.federknives.com/
Thanks John
Nice!👍
Yumm!! 🥰
*wipe wipe* right on the floor…lol oh Julia.
YouARE very cute, Julia. Love that smile.
What did you plate it with, your Bistro Slaw, Julia?
If olive oil and lemon juice dressing, how much for each. Not a mayo fan.
fridge pickles using herbs besides dill.
😋
Add some OJ?
So basically cole slaw?
Would a pear pair better with the fennel?
💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
A lovely simple summer salad, but ‘bistro’ slaw? That’s as silly as ‘cafe ham’ or ‘restaurant toast’ 😂
Girl, as you get a little older you’re getting cuter.
First they’re free, then they’re not. Pfffooey!!! Take a HIKE.
You're pretty enough that you don't need so much makeup.
Fennel is disgusting. If I want licorice I'll buy some candy. Soo gross!!
Would a pear pair better with the fennel?
