Jessica, that way of paying off mortgage at an earlier stage is not uncommon. Even doubling your monthly mortgage payment on a 20-year mortgage can reduce it to 10 years. Sometimes, some of these mortgage companies can slap some penalty for paying it off early so it's good to check with them just like Jessica did with hers. Good presentation, Jessica. Keep educating Ghanaians on some of these issues.

So what I concluded is that the real secret to paying off your mortgage early is to have access to side hustles that can bring in huge (I e. $10k-$20k) bulk sums and make large reductions on the outstanding sum. It also means that you need a good enough job to be able to secure the mortgage in the first place. Thanks for sharing. Perhaps a follow up video for those who don't have such fortunes, showing an alternative way to pay off risky mortgages quickly? But please make clear - mortgages in foreign denominations is extremely risky due to exchange rate volatility. I would guess there are far more failure stories than success stories when this route is utilised.

However, Jess, sometimes, the challenge is not actually about falling short of ideas, instead, opportunity accounts most of the woes of our youth today. I would want to use myself as an example; I always comtemplate on issues of this nature - I would want to make things happen but then, I am faced with the pole challenge of cash flow. Sometimes friends admire my competence and say "hey you are very very lucky, you speak fluent English, French and a little Spanish so you can go places". But then I sit back after reading so much over the internet and all that and I'm still faced with is that same question, ..."where is the opportunity going to come from?" I've followed your video very earnestly, there is part that you detailed how you funded the mortgage in just 2 and half years and the secret was extra deals outside media. So I would say "you were fortunate." I am teacher, a competent bilingual(English & French) and sometimes I really wish and want to do something extra, but where would that extra "stuff" come from? And certainly that is what can really help to acquire a mortgage and not really this CAGD salary something which is always fraught with arrears. This is my story. I like to find that bank,it's either they don't know what they're doing or just very generous.🙂Such deal dont exist in England,the banks here just want more and more of your money and still keep the years.lnfact there is what is called early payment charges. Which basically means they charge for wanting to payoff your mortgage early and the charges are calculated based on how much extra early repayment you make...Gratitudes!! Cheers.

Jessica, new sub here, just started following from Canada. I have a few questions. How come your mortgage be in US$ when the mortgage was given in Ghana or did you get it from a bank abroad? Also were you hit with a penalty for paying off 18yrs earlier? Thx
In Ghana, mortgages are either in cedis or US dollars. The cedi mortgages usually have as high as 30% interest while the USD is around 12%. 2. Yes i paid a penalty. I do understand that they don't do that anymore now though. Thanks for the sub

You chose to take the latter offer which is mostly unexpected but smarter because you're house would be paid off a 20 year mortgage in 2 1/2 years and then again even sooner because you came up with the remaining balance. You're right...its a mu$t to have several different streams of revenue. Income from several sources allows financial freedom and opportunities.
