I use to live in sf, but my parents got a house in Daly City because it was way cheaper at the time! Glad they got a house here because it ain’t cheap anymore 😩
At around the 18:40 mark, the vehicle crossed over into Pacifica, the town just southwest of Daly City. All footage after that isn't Daly City but Pacifica. I must have spent thousands of hours driving all those streets from 1980 to 1993 as a patrol officer for the Daly City Police Department. Still looks the same. I lived on Westlawn from 1977 to 1984. If my wife hadn't had enough of the fog ( she grew up in the Sunset ), I'd probably still be living there and would have retired from the PD.
I grew up in Daly City, it was weird being the only Jamaican kid in westmoor highschool, but I will always consider DC my home. I live in Texas now and my house is 3 times the size the house I grew up in and is about 1/3 the value of the house currently lol.
Dude I used to live on 87th in Daly City right after where you turn to go to west lake and I lived on Hillside boulevard right by the 7-11 ,I miss my neighborhood.
I actually enjoyed the history lesson. I was one of the chosen few to have been born at Seton back when it was still Mary's Help (1973to be exact.) It does bring back memories since I haven't really been there in years other than passing through. Wish you'd have done some by the BART station which was my old stompin grounds. I used to live on Hillcrest between De Long and San Diego. Haven't lived there in like 30 years. Still dig the vid, tho! Another little factoid was there was a song called "Little Boxes" that was said to have been written about Daly city.
I was born at Chloe hospital in 1965 just before they opened Mary’s help but got my tonsils removed and stitches on my scalp at Mary’s help ,born and raised in Daly City and Winston manor . Does anyone remember the electronics store at the top of the hill Daly City and what ever you bought there you got a free bicycle? Daly City was always called little Manila
yep, and i think his brother also had a house on the same block--- if I remember correctly, didn't he have a double-lot house, with an indoor pool? And, btw, I had the Southgate South Mayfair paper route.... 1961-62
@@samuelfreeman2181 Didn’t know his brother lived there too. His house did have an indoor swimming pool. It is on Northgate. I delivered the SF Progress and Daly City Record. After we moved to Walnut Creek I got a paper route, but it was too hard because the houses were a lot wider than in Westlake so ended up walking way more. What paper did you deliver?
@@mmaranta785 What a coincidence! In 1963 we moved to Concord. My parents had settled on 2 homes, one was in a tract in Walnut Creek at the corner of Ygnacio Valley Road and Oak Grove Road and it had a swimming pool. The other was a brand new house in Arlington Estates right next to Clayton Valley High School in Concord. They choose the Concord house. My first paper route was the News-Call Bulletin - I think that was an after-school route, and I only had that one for a short time. But my other route was the Examiner. I remember Sundays being very hard with all of the inserts that I had to add. The papers were too big to carry all of them in the over-the-shoulder bags, so I had to use the big cart to deliver them all. It took twice as long, and you couldn't throw them up onto the porches. One of my most vivid memories was the day it actually snowed in Westlake. I was up before dark to deliver my papers and was first to see all of the lawns covered in snow. For laughs, I checked Zillow, and our house (1391 S. Mayfair) is now valued at $1.3 million --- crazy, huh?
@@samuelfreeman2181 Yeah prices are crazy expensive now. My brother lives in Concord now and we went to Pleasant Hill High School. There really wasn’t much out in Walnut Creek and Concord in the 60’s. I found the East Bay was just too hot. I had gotten used to Pacifica and Daly City weather. I live in San Bruno now and it’s just right. I couldn’t get a paper route with a real paper like the Chronicle or Examiner because there was this one kid in my neighborhood who had like 5 Chronicle routes at the same time. He was making more money than his teachers in Junior High School!
WTF... the history of Daly City, but the last 5 minutes of the video is actually driving through Pacifica. That's Manor Drive that you turned left on and then drove up the hill towards Skyline Drive and the Serramonte district. I lived at the bottom of Manor Dr. and you drove past my old house LOL! I lived and grew up in Daly City from 1959 until 1980, when I moved to Pacifica. To bad you just showed the Westlake District, and none of the historic older side of Daly City that borders the S.F. city limits, or Southern Hills side overlooking the Cow Palace.
I need a vacation a change of scenery I'm so sicc of the east coast I wanna visit California I've been to Los Angeles and It was okay but I wanna see something different
What a let down this ride-video was. NO Mission St, Hillside Ave, Junipero Serra Blvd, and NO John Daly Blvd... No landmarks like War Memorial, Hospital, schools - NOT a real representation of our beloved City !!!

So true way expensive
I haven't been there in yrs. Grew up in the 80s. Up in rancho Cordova, so homesick for the Bay area life.
Welcome to San Francisco’s unknown southern brother
You showed Daly City at its sunniest even though it’s foggy 90% of the time 😂
Real talk!
well until noon usually-- then it burns off
I remember a warm, sunny day there once back in 1981.

My grammaw called Daly City house’s cracker boxes. I can’t not move far from the ocean being raised in this area and I love cold moist foggy weather
5:37 Henry Doelger’s house-the man who built Westlake in the 1950’s. That house was on my paper route.

Best of luck to you....
Daly City is known as having air conditioned weather. Never too hot.
No it’s really hot there sometimes do you even live in Daily City? Because the people who lives there will know that it’s hot there.
@@stefanynicole138 Yes I lived in Daly City and know the weather. Obviously you didn’t ‘cause you can’t spell Daly.

It can get hot during summer but it’s mostly foggy that’s why they call it fog town. Best memories of the fog spilling over the hill
Not sure how you got to Daly City driving north across the Golden Gate Bridge
You drove by my elementary school at the 5 minute mark where I went from 1969 to 1973

Only houses and cars..where are the people.? I can no person on any side of the road
yes, people here are always busy working so you can't see anybody outside. That's the sad reality even our neighbor's name we don't know.
