  • Killing Eve's ending was incredibly disappointing - so obviously the only reasonable response was to make a video essay about all the issues I had with it.
I love this show - the first two seasons at least - and I think it's an interesting case study in how a show can go from being incredible to awful in the space of just a couple of series.

"Season 4 wasn't just bad right at the end , it was bad at the whole time" you're absolutely right , season 4 was simply awful , everything was bad as the end , i totally agree that the last scene of season 2 with Villanelle and Eve together was the best of the whole sereis , basically showed what Killing Eve was made for , it was even better to show how Villanelle indeed had feelings for Eve and all she wanted was to live with her forever , good video 😊

I loved the first two seasons of this show but it quickly became so incoherent and inconsistent that I struggled to understand the actual conflict. Because nothing made sense. The 12 were built up to be this big bad organization that would kill anyone that threatened them. But after season 2 they became as threatening as a hummingbird. Why couldn’t they just kill Villanelle? They obviously didn’t approve of her actions so why not just kill her? Also I hate this new trend that every villain needs a tragic backstory. What I loved most about Villanelle was that she seemed okay with killing strangers because she was making a lot of money, she was able to live in Paris, and travel the world. That’s it. Villanelle loved the lavish lifestyle that being an assassin afforded her, so she didn’t have any moral conflict with killing people, it was just a job to her…in my opinion. I wish the writers would’ve stuck with that because that would’ve made her relationship with Eve more complicated & interesting because Eve wants to protect human life but she is also attracted to Villanelle that sees life or death as a job. But no we had to give Villanelle this “internal darkness” storyline that went no where.

That petition was so funny - it was the first bit of reaction to the finale I saw, and I genuinely laughed out loud at it 😆

For your thoughtful & detailed analysis on the rise and fall of Killing Eve which left alot to unpack, I salute you. For all the 3rd seasons faults, it did well in humanising the Villanelle character (some might say to a fault) and treating her life as an assassin like a gilded cage using the faux promotion as a means of revealing the bars. Lack of Eve in that season was the biggest complaint. The 4th season and the writing for it can be summed up in this quote..
"Enough perfume and you can make a turd smell like a rose but underneath, it's still a piece of shit" Black Lagoon
And that's no criticism of the actors involved who did the best they could with the poor material they were given.

Laura neal seems so homophobic like what is "rebirth" or " unromantic kiss " like ik it was gross n all bcuz of the pee scene but they were still kissing with love and passion and longing for that moment

By season 4 I didn't even want Eve and Villainelle to get together. I didn't find their romance even a little bit believable by then. Eve was just a totally unlikeable character and I felt there was no reason for Villainelle to actually still be interested in her. Eve should've died.

I like season three a lot not as good as season one and two. I only liked season four because of vil and ignoring the ending but season four is cruel and horrible still even with me only liking it because of Jodie.

Let me put it this way. Book Villanelle ain't nothing like the TV version. She's less of a big kid at heart and is 100% pure psychopath. She's all murder, money and decadence. She's all about power rather than respect.

One weird thing is that in book 3 (Die for Me) there is a scene where V and E fall into the water and V is carried away by strong currents for good, only it turns out to be a nightmare from which Eve awakes in horror. And in the book Eve is re-born as well, lifted from the stupor of her agonizing grief when, assisted by Anna (who never died in the books), she surprisingly was re-united with Villanelle in a really sweet scene. MUCH better! Maybe the final scene in the series also was just a bad dream? Or Villanelles death, as in the books, was an elaborate deception? It would even have been okay to just end the show with the two of them hugging on the deck of the boat. Sigh.
Oh -- and on that "unromantic kiss" -- What? Oh come on! WHAT???
Yet one more comment: despite all the criticism and the imho abyssmal last minute, after Killing Eve most other things I started watching or reading seemed to be somewhat flat and conventional. So -- it still is pretty amazing and outstanding.

Why would you want it to end with them riding off into the sunset? What kind of relationship would Eve have with a sadist psychopath? That would be a twisted relationship. Not to mention that Villanelle wasn't just an assassin, she killed anyone that so much as offended her. Without the protection of the 12 she would have ended up in prison before too long.
The ending of season 2 worked. Watching Eve have the wake up and standing up to her. I was telling my daughter she is crazy, never say that to a psychopath, play along and quietly run away. And Villanelle shot her because she wasn't in love or cared about Eve, she only loved the attention and control she had over Eve. When she thought she had lost that Eve was nothing to her.
