I interpret the MV so that the cubes are Haters and IU and V run away from them with their scars. Then they find the magic camera and they see them how they want to be perfect without scars in the idol industry. They get famose, have fun, sing on the stage, belive that it is reality. Until the Haters appear again. They try to defend themselves but it is hopeless. The Haters get more angry and lift them away from the camera/idol business/fame. And they life ends like the idols and actors in the last years. Only the clothes remain.

Such a beautiful and emotional video featuring amazing acting and vocals that makes the experience so personal. I really do hope that Tae & IU do other projects together both film and music as they have great chemistry and when he was on her show their voices also blended so well. Also at the end it was pointed out by someone that he can hear what is coming but she can't, while she can see what is coming but she covers his good eye so he can't. Both cry at the same moment though and from the same left eye. Also the right side of his face seems to have burn scars so maybe he had encountered a cube before but got away at the last minute. This cube was relentless in its pursuit and even seemed to change size so it could come into the building. Earlier when it was flying overhead you could tell no way it could fit inside those hallways. I also noticed the cube waits for them to stop fighting and accept their fate. If you notice there are no other people so obviously no person is able to meet the criteria this cube holds that would allow someone to survive. The camcorder that kept showing a better reality, was giving us the viewer a happier version of the events. They both rise in the air together, their bodies still solid, while the reality is that they have been turned to ash. At the top of the camcorder right before it turns off you see ash particles in the air. I also loved how the clothes landed together on the pile. Again all of this symbolizing that even though they seemingly lost to the cube, it couldn't destroy their love for each other. They stayed together in life and death, so indeed their love did win. I can't get enough of this MV, the acting is Oscar level and combined with the award worthy vocals and lyrics it's both heartbreaking but also heartwarming that at least they went together.

MV is a dystopian view of our society. While trying to hide in this abandoned place filled with the clothes of people who died due to this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to create an illusion of what their lives might be like if they were "normal" by society's standards. It starts with their appearance, they can see what they will look like, then what they will eat, then they start to feel the illusion a little too much, to the point where they dream very well that IU can sing and V can sing too, and they can listen to her voice, marry each other, just have fun and do whatever they want They could eat because they didn't have to deal with society or any kind of pressure. However, when they try to relax a little and live their lives, the Cube (society) finds them again and pushes them to retreat and run away again, but the Cube manages to find them again and they try to survive against them. I've watched so many reactions of this mv and a stray comment made me look at it completely different. The apocalyptic world is the real world, society eating up idols, consuming their lives. She is deaf to the voices of her critics, (or mute: unable to speak out against this consumption) and he's blind to everyone but her. Though they desperately cling to one another they can't live in peace. They look through the lens of their video recorder and see only themselves and their love in this world. The mocking people trying to disrupt them and tear them apart are the critics, and in some cases, extreme fans. In the end, they're unable to stay in this idealized version of their life, their love persecuted and their life is once again consumed by the expectations of fans on idols.

I've watched so many reactions of this mv and a stray comment made me look at it completely different. The apocalyptic world is the real world, society eating up idols, consuming their lives. She is deaf to the voices of her critics, (or mute: unable to speak out against this consumption) and he's blind to everyone but her. Though they desperately cling to one another they can't live in peace. They look through the lens of their video recorder and see only themselves and their love in this world. The mocking people trying to disrupt them and tear them apart are the critics, and in some cases, extreme fans. In the end, they're unable to stay in this idealized version of their life, their love persecuted and their life is once again consumed by the expectations of fans on idols.

This has by far been the most amazing MV I have seen ever. period. The acting is phenomenal, IU's voice and features in this MV is phenomenal, V was absolutely phenomenal, like what isn't?! Nearly cried my eyes out like holy fuck never knew an MV can give so much emotions like a 3 season K-Drama. IU covering V's not blind eye so he can be comforted and safe in the arms of only IU is best attention to detail and just magnificent.
From what IU had said so far about her new comeback, there might be more MV with V in the future.
As for this MV, some ARMYs guessed that she is deaf (explaining her using Korean sign language) and that Very had an accident that cause his right eye to be blind. They are living in a world where if one is not the 'perfect standards', they are 'taken out of the world'.

My interpretation: Beautiful story, it was not a just a beautiful song. IU and V are imperfect people according to the world. But through another lens, they see each other as perfect. In the real world, they may not have much, but they love each other and commit to each other by getting married. But the world intrudes on them and gets rid of their love, because their love should not be. It gets rid of them. We see that the world has done that before to others love that was deemed not worthy. Their stories is like other love that has come before theirs, disintegrated because they were perceived as imperfect by the world. The real world is broken.
The Cube represents society, it is chasing every individual who doesn’t fit the standards of society . Here V is half blind, IU is deaf and mute. So they are running from oppression of society. The world is controlled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in south korea put masks on when they don’t have make up or when they feel unsecure or they wear hats when their hair is messy. The MV is a dysopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abandoned place filled with the clothes of people who died because of this oppression. They find the camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were “normal “ by society standards it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like , then what they would eat, then they start to feel the illusion a bit too much to the point they beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice , they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn’t have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of comfort and try to live their life , the cube (society) finds them again and push them to retreat and flee again, but the cube managed to find them again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it as hard as they can but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up but at least they stayed together until the end. Even if they died at the end, they loved each other deeply.
