My husband fell in the bathroom using the first walker there. He was close to the sink and reached to turn on the water while balancing against the left handle of the walker to wash his hand and the whole walker tipped over sideways.
Had to call 911 to get him off the floor. Praise God he wasn’t too badly hurt.

I have had 3 knee surgeries over the years. The last one was a knee replacement. I used the walker with 4 wheels and a seat. I walked tall and straight. Because of former knee surgeries I only needed 2 therapy sessions. If your smart, take your pain pills, 1/2 hour later all exercises, 4 hour later pain pills and again 1/2 hour all exercises. I did this all day long. I loved the walker and the independence it gave me to carry anything I needed to.

I love my 4 wheel walker. What you did not mention, is with the other walkers you cannot even carry a cup of tea to the table without a shelf. I can put a whole dinner on the seat of my walker and get it to the table. I do keep the brakes on, though, so it does not go too fast on its own. I am 72 years old and have MS with bad balance as well as weakness in my lower half, and this walker is a great asset for me.

THAT is the answer I was looking for. I need the walker for load bearing, but the ghastly noise in doctors offices, and the wear from asphalt makes it difficult to.
I was just going to jockey the brakes and replace them often, but leaving them on sounds like a good idea for load bearing. Thanks!

Spinal stenosis ...what a huge difference from the 2 wheel to the "rollator walker" with 4 wheels! I just got mine delivered and I wish someone would have thought about getting this kind 2 years ago! Only problem is I have alot of stairs but I'm so happy about this new tool. Takes that pressure off my back, the back bar hits me just right. Sitting in this is better than any other chair in my house!

I can tell you for sure that the four wheel walker is the very best. I was paralyzed earlier this year and when in therapy I had to use that 2 wheel POS walker. When I got out of the hospital I got the four wheel walker and it was like heaven. So much easier to use.

I had a walker with a seat and it folded inside, both sides. It was easy to use and carry up and down stairs. I now have a rollator which is hard to put and remove from my back seat in the car.

I use a rollator plus a cane to help me balance due to fibromyalgia. A rollator helps me walk longer distances, since my cane gets tiring. I have balance issues, but can bear weight on my legs. My mom is recovering from a tibial plateau fracture and has the two-wheeled walker from the hospital. She still needs her wheelchair, but I'm helping her use a walker. She isn't a candidate for my rollator because it rolls too easily and isn't meant for weight bearing. It's important to regularly check the sturdiness of a walker and never lean if sitting on a rollator. I learned the hard way for my rollator tipping.

I have a two wheel walker and a four wheeled walker because of idiopathic peripheral neuropathy which has affected my legs in balance. My two wheeled walker is different from the traditional hospital ones. It looks a little bit like a rollator but it can fold up like an umbrella stroller. It only weighs 7 pounds so I can lift it when I embark a bus. I mainly use it when I go to work in my small office, or occasionally around my house when my legs are feeling really weak.
My rollator is one of those newly innovative walker and transport chairs in one. I just ordered it a couple days ago. It would come in handy for taking outdoor walks, or if I go on an outdoor adventure and have a seat available for resting… And hopefully a friend to push me if I’m too tired to walk.

2023 August 18...... This information was helpful, because I'm looking for the best walker for my husband's use. I like the idea of possibly using furniture leg caps instead of tennis balls, but I guess the person needs to give both a try to see what works best for them.

I was told that there are alot of accidents with people who use the stand up walkers where you rest your forarms . THERE has been an increaze of people falling backwards because those new walkers even with the bakes on will roll forward causing people to fall back with a 100lb walker on top of them so be careful. Didn't want any additional issues with my girlfriend knee surgery so wr just wrnt with a standard folding walkers.

  • @jenlfpotter3870

I've had chronic, Lymphoedema for around 5 years now. Its really starting to take its toll on my knees joints and ankles, so if I walk or even sit anywhere for any length of time, my knees and ankles seize up, go very stiff, I get incredibly sharp pain where my left ankle's swollen and moving far too much. I'm also vision impaired and use a white stick or cain in my right hand to feel my way round, so I've put off buying a rollator for about as long as I could, before buying a very compact, Ezy fold walker. This will hopefully be a game changer for me long term, since using one kind of cane in one hand plus a tripod or quad cane in the other hand won't really work out for me either, since I have to lift one up and down and push the other side to side along whatever surface I'm walking on, whether its tarmac, paving slabs, grass, dirt trails when I walk my dog. I also have to take the sizes of carers' cars into consideration, because a lot of them are quite small and compact, almost smart cars with only two doors although, two of the carers I'm seeing at the moment are upgrading their cars. An umbrella folding walker can be stowed in a back seat foot well if not in a small boot. I found my walker on Ebay in very good condition, second hand, quite lightly used. I'm impressed with how quiet it moves, the size of the wheels, 8 inches and the reflecters on the swivel front wheels. Only thing is, the back rest and seat. The seat is part of the unit and unfolds or folds with the unit, so it doesn't flip up out of the way. Other than that though, very smooth, very nice.

Thanks for the information. It's been a few years since you posted this video, but I'm in the situation Bob mentioned - my mother needs a walker, but she's still driving herself around, and she needs one that she can lift and load herself, as well as unload. She would use it for church and walking her small dog. There is so much information available, and I simply don't have the time to sift through it all. I'm interested in learning which walker Bob chose for his mother, and has he upgraded or is there a newer one that he'd recommend now? Thanks.

For active drivers needing this kind of support I recommend a superlight aluminum rollator, around 11 lbs. Beyond that, cost skyrockets for diminushing weight savings. Of course nothing beats a lightweight cane for ease of transportation, assuming it offers adequate stability. Until custom carbon fiber "gigalight" rollators are a thing, car-transportable walkers are about as light as tgey're going to get

I have the 4 wheel one. Do not sit on it and lean back on that back rest. I broke it and it can't be fixed because the connectors are made of plastic. I am not a big woman either. In fact, I am 5 ft tall and the seat is too high for me. You can see in this video, it is higher than a regular chair and not adjustable. And, hell no, I can't get it in my car. I'm looking for something made for adolescents. That may fit me better.

I have a rollator and have used it for a few years. I love it because it has a seat. If I have to go someplace like Hobby Lobby I take it. Then I can use it for balance, for carrying my purchases in the basket, for sitting down while I am looking at things on low shelves, and for sitting while waiting in line. The one negative I have found with it is that it doesn't work well in gravel. I got mine with the biggest wheels for around $130 at a medical supply place. It was cheaper to buy it off insurance then using my insurance. If any one hoes to buy one ask about the price with and without using your insurrance. I used mine at a craft festival this past weekend. My mom and I hit ready to leave. It worked great on the grass, but when we got to the gravel it wouldn't roll with the weight of our purchases. So I stayed put and mom walked back and forth carrying our purchases between me and the car. One question...I have seen people with 3 wheeled walkers. They don't have a seat. Do you know anything about those? BTW I LOVE my rollator. I also saw many people at the craft fair with them. It was an outdoor fair. Great video!

I also own a rollator. The only inconvenience is that it's hard to fit in a vehicle at times. However, the 3 wheeled walkers make sharper turns and are perfect for narrow hallways, especially in apartments. They are also lighter and more portable than the 4 wheelers.

Rethink your walkers with wheels ... 6ft 210lb center of gravity top heavy ...set the two same model walkers side by side ...... take off the tennis balls to be realistic hospitals often don’t spend extra money ... besides ... modifications to medical equip should not be nor are advised... (I already understand the arguments for ) After full knee replacement my hospital would not let me use my walker -same make as there’s but different end caps ...mine from VA came with softer rubber on all four posts and a set of wheels for add on later .... the hospital walker exactly set up like your no tennis ball on back... hard plast end caps on back hard plastic wheels up front ...slides with ease across floor pushing with just a finger it’s so slick specially on hospital floors ...
Now ... follow me exactly on this ..... set two walkers side by side like you could approach either of your choosing but stand back...you should notice a pyramid shape to the legs on the walker with four same soft rubber caps....hand grips level to the floor......look across to other walker ...check out the run of the legs to the first..don’t line up do they.....adding the wheels brings the front of the walker up about inch and half to two inches......the back legs are probable straight up and down ....the hand grips are no longer parallel to to ground but are now titling backwards....I was made to use this walker told to put my weight straight up and down on the back ward leaning tower ...and collapsed like an accordion buckled freshly replaced knee right under me with massive tremendous pain...it’s unsafe ...my pt finally made them let me use my more stable walker.. because only some patients but most certainly the hospitals and docs want you to hurry hurry hurry...it’s our policy everyone does it ..one size fits all stupid herd mentality is bull crap and I’ve enjoyed some of your videos with respect to professionalism and insight....walkers aren’t made for speed demons nor should people be expected to be in most cases specially after full joint replacement I understand hips are different...there’s black skid marks from the back legs of that walker and some crazy outlandish stories no one wants blame but passes the buck...and well we’ve always done it like this means we never have to change right,,.? The soft tips should be as strength and control increase be gradually replace with front wheels ....with more speed your momentum is moving forward anyhow so a posture such as the one is ok but no way to stop it if need be
