- In this lesson, I spent 3 sessions of 20 minutes each using a technique to memorize the words and chords of even the most complicated songs, to prove that you can play a song from memory after only 1 hour of practice time.

So true! Having at least 10 songs that you can play beginning to end is so useful. Great video!
Thank you for making this video, I also have the same struggle with memorizing chords I truly relate to it.
thank you for your advice, i am looking forward to trying 💯
Awesome! I've wondered about this a long time, will give this technique a try. Thank you!
You're welcome Andy. Hope it helps!
Thank you so much for all this. I have copied it all down and going to practice this. Great tips. Thanks again xx😊
You are so welcome! Hope it helps

Oh Jonathan,
That is SO GREAT! What a cool idea and I love, Love, LOVE the way you play and sing! AWESOME! Thank you so much! Excellent
You're welcome, glad you like it
Nice video! Absolutely gorgeous voice ! God bless you sir 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much!
Thanks for this..i will certainly try it.
you're welcome!
This is excellent! I have been an actor for a long time and early on I struggled with memorization. Slightly different but very similar techniques (patterns! It’s all about patterns!) came to me over the years and I can now learn lines quicker and more thoroughly. I had been hoping to find something like that to help with music and here it is. Thank you for sharing this!
You're welcome, glad you liked it!
Well done. Our brains are wired to remember images. Drawing them reinforces those connections. Thanks.
you're welcome!
Thank you for this video! I'll be implementing these tips on my prcatice starting from now cause i have to perform in front of my class in 3 weeks!
Awesome! I hope it helps you out
Thank you! Beautiful voice :)
you're welcome, and thanks!
neat, i cant remember 1 song in ten years. brain injury. i cant remember melodies, rhythms, lyrics, chord progressions. i could read music and play piano at 6, injury at 8. now 60. be thankful you can play. the desire and love of music is still there but no ability.
good tips thanks God bless you
you're welcome!
This was fun to watch. I've got to see your boards for "Loser" by Beck, though. And then "Mr. Jones" by Counting Crows. And then "One Week" by Barenaked Ladies.
I will try this I have been thinking that I am tied too much to the sheets. I have a few I think that I can do this with. May be not more than 5 chords at first.
Thanks Johnathon
Great, Mary Ann. I hope it works for you!
I really liked this video. It address an important need. I have a song book of about 300 songs with lyrics and chords. I can play only one or two from memory. Thank you.
you're welcome!
Have you used this technique to memorize all 300 songs?
good job. sounds authentic
thanks!
Hi Jonathan I lost my wife of 58 years to Parkinsons 2 months ago and this song touched me deep inside I will try your method have a great day Alfred Sibbons@@SimplifiedGuitar
this is an interesting method! definitely will try it :)
hope it works for you, Danny!
@@SimplifiedGuitar thanks! I have a question though, do you draw for every sentence of the song like in the video? because some songs have too many words, and it'll be so many pages of drawing XD
Piano songs played on guitar often makes some interesting chords.
WOW Coach Jonathan, this is AWESOME!!! One of my reasons for playing an Instrument🎸🎸🎸 is for the Cognitive Benefits! ✅Will give this a try. I Believe it works. Thanks Coach!!!
I'm going to try this technique. I'm curious as to why you draw your pictures are drawn from down to up? Since I don't know how many pictures I will need for the verse or chorus, isn't it easier to start drawing from the top in columns? Also I'm trying to figure out the song with these chords. Are your chords written sequentially from top to bottom? Pictures are drawn bottom to top? Do you have more pictures and chord progressions available for more songs? I'm not much of an artist and it sure seems you have another gift! Thank you!
Hey Tilly! I knew beforehand that I was going to do 4 drawings per stanza, basically 1 drawing per line. Each drawing to help me memorize a line of the song. And there are 4 lines in each verse and 4 lines in the chorus. That is another step in the memorization process, knowing that structure of 4, 4, 4, 4. I drew them from on top of one another to help me visually remember them like a totem pole. But you can definitely do it left to right if that makes more sense for you.
This was insightful and I will try this-only problem is I can’t even draw a straight line so the artwork will be a challenge. Ha! Thanks!
No problem Susan, it can be stick figures. The act of creating it will help you remember.
I don't think I could even remember the pictures LOL.
Interesting not using a pick
