    I would add one priority to this, somewhere near the top (but maybe not number one): Soldiers popping banners. Keeping them alive is [usually] a boon to the entire team.

    • @Theory-Y
      @Theory-Y  2 роки тому +341

      Yeah I didn't really bring in many specific circumstances like that because they all pretty much fall under the golden rule of "healing the guy that will do the most with the heals." A banner soldier would get top priority because he's going to do the most. Should have mentioned that as a great example!

    • @jalontf2

      Yeah to your point, it still falls under the "is he going to beef it" test which _generally_ they don't, but every once in a while...

    I love playing medic, it sounds obvious but it's important to play like a doctor, you'll have to decide who lives and who dies, you treat players like patients. It such a fascinating class to play. You want to save them all, and good medics will keep most alive, but you just can't save them all.

    One subtle thing i noticed is that this emphasis on crit healing is supported by his confidence that he can save any low health player with a crossbow
    Notice how in the first barnblitz clip starting in 9:50 whenever he has to choose between a low health player and crit heals he beams the crit heal and crossbows the low health player
    The crit heal priority comes with the assumption that you can hit most of your crossbow shots otherwise you may end up with a lot more teammates

    • @Yatsuzume
      @Yatsuzume 2 роки тому +8

      Hitting close range arrows like those is not that difficult. Just try to use the crossbow healing techniques and even though you might mess up a lot at the start, it usually won't take long until you're hitting your teammates often enough to get some confidence that you can save them with your arrows instead.

      In theory your teammates defend and help you to survive in exchange of you doing the same to them.

    For me heal priority is generally whoever's
    1. Doing the most damage.
    2.The most hurt.
    3. Can be healed up the fastest.(if you put yourself somewhere safe, in my line of sight and stay still for a few seconds I will definitely stop swap and drop an arrow on you.)(or make a point of prepping yourself for crit heals)
    4. Anyone actively protecting myself or other medics.
    5. Has the most health to replenish.
    6. Freshy from spawn needing a buff to go in.
    7. Support classes not immediately in the fight(engy and especially sniper may not be any active combat but you never know when an overheal might save them from a spy or enemy quickscoper.)

      I think Uncle Dane actually covered that last one in his video called "You and your Engineer" or whatever. An overhealed Engineer or Sniper can survive a lot more punishment that they wouldn't otherwise, and if there's nobody else in the area, just... throw your beam on them for a few seconds while you're restocking at the Dispenser or near your Spawn.

    • @GlitchKnight113
      @GlitchKnight113 5 місяців тому

      I would move 6 up a LOT, going into a fight with a buff is borderline busted, especially considering that newly spawned players have crit heals automaticly Having 1.5x normal health is AMAZING, whether it's a 300 soldier bombing the other med or a 185 scout wreaking HAVOC on the enemy teams flanks, even a 280 pyro stuffing an Uber, or overextending into a med pick, going into a fight with more health than the opponent, with the same offensive capabilities is INSANE

  • @-Ripica-

    Man these mechanics really shows how complex and different TF2 really is compared to its competitors (class based shooters).
    While its competitors got a diverse cast and interesting abilities/mechanics, TF2 is simple in the surface but has mechanics (or "bugs") that is difficult to master and rewards player skill or creativity. I mean, you got pogo jumping, overload jumping, trimping, sentry jumping, reflect/airblast jumping, flare jumping, knockback surfing, trickstabs, juggling, crit heals, self damage tricks, etc.
    This is why TF2 is still going strong. All these hidden stuff are beneath the surface but once a player learns these, they can improve their gameplay beyond. Other games are more like, matchups and skill timing. That's not to say they aren't skillful or fun, just saying that TF2 is a bit more complex beneath the surface.

    • @tippyc2
      @tippyc2 2 роки тому +9

      Another part of what makes it great is that you dont really need any of those complex mechanics to finish in the top half of a casual server. Basic FPS skills and a stock scattergun are all you really need.

    Now, i usually play on shounics 100 player server (because as a f2p, i can't communicate outside of community servers), where the best weapons are diffrent, with the best medic melee actually being the amputator, due to the taunt heal having no target limit, and the best pyro primary being the phlog, due to easy mmph buildup, and the crits. So my priority list is a bit different:
    1. People who have called for medic, and the medic callout is red.
    2. People who have been marked as low health.
    3. Phlog pyro with crits ready, but only if i have Uber ready.
    4. People calling for a medic in general.
    5. Scouts during rollout. (So i can get thier speed and roll out myself faster

    As a heavy main i want to second the point: "ignore the heavy". I play heavy like the medics don't even exist. If I need heals I'm gonna make the decision to keep spraying bullets till i die or to duck around a corner and eat a sandvich real quick. Sure, put the beam on me when im tanking the choke point, but it really grinds my gears when medics just stand there and keep the beam on while i eat the sandvich.
    Also, my slow movement means I'm not a good choice to uber. Usually, your uber is better spent on a pyro or demo who can get into the shit before the uber runs out. Or on defense, spend it on a pyro who can airblast an incoming uber.

    • @vyor8837
      @vyor8837 2 роки тому

      Heavy is a good choice to uber on the point or if there's a sentry and you lack a demo or soldier to take it out at a critical moment.
      Otherwise ya, forcing a heavy to take out the GRU just to have the uber run out when they arrive is... Sub-optimal.

    The mindset of healing classes in games being subservient to fighting archetypes never clicked with me, and in fact almost seems backwards.

    3:46 I would like to preface that this also sometimes require some gamesense. I have times where I was left to die because I'm "just some unimportant scout main"(yeah keep ignoring the scoreboard) and I'm healed to like 50 before they return to their pocket. What happens is I sometimes end up dying, whether it be some flanker that catches me while I'm roaming for a medkit or a stray shot or some sniper with a grudge against me hits.
    Conversely, I've seen time and time again where I heal someone to ~about 60 or so~ and while I'm healing them, they get hit by something and end up really low, likely dying if I had left them by themselves past "what is necessary".

    While crit heals are great and you should totally sneak them in there whenever you can, I feel like this guide might be placing a bit too much value in them.
    While having one player go into a fight with plenty of health can be good, they might not last very long if they go in alone and get focused down by many enemies.
    I often find it more valuable to get teammates at about full health to get more people back into the fight sooner and keep the pressure up. With more people figthing you have more overall firepower available, which makes it more likely that your team will get some picks and back each other up, which then eases pressure on you.
    Obviously if you can achieve the above while capitalizing on crit heals, then that's even better, but I'm not sure if they are SO GOOD so as to always leave several teammates hurting for a long time- momentum is a thing, you know! But I guess it's just further proof that there's always exceptions to the rule, SPECIALLY for medic.

      @@Carryopsis If crit heals are readily available, then healing a hurt teammate way faster great. What I meant is that it's probably a bad idea to leave many wounded teammates sitting out of the action JUST because you want to build up crit heals. This is specially true if you're not completely out of danger and your teammates keep getting hit by stray projectiles. Hell, most of them don't even bother much to avoid damage- do people not even know crit heals are a thing...?
