Sends chills down my spine. I know he must have suffered terribly at the thought of seeing so many innocent people killed.
Do you know what war he was in? Vietnam was over with just after my graduation from HS and he was born at least 5 years after me. All I can come up with is Grenada. Maybe Cambodia.

When I first saw this poem on Little Eagle's wall, I was stunned. And I assumed L.E. was born the same year as I was: 1951. I was surprised to find out that he was ten years my junior.
It could be any war at all because L.E. did not write it as a veteran's testimony. He positioned himself as a writer and wrote it all out of empathy. Maybe he has known some Vietnam veterans but he doesn't say. He's achieved a chilling piece of writing without having been personally involved in it. The result is nonetheless impressive, I find. I thought of Vietnam, personally, when reading it. Out of empathy too. I was just the age to be drafted and sent there if I had been unlucky enough to be born an American.
