Do a video on the vitals monitor, and the different alarms and beeps you hear.. Would be very interesting to find out what all the different noises are!
Very informative for a new surg tech like me! Thank you! Yes! Custom packs are life savers!
Oh yeah! I’m definitely going to keep this idea in mind for wherever I’m working when I finish school. Set up time takes up a lot of space in my head these days as we are learning more cases with much more stuff to set up.
I am not a surgeon but underwent aortic valve replacement two times in span of 30 years. It is really complex process. When patient is in heart lungs machine time is very critical. This kit will reduce unwanted time loss really a necessity.
Could you do a video on the heart instrument trays?
Totally.
Can you do a heart assembly tray
RN being trained to scrub for CV and CT/ Transplant cases , and really enjoy your video's , this one especially. Could you do one for a heart case set of instruments ?
The Custom Packs are awesome and timesaving as well
Please do a video on Brain custom packs
He really truly earns his paycheck. He does such an excellent job!! Keep up the good work
Once the surgical team opens a custom pack, what happens to all the items that have not been consumed at the end of the case?
Depends on the item, most items can't be resterilized so we would either throw them away, if they aren't dirty give them to students to practice with, keep them ourselves (Free napkins) or keep them in the OR (Non sterile clean gauze can still be used to clean with)
Great insight.
it's great to know you have salted peanuts in the 2nd little bag snacks keep you sharp!..no? never mind. I like this channel I found it by researching upcoming surgeries I am having a DBS for tremors and lumbar stenosis and herniated discs surgery although it does freak me out that people other than surgeons and interns could be cutting and stitching on me?
can you do setting up for heart surgery for a video
Should look into getting a Cv Incise Drape. Has clear steri-drapes built into it and you wouldn't have to use seperate drapes, just one and no iobans. We use it and love it.
Sounds cool.
yea, check it out. get some samples or something.
Very helpful man. Thanks.
Can you do a video of all the equipment in the OR? Please.
@Surgical tech tips can you please make a video about organ transplant surgery
Thank you
So is that pen for example just used once for the surgery and then thrown away?
Thrown away.
Excellent job!!
Awesome and fascinating!
from Egypt you are awesome
Cute
After you've opened a set for these videos and can't put items back into supply, what do you do with them? Are they tossed/thrown in wash or used elsewhere as teaching or demo supplies...or taken home?
A heart lung machine video would be great
Like this one? ua-cam.com/video/RmwMzw_YTNU/v-deo.html
its heart and soul like rock and roll in cleveland i was going to say ienclave
Can you make a video on how to load pledgets onto the prolenes? I’ve only ever heard of pledgets being loaded onto the suture thread but I’ve never seen how it’s done.
I can shoot a little vid of it.
This is so true..
Why do doctor's need soo many towels and knife/blades? Not in the medical field... I've had surgery before.
I like watching your videos cause its get me movtivate I got one question for you cause all the the videos I watch I see you have a certain surgical cap on all the time in the or can you buy your own surgical cap or no
at my hospital we are only allowed to wear disposable caps.
Yes! I love these videos!
Some good vids to come ^_-
Are the sutures opened then resterilized in the custom pack? Doesn’t it (resterilization) affect the integrity of the sutures?
I work on making these custom packs, and we don't open them - they remain in the packaging. If items are sterile when they come to us, they remain in the packaging. We use gamma to sterilize our packs, but this doesn't happen at our facility - I don't know the effects this has on previously sterilized items, I just figured I wanted to use my specialisation for once lol
Sir good morning
Hi Shane still enjoying all your videos. Quick question for you: Interested in Transplant ( if i can get into school) so my question is since transplants do not happen often does the surgical tech just do general cases? I would assume they also have to be on call just in case. Watching this makes me a little more interested in cardiac, plus my daughter has a heart condition. I am a little bit knowledgeable about the heart. Thank you
If you are on a specialized team of sorts and do not have cases, you will be utilized in the general OR.
I know nothing...does a cancelled case pack like this get totally thrown away because no longer sterile for surgery, or can some items be used in general procedures, for example?
Tossed, or donated school or to a group going on a surgical mission.
@Surgicaltechtips awesome vid Shane, quick question though, in surgery in the unfortunate event that the patient goes into cardiac arrest, what is your role specifically as a CST/FA I know the Dr. Would be In charge of running the code and the nurses administering meds and CPR but what is your role or if you have one? Thanks again for the awesome content! #Dayonesubfromsouthflorida
As a CST at the surgical field, I have always been the one administering CPR, and switching out between myself, the surgeon, or surgical assistant. The circulators are usually helping anesthesia, or standing by on the defibrillator machine.
when you do these demos, does this stuff get repacked and sterilized, or is it just trash?
Donate to a local Tech school
@@SurgicalTechTips awwwwhhhhhh
Your name Dr ?
If it's your first time in operating Theatre it's good to be nervous or not
totally normal
Hello! How long does it take to set up a heart open case? Would you be able to do a video of an open heart set up in the future?
45min-1hr depending on the case. Quicker if i'm being rushed (emergency)
@@SurgicalTechTips yes please make a video of a open heart set up if you could in the future
Shane
What do you do with the supplies in the packs once they are opened and used in your videos
Donate to a local school, or put it in the trunk of my car for future video use.
@@SurgicalTechTips So is everything actually disposable?
Why do you wear Compression Stockings in the OR?
To prevent DVT's. Sometimes surgical procedures can take quite a while, and when standing in one place the entire time...
ok.
Another question is, I am interested in being an ER doctor and I need to know what to study in high school.
Hey! I love your videos and I watch them all the time. I'm curently on my clinicals and I have a question... how do you deal with a asshole doctor? :( like he would legit cuss at everyone in the OR and throw shit on the floor... thank you :)
Reporting them is about the only thing we can do. Most hospitals have an anonymous tip line for that stuff, or talk with a charge nurse/ director directly.

Sir Tok me
Say utilize one more time and I'll shoot myself in the leg. Great video though
I get to ramblin'
Flippant attitude. Explains nothing about what the various components are used for. I wouldn’t even trust him to wash dishes in a diner ..
