    Oh yeah! I’m definitely going to keep this idea in mind for wherever I’m working when I finish school. Set up time takes up a lot of space in my head these days as we are learning more cases with much more stuff to set up.

    I am not a surgeon but underwent aortic valve replacement two times in span of 30 years. It is really complex process. When patient is in heart lungs machine time is very critical. This kit will reduce unwanted time loss really a necessity.

    Once the surgical team opens a custom pack, what happens to all the items that have not been consumed at the end of the case?

    • @jakobbril8081
      @jakobbril8081 2 роки тому +1

      Depends on the item, most items can't be resterilized so we would either throw them away, if they aren't dirty give them to students to practice with, keep them ourselves (Free napkins) or keep them in the OR (Non sterile clean gauze can still be used to clean with)

    it's great to know you have salted peanuts in the 2nd little bag snacks keep you sharp!..no? never mind. I like this channel I found it by researching upcoming surgeries I am having a DBS for tremors and lumbar stenosis and herniated discs surgery although it does freak me out that people other than surgeons and interns could be cutting and stitching on me?

    Should look into getting a Cv Incise Drape. Has clear steri-drapes built into it and you wouldn't have to use seperate drapes, just one and no iobans. We use it and love it.

    After you've opened a set for these videos and can't put items back into supply, what do you do with them? Are they tossed/thrown in wash or used elsewhere as teaching or demo supplies...or taken home?

    Are the sutures opened then resterilized in the custom pack? Doesn’t it (resterilization) affect the integrity of the sutures?

    • @erinasnow
      @erinasnow Рік тому

      I work on making these custom packs, and we don't open them - they remain in the packaging. If items are sterile when they come to us, they remain in the packaging. We use gamma to sterilize our packs, but this doesn't happen at our facility - I don't know the effects this has on previously sterilized items, I just figured I wanted to use my specialisation for once lol

    Hi Shane still enjoying all your videos. Quick question for you: Interested in Transplant ( if i can get into school) so my question is since transplants do not happen often does the surgical tech just do general cases? I would assume they also have to be on call just in case. Watching this makes me a little more interested in cardiac, plus my daughter has a heart condition. I am a little bit knowledgeable about the heart. Thank you

    • @SurgicalTechTips
      @SurgicalTechTips  6 років тому

      If you are on a specialized team of sorts and do not have cases, you will be utilized in the general OR.

  • @actorsnonactors

    I know nothing...does a cancelled case pack like this get totally thrown away because no longer sterile for surgery, or can some items be used in general procedures, for example?

    • @SurgicalTechTips

      Tossed, or donated school or to a group going on a surgical mission.

    @Surgicaltechtips awesome vid Shane, quick question though, in surgery in the unfortunate event that the patient goes into cardiac arrest, what is your role specifically as a CST/FA I know the Dr. Would be In charge of running the code and the nurses administering meds and CPR but what is your role or if you have one? Thanks again for the awesome content! #Dayonesubfromsouthflorida

    • @SurgicalTechTips
      @SurgicalTechTips  6 років тому +3

      As a CST at the surgical field, I have always been the one administering CPR, and switching out between myself, the surgeon, or surgical assistant. The circulators are usually helping anesthesia, or standing by on the defibrillator machine.
