This song really sums up what Avenged Sevenfold were originally about. It's amazing how progressive it is, because they were just teenagers back then. This song is somewhere between an '80s power ballad and a gritty '90s hardcore song, but more volatile. Everything that metalcore should be. It's the last track on Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, and encapsulates the full scope of the album. This era was special. Matt hadn't quite gotten his screams down like on Waking the Fallen, but he was distinctive and very recognizable even as someone fresh out of high school. Zacky played all of the guitar and developed the essence of Avenged Sevenfold's signature sound. Justin Sane played bass. Jimmy did his drumming in only one take across the entire album purely so he could say he recorded it in one take. The band was hungry and wanted to achieve everything, and this track shows more than any other how gifted they were at writing an epic from the beginning. This song is about reaching out to a friend who's going down a dark path of drug abuse. It's never been made clear who the friend is or was. Obviously, their parents weren't there for them and they didn't know what to do with their life. Matt just wanted to look out for this person and let them know they have a friend. It's a very passionate song. The thunderstorm was inspired by the Guns N' Roses song November Rain. A7X back then were very different from what they wanted to be even a year later. They loved NOFX, Pennywise, and probably also early Green Day. Punk music was in their blood, and they could have been one of the top bands in their local punk scene. Ultimately, it just isn't what they wanted. They came up with their stage names to make those other punks mad and decided they should have acoustic and piano tracks on their records because those bands would never do it and they wanted to be different. Then it spiraled into becoming technical wizards, of course. Enter Synyster Gates and Johnny Christ, the best musicians they could get. This song is generally my favorite on the 1st record. Most fans are only familiar with Warmness on the Soul for obvious reasons. Shattered by Broken Dreams is criminally underrated, to say the least. This is a real initiation to the album. There are punkier songs and heavier songs and more metallish songs, and I'm excited for the exploration. I think Darkness Surrounding, Streets, To End the Rapture (pre-Syn and post-Syn), and The Art of Subconscious Illusion will all be great listens down the road. Thank you for the input! It's nice to get some understanding about their earlier sounds and how they evolved. Once I've heard everything from them (studio), I'm going to listen to it all in order so I can see the evolution. But for now, it's kind of fun when I press play and get surprised. Lol

In the first album you clearly hear the bass react to second heartbeat demo version its from 2002 and you can hear bass but the original version you cant

Well if you like avenged you'll notice throughout many of their albums there's many same lyrics that connect each songs until Jimmy passing kinda like a shinty fucked up repeat the pain is real as I visited him in the past but Jimmy did a lot of writing shit sucks not in it bad it's fucked up he passed and was the circle but we loved him and we all have had to move forward

If there was another 5 minutes and they might have found another level. (That would be interesting). Can't find a single down side to this song. It's all there, the solos the timing, everything. More than just enjoyable.
