Liberty continues to look very good, and their chances of an undefeated regular season are looking better and better. WKU and MTSU are the main games on the schedule that I used to look at as the ones where they might not be favored, but those teams have lost a couple of games that they were initially expected to win and LU keeps on winning. WKU just lost to Troy and MTSU lost to Colorado St. UTEP hasn't looked as good as last year either- they just got clobbered by UNLV. You do have to take it one game at a time, and right now LU is 4-0 with a 90% chance of beating an 0-3 Sam Houston next week. I sort of thought they were still an FCS team, but they are in CUSA now and the transition isn't going well so far. I think we can pencil in a 5-0 start. Most likely. Then I look ahead to Jacksonville State, and LU very well could be unblemished at the midpoint of the season. It does get more difficult after that- I think of games 7, 8, and 9 as their most difficult stretch- but we will see if they can get there with a perfect record, and then we'll see if they can get through it. 6-0 looks pretty likely, and then I guess we'll see. It will be interesting to see where LU lands in the playoff picture if they do go undefeated with such a weak schedule.
If you still looked at LU as a FCS team then you haven’t been watching them the past 4 years. They have beaten teams like Baylor (at Baylor), Va Tech(at Tech), Syracuse (at Cuse), BYU, Arkansas (at Arkansas), and #10 undefeated Coastal Carolina. There were one loss away from an undefeated season (lost on the road to NC State by a last min 20yd FG block no less!) They have finished the season in the top 25 a couple of years ago and have spent a number of weeks in the rankings. Not to mention that we have put four guys in the NFL in that time span with the biggest names being Malik Willis (Titans) and Demario Douglas (Patriots). LU is no slouch!
@nickolaslewis4416 I'm super aware of what LU has been doing since coming up to the FBS level, initially as an independent. It didn't take them long to beat a Power 5 team, and then an SEC team, and play in a bowl game every year while winning some of them. This year's schedule is easier than in previous years, and LU may have a shot at an undefeated regular season. It seems like it looks better each week. The team that moved up more recently- and hasn't done well so far- is Sam Houston State University. I noticed their move-up to a lesser extent, but they are part of the C-USA survival package and that is the team that isn't doing well so far. LU plays them next.
Gotcha! Well, we’re going to see what happens in the future. The rest of the CUSA teams are really going to have to step it up if they want to have a chance at making the expanded CFP next year.
Jacksonville State has the best defense in the nation. Playing them on 5 days rest will be the most challenging game of the regular season for the Flames 🔥
The bad thing about college football is that it will be going to two major conferences Big 10 and SEC. The good thing about college football is transfer portal spreads the skills to lesser colleges athletically like LU and others
Agreed! Especially since they have proven that they can beat ACC, Big 12, and SEC schools. Missed opportunity for those conferences for sure. It’s obvious Liberty is in a completely different class than CUSA (with respect to athletics). The one gig against LU that kept them out of the more major conferences is their lack of prestige academically. It’s going to take some time for that reputation to build.
Liberty grad student here. An ex of mine goes to FIU, and this W really boosted my school spirit. God Bless & Go Flames!!!

Let’s go Panthers
Empty stadium
I noticed that too. Sad, especially considering that it was FIU's homecoming.
@@nickolaslewis4416. Liberty should have been in the Sunbelt or ACC Conference.
