    The layout is looking good. If you haven't come across it already there is a OO distillery layout set in the highlands called "Tellindalloch in autumn" that is worth a look and Braeside models do some really good modelling. The Hornby 48DS in Queen Ann livery might also be a good fit for the layout. It's very small but has very good traction and comes with a flatbed waggon that's looks great with barrels added.

      Hi William! Thank you so much for reaching out and watching 😊 I will definitely look up Tellindalloch in autumn” I would also LOVE to get a Queen Anne ruston, can’t find anything right now sadly, but will keep looking! Thanks again for popping by, Hylt

    Hi Hylton. Wow, your layout is looking fabulous. You HAVE to be proud of your work. The yard area is my favourite element. The ballast is very authentic-looking. Your selection of colours for your scenery has delivered a rare sense of life and energy.
    Is the curve behind the loco shed a 2nd radius or tighter? I ask because I have a very tight curve on the layout, and it does limit the type of trains I can run on it.
    Glad to see your Black 5 is still behaving itself.
    Not sure ASLEF would approve of a driver taking a call on their cell phone whilst at the controls!
    Excellent video.

    • @Proper_Chuffed
      @Proper_Chuffed  7 місяців тому +1

      Hello Stephen! Thank you for such kind words! I worry I haven’t quite captured the Highlands as I have them in my mind, but hopefully the scenic board will help that come to life.
      The curve is indeed a second radius, that specific one is actually Hornby set track, R605 I believe?
      So far so good on the Black 5 and praying it doesn’t drop the ball anytime soon or I’m screwed with getting a replacement!
      😂 we are a very chilled out bunch at Dunromin, and we certainly won’t be giving Gary a warning for being a good husband!
      Thank you again 🙏

    • @stephendavies6949
      @stephendavies6949 7 місяців тому +1

      @Proper_Chuffed Thanks for the reply. Although most modern stock can navigate 2nd radius curves, I find anything tighter than 3rd radius can cause some "visual awkwardness", so I tend not to run passenger or bogie wagon trains on anything less than 3rd radius. Having said that, 2nd - and even 1st - radius curves can add drama to an industrial scene, as this is how things were/are in real life: slow speed running on poorly maintained track with a soundtrack of constantly squeeling wheel flanges. Great stuff!

    • @Proper_Chuffed
      @Proper_Chuffed  7 місяців тому

      @@stephendavies6949 agreed! I would have preferred a wider radius, but really watching it in action, it’s not too bad, especially with the diesels, steam engines definitely look a LOT more awkward 😂how big is your layout Stephen? And do you run most of the engines from your rather vast collection every now and then?

    • @stephendavies6949
      @stephendavies6949 7 місяців тому

      @Proper_Chuffed I currently share a layout with a friend. It's about 19ft long and 6ft wide, all laid out "in front" of the operator (ie, I don't stand in the middle), with a section of "chicane" curves on the opposite side to the long straight. This means I can easily get a rake of 12 coaches plus a loco on the straight. There are 3 main running lines, with various other scenes.
      My friend is the main modeller, whilst I supply most of the locos and rolling stock. We both prefer steam locos, but the diesels do get a run now and again.
      We were running a variety last weekend, including my newest acquisions, which are a Bachmann class 37 (no surprise there!) "Mary Queen of Scots" hauling an 18 wagon MGR coal train, and LNER A3 "Lemberg" in wartime black livery hauling 9 teak coaches.
      We also ran a double header Pannier tank private owner wagon coal train, A1 "Tornado" hauling the teaks, and my Super Detail Black 5 in LMS livery hauling a rake of LMS crimson coaches.
      Oh, and not to forget a couple of Bachmann 08s, one in Freightliner orange livery and the other in HNRC blue, shunting various wagons.
      During all this action, my friend titivated the coal mine diorama and I serviced his venerable Bachmann B1.

    May I suggest making a video about showcasing your entire locomotive collection? I noticed some in this video that I don't remember seeing in previous reviews, such as (what I think is) a Class 24 in the shed at 3:58. I've got a Class 24 too, but mine is in BR blue.
    As for the layout itself, it just looks like a nice and wholesome passion project. I can't think of any other way to describe it.

    I watched that with a can of Irn Bru and can say 100% I could have been in Scotland! - Its all looking really good mate i like the grass in the tracks I did a bit of that on the old disused bit on mine but was considering adding some to the live line and I think this has convinced me to crack on and do it! - I love that 37 with the black side grilles when did you get that? 😮😍

    • @IainDavies-z2l
      @IainDavies-z2l 7 місяців тому +1

      Hi, I'm an expert on the railways of the West Highlands having being a driver up there in the 27/37 days and modelled the area as well. Yours has got too much track work and doesn't have correct look or atmosphere, but don't get me wrong as I said it's a nice layout just wrong location. The engine shed looks as it should be on the line between Aberdeen and Inverness.

    • @Proper_Chuffed
      @Proper_Chuffed  7 місяців тому +1

      @@IainDavies-z2l thanks for your expertise Iain, I really do appreciate it! I am basically brand new to this world of model railways and am based in South Africa, so sadly I don’t have that brilliant first hand experience. I hear what you’re saying, thank you for sharing the feedback, just trying to do my best! 😂 would it work in any highland area? Given it’s fictional.

    • @IainDavies-z2l
      @IainDavies-z2l 7 місяців тому +1

      The West Highland Line that starts properly at Craigendoran Junction on the Glasgow to Helensburgh electric railway is single line with passing places at stations, some have a couple of sidings. The largest location is at Fort William which has a yard and a loco depot and a private siding into an aluminum works. But it's mainly on a small scale. Looking at your layout (this is just my suggestion) I would base it somewhere like Elgin on the line between Aberdeen and Inverness. My current layout is "Inverkeld" based on Dunkeld just north of Perth on the Highland Main Line. I alway say you should be able to look at a model railway and know it's location. I hope this is some help to you.

    • @Proper_Chuffed
      @Proper_Chuffed  7 місяців тому

      @@IainDavies-z2l that is very helpful Iain, thank you so much for sharing that information. I hope at least to do it justice in the semblance that it’s a fictional highland railway then. I am no expert so value that information very much. Thank you sir
