  • How many expeditions has the OceanGate submarine made to the Titanic? When were they?
The submersible Titan went missing on its most recent expedition to the wreckage of the Titanic. Concerns had been raised in the past about the vessel.
OceanGate Expeditions has been operating deep-ocean expeditions since 2009. Over the years it has carried out more than 200 dives with its three submersible vessels in the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf of Mexico. Titan, which went missing on Sunday, is designed to go the deepest of them all, able to reach depths of over 13,000 feet, or 4,000 meters according to the company.
The craft was on a dive to explore the wreckage of the Titanic, resting on the Atlantic Ocean floor around 12,500 feet below sea level, with five tourists aboard when communication with it was lost. It wasn’t the vessel’s first trip to the Titanic, earlier expeditions had been planned as far back as 2018, but technical and regulatory snags had prevented them from being carried out.
It wasn’t until 2021, then again in 2022, that the Titan made the first of several dives to the most famous shipwreck in the world. While generally successful, those expeditions hadn’t been without their own problems.
Years before a tourist submersible went missing and was ultimately lost in what the Coast Guard called "a catastrophic implosion" on an expedition to explore the Titanic shipwreck with five passengers on board, red flags over safety issues emerged about the company that designed and operated the vessel.
OceanGate, which charged $250,000 per person for the Titanic voyage, is a privately held company that touted its "innovative use of materials and state-of-the-art technology" in developing small submersibles.
The five people who were aboard the missing sub did not survive.

The only way to look outside is when using the bathroom? Imagine being on the pooper with the best view touring the titanic wreck while the 4 others look at it on a screen

Nope, there is no literal bathroom. But there is little place to unload under the floor.

This man was adding nothing to science, especially whilst ignoring laws of science; it was a tourism cash cow and nothing else.

I wouldn't go in that oversized floating trash can even if somebody offered me $250,000 to do so, let alone paying for it.

I’m confused. They said Titan has the largest view port but several others in the video look much bigger. And then one person says they control it with a PS3 remote but it looks like and was confirmed recently to be a Logitech controller. How many submersibles does Oceangate really have? And why don’t they use standard equipment across the board?

We have the same questions in mind, maybe that is some of the titan sub flaws. Million dollar submarine that can be driven by a bluetooth game console controller. the larger the viewport, the greater the risk of disaster because of its weak protection for high pressure against the submarine under the ocean.

Same here. I don't want to spend time and money relaxing at the bottom of the ocean.
