In A New Hope, Vader doesn't say "again, I'm the master just like last time", he says "THIS TIME, I am the master"... So, somehow (helped by Qui Gon?) Obi Won has to find his mojo and own Vader in their last confrontation of this series, otherwise Vader's later words make no sense. That character arc is why I'm dying to see the next 3 episodes. Obi Won WILL NOT end this series weak and lost. He WILL find his way. His confidence in A New Hope was absolute...
I think once Obi-Wan communes with Qui-Gon and maybe Yoda his mind will be more clear about the force and his way in it then he will be able to face Vader the way he used to be able to face Anakin and he might get a strike on Vader which will end the series and hopefully we get a season 2
The best part about Hayden Christensen returning is the fact the fans have fully embraced him! You can tell he’s happy to back in Star Wars in interviews and especially at Star Wars celebration! But could you imagine if they keep his return a secret? It would break the internet! But man Darth Vader’s mere presence just demands your attention. He’s not messing around but at the same time is so casual about it. Only using one hand, not killing Obi-wan instantly, I don’t view this as him being arrogant but FLEXING on Obi-wan.
It's Andrew Garfield and TASM2 all over again. Give it time and the hate becomes nostalgia, and with nostalgia comes love. It's a shame that no love will repair what hate did to Jake Lloyd, the kid who played Anakin on EP I. Toxic fandom ruined his life, and he ended up in a psych ward.
@@javiherbou87 anakin is my fav Star Wars character and Andrew’s my fav Spider-Man ! Feels good to see my hero’s finally get the love they rightfully deserve.
@@ob1kenobi. this is a rumor and nothing more. His brother made a joke on twitter where he uses the Obi Two thing. But at the end of the day, there is nothing that proves this rumor...
Obi Wan saw the hallucination of Anakin of how he thought he'd look. He figured Anakin still looked normal. He had no idea Anakin would be a monstrous robot that snapped children's necks, which is partly why he was so shocked
@@GalacticFlare I was about to write that. Seems others agree, real curious about that line, would be really cool if it was true. Its like what they did bringing in Haydens voice from the film in the clone wars finale.
“Only with your eyes closed can you truly see”. Really cool line for Quinlin to have said, especially because of the power we know he has. Totally inline with what his attitude was, the last time we heard from him
Quinlin? Fix that, Sir! I loved Quinlan since when he was in Legends, by far my fav Jedi after Obi-Wan. Had this nickname for 15 years and it really made ne giddy when they mentioned him.
15:31 I haven’t seen anyone point this out but the reason he activated his lightsaber was to feel safe as it was very dark. He immediately turns it off and runs once he sees Vader again. Obi-Wan explained this earlier in the episode to Leila, about darkness and feeling safe when the lights are on.
Which is stupid, because that's not what the force is, and has never been explained like that... ever. The Jedi don't use the force because it's like a nightlight to them, and they're all scared little children that are afraid of the dark. And if it were the case here, then why not just leave the saber on if he's that afraid?
@@BigFry9591 That’s not what Obi-Wan meant. He was comparing the feeling of the force to the feeling of safety one might have after turning on the light, not literally using the force as a “nightlight.” He means that the force is a soothing, calming presence to a Jedi, especially in times of hardship. The saber is a further metaphor for that. Don’t take everything so literally.
@@thetasigma146 That's what I meant though. I didn't mean that the force was literally a light. But, again, that's not what the force is. Leia asks what the force feels like. Kenobi says that it pretty much feels like a nightlight, giving you light in the scary dark or whatever. But that isn't what it is. You can say that it's smooth and calming, but it isn't there purely for a Jedi to feel better.
I really like that they came up with a logical reason for why Leia could remember Padme... it's the Force telling her what she looked like, just like with Obi-Wan remembering his brother.
I've always interpreted it this way. Long before Obi-Wan. Not trying to brag here, but I did ask myself the question since the prequels "How does Leia remember her mother?". Well in ep6 she does say she just remembers visions, images. So it did make sense for that to be the Force. To me at least.
It is awful.....tore the canon of Star Wars to shreds....but let's forget about that....these writers are the reason for the hatred...stop closing your minds and making excuses....LEIA DID NOT KNOW OBI WAN KENOBI before A New Hope!!!!
@@chilling_at_pontiff FYI, in the original screenplay for "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi," Obi-Wan does have a brother, and it's none other than Luke Skywalker's uncle, Owen Lars. This detail never made it to the film's final cut, but it was still included in the movie's novelization.
I think what makes Vader's actions in this episode particularly vicious is the purpose behind them. Slaughtering the Tuskens and the Jedi, Vader killed them because he wanted/felt he needed to kill them. They were killed because that was his goal. In this episode, I feel that Vader is making a show of his cruelty to draw Obi Wan out. These poor people are just instruments for him to play with until Obi Wan gives in, and they both know that. Hurting innocent people in order to hurt someone else is a true sign of evil to me
When they went to complete silence for his breath, THAT was incredible. That is how you show respect to a character that has blown minds for generations.
This comment stood out because, sure, that is how you respect a character but then he arrives and randomly force snaps the neck of a civilian then force drags another, then later a droid saves Obi Wans life when we know that Vader could crush it but just stands there doing nothing. Not really respecting the character on those 2 scenes
I’m SO glad they didn’t just have Obi-Wan suddenly be a perfect fighter again. He was always someone who had to *work* for what he had. Anakin was the chosen one and Obi-Wan had to fight to his position and he’ll have to fight to get back to where he was.
IDK why people are complaining that Obi Wan should have been able to take on Vader Obi Wan hasn’t practiced with a lightsaber on interacted with the force in 10 years it’s not gonna come back to him magically plus he’s still struggling with so much PTSD
@@darthsidious3274 Because Vader is new to his suit, and taking some years off doesn't automatically make you forget every single thing you've done in your life, or forget how to do basic fighting moves. Kenobi in this episode destroyed stormtroopers with a blaster. He remember how to fight, except when the writers need him to not remember. Plus, the show has already made things magically happen for other characters. Why not him? he's fighting against a teleporting Darth Vader, might as well turn on your Jedi skills. And PTSD is a form of stress involving you feeling like you're back reliving trauma from your past. It doesn't necessarily mean that it makes you a scared little coward that can no longer fight. In fact, many vets with PTSD will still drop to the ground the moment they hear fireworks, or other explosion. They don't just run away from it. It kicks in your engrained training, whether or not the situation calls for it.
That doesn't make much sense. It's not like you immediately forget everything the moment you lay down a weapon. Yeah, it's been 10 years, but Kenobi has been a soldier for way longer than that. Vets today that haven't fought in a very long time still retain their training and discipline. You can't say that Kenobi can't remember anything about fighting. That's why this feels so bad to a lot of people. Kenobi just became a scared whiny little brat, and Leia is propped up as the adult. It makes no sense.
@@BigFry9591 it’s the same reasons why boxers don’t like to take to long outside of the ring. They lose the peak they were in by not consistently practising and staying at that level. It’s been a DECADE - and that’s excluding any trauma he has with not only Anakin personally but his entire race being genocided…
@@BigFry9591 vader isn't new to his suit he has been in it for 10 years at this point and obi wan definitely didn't forget how to use the saber but you would definitely be out of practice with it by this point. Also he seemed to be holding up well he was doing fine until he got force chocked
I feel like if Obi is injured and recovering the next episode, then that would be perfect for some flashbacks. Let’s hope that’s the case! I’m like a crack addict but instead of crack I need more Hayden. I just want to see him and all his wavy haired beauty.
One piece of subverted expectation im finding more and more awesome is the fact that drawing the Light Saber in the franchise has almost 100% of the time been done in a moment of badassery or determination. First time Obi Wan draws his here its out of sheer terror from Vaders whisper. Love it.
Oh no, the dreaded "subverted expectations"! You know what would have really subverted my expectations? If Vader removed his helmet and it was Leia all along. Consider my expectations subverted. XD
Luke turning on the lightsaber in Dagobah cave was the very epitome of fear. Not just the horror-like scenery but he literally lost that battle right when drew out his weapon. So no, it's not a "subversion of expectation" lol
I really liked this episode, the actress that plays young Leia is killing it so far, I'm enjoying Reva, and I didn't expect to see Vader in action so soon loved it all.
@@FullMetalB Absolutely i was interested, I thought she seemed cool in the trailers. But in the show, she's pretty bad. Though to be fair, so is the grand inquisitor in what we've seen of him. All better now?
And then he barely gets burned after LAYING IN FIRE! Dude fuck this show. They've successfully neutered Obi-wan worse than Luke. I hate Kathleen Kennedy with the fire of 1000 suns.
15:08 I love this moment right here, Vader standing in the wide open area, igniting his lightsaber first, ready to confront Obi Wan who defeated him years back expecting a big duel. It was until 15:15 when Obi runs away is when Vader realized he didn't have to take him too seriously, that the years really made him rusty, and just begins to toy with him.
Vader says very little...but you can feel the pure hatred and anger behind that mask...The desire to destroy everything and makes other suffer like he suffers...It was amazing acting, voice acting and cinematography ! Obi-wan is really unbalanced by the event here ! Can't wait for the next episode !!
I mean Vader’s whole thing is about the conflict within himself. The comics are a lot about this too. It didn’t strike me as odd that Vader let him get away.
@@Wolf6119 well, he wanted to torture and play with obi one. He wasn't interested in being distracted by a gun fight. He tracked obi wan easily and knows he can do it again.
@@philwill0123 Regardless of whether I agree or disagree with your assessment, I at least appreciate you put out more of a explanation for the whole thing than the showrunners have so far lol
@@Wolf6119 I think the show runners are assuming viewers are smart enough to understand that Darth Vader let Obi Wan escape on purpose and that the mind games also count. He doesn’t want an easy fight. I’m sure the show runners know that Vader would never be deterred by a little bit of fire.
Believe it or not Quinlan Vos status as an order 66 survivor was confirmed as far back as Darth Vader issue 7 of Charles Soule run in 2017. Where his name is along a list of other Jedi survivors. Also from that same run Darth Vader built his Castle with the help from the spirit of a Sith Lord named Darth Momim. He was an artist who loved to see his subjects frozen in terror. What makes him so different from even other Sith(that Palpatine straight up called him a heretic)is that he believed that if he glorified the dark side, it would give him eternal life here’s the quote “The dark side does not serve us. We serve the dark side. If we glorify it through our acts and our work and our art, it gives us power. It gives us life. Even life eternal.” - Darth Momin You can read the story for yourself in Charles Soule Darth Vader 2017 run of comics. Seriously that man is making some of the best Star Wars content and no one talks about it! Also recently the Knights of Ren planed a heist there!
That Vader fight clearly showed Obi-Wan at rock bottom. I bet they’re going to have him train himself and be 100% ready for Vader in the finale, and it’s going to be as epic as the prequel fights.
Yea I think he needs to find balance in the force before he can talk with his old master will be interesting in the final fight in this as I guess he will have found that and the line Obi wan once felt as you do to Luke in Jedi will make sense as maybe he tries to bring him back to the light side
Theory: Leia was caught at the end, we know that Quinlan is alive an Obi Wan can reach him through the imperial woman. Maybe we could have Quinlan tracking Leia
This was MUCH darker than I was expecting, but I love dark stuff so much, so this was probably my favorite episode of Marvel or Star Wars Disney shows yet. I just really love the dark stuff and part of it was that I wasn't expecting it in something like this which made it better. The sudden snapping of the kid's neck to burning Obi-Wan in the fire to make him feel the same pain as Anakin did on Mustafar was great to me.
vader's "strolling through town" scene was surprisingly dark. like yeah we've had dark star wars (planet exploding and offscreen youngling slaughter) but nothing as personal as a father being choked to death, a kid running out and yelling "DAD" only to have his neck snapped, and his mother runing out and being left to mourn. not in what i've seen, anyway.
The killing of the kid seemed out of character. Too sloppy. Vader is calculating and methodical in everything he does. Force choking someone to lure Kenobi out makes sense but just straight killing someone without a purpose?
@@spicysnowman8886 You are right, and interestingly, I have listed them in order of importance of these brothers to these characters. Maul had biological brothers, Vader had stepbrother, and the Inquisitors are brothers and sisters to each other in name only
Aight here's my general thoughts on the episode: I'm warming up to Reva. She was a lot more entertaining in this episode and to be honest I'm not really sure why, probably because I had more time to process her character rather than watching two episodes in a row of "new main character". Vader was incredible here. Both the Respeecher program and JEJ were credited, so his voice was definitely full AI. I'm surprised, the delivery of "I am what you made me" felt so angry and bitter and I wouldn't expect that quality from AI. Leia continues to be a standout, I loved the stuff with her learning more about her mother. Obi-Wan saying he remembers images of his family retroactively makes Leia's remembrance of Padme more believable.
Vader could control the fire and Obi wan, but he can't walk around it? He could even extinguish the fire with force or create a path thru it? He could draw Obi wan back with the force aswell like when he controlled him just a second before. How did Reva not meet the other lady in the tunnel and how did she get ahead of Leia in the tunnel? They said it's a one way tunnel?
@@memento5113 Vader must've done that on purpose. Probably wanted to know who'll help Obi Wan and find other Jedis? I dunno. I'm just trying to make do with that scene. Lol. But Vader did say the Obi Wan is all that matters.
@@memento5113 like Blind Wave says, I believe that now that Vader sees how weakened Obi-Wan is, he knows he can take his revenge slowly. As for the tunnel thing, I have no idea why they even said it was a one-way tunnel. That was already wrong due to the entire concept of a tunnel: if you're literally traveling from one place to another then logic states you can go from the destination to the entrance.
@@memento5113 Your comment is completely unrelated to the original comment aside from insinuating that you didn't enjoy the episode. Vader wants Obi-Wan to suffer and the Obi-Wan that Vader knows won't be suffer from physical pain. Perhaps he means to kill important people in front of him. And if Obi-Wan leads him to rebels, then that's two birds with one stone.
@@memento5113 Vader sees obi is weak now and realizes he can make him suffer more. Also the secret tunnel to the space port, being underground and secret, would most likely take longer than walking above ground. When Reva saw the tunnel and realized where it went, she traveled to the port above ground and got there first
I will never get over just how absolutely terrified Kenobi was in this entire episode. He's a broken, lost man. He's NOT a Jedi right now. He's just a shell. And watching how terrified he was of Vader, how slow, how weak he was. Just. Vader's never been more terrifying for me. Ewan is killing this role, and it's precisely how Obi Wan should be at this moment. I don't doubt that they're going to have another fight, that Qui-Gon's going to return to Kenobi and help him find his balance again, and we're going to see Kenobi 'school' Vader again, with some sort of line, "You still have a lot to learn." And it'll be when Obi-Wan decides Anakin is dead and only Vader lives. Which is how we get Vader still feeling that Kenobi is the Master when they last met. And also, Kenobi will allow himself to seem like he 'dies' in some fashion.
Take it you have never watched any of the original trilogy then....leia did not know obi wan kenobi...kenobi did not meet vader(in his suit) until a new hope...the empire and vader did not know there was any jedi still alive....it is honking..George Lucas.must have tears streaming down his face with laughter. Favreau and Filloni must look at this rubbish and despair..they try and make it respectable and Kennedy comes in with her stilettos and skweres it again!!!
@@andrewtorrens947 Firstly, I agree it seems like Leia didn't know Kenobi, but from what I can tell Leia doesn't actually know who Obi-Wan is. She just knows him as Ben, right? (I may be wrong, can't remember) It's also not impossible she simply forgot stuff about him, maybe she didn't make the connection of him being Obi-Wan Kenobi as in the Clone Wars general so in ANH she has no idea because she never made the connection as a child. We have to wait and see what happens in the rest of the series to make full judgment on this. Secondly, how do you know Obi-Wan didn't meet Vader in his suit? Obi-Wan even provides detail about Vader to Luke when he says Vader is more machine than man. Granted, he could've figured that out from other sources but from what I can tell there's no dialogue that absolutely rules out them meeting between episode 3 and 4. Thirdly, Vader and the Empire absolutely knew there were some Jedi still around. They never found Yoda, they were aware of Cal Kestis from Fallen Order as well as Kanan and Ezra from Rebels which was literally less than a year before A New Hope. In fact when Vader tells Tarkin Kenobi is on the Death Star, Tarkin says "surely he must be dead by now," implying they know they didn't kill him and he's out there in the galaxy. You clearly didn't watch the original trilogy
@@hc-04 Anyone who really watched the original trilogy, would know they played fast and loose with continuity and common sense. Anakin can't recognize his daughter or her force sensitivity when he's torturing her? Sure.
@@juststatedtheobvious9633 It does make some sense that Vader wouldn't know Leia is his daughter. Neither of them knew so it's not like Vader could've read her mind or anything. As for her sensitivity to the force, I do actually agree with you on that, which is why I'm thinking Obi-Wan going to put some kind of Force block on her or something so that she can't use the Force. Anyways what does this have to do with my previous comment?
@@hc-04 I was agreeing with you. Explanations for inconsistencies are fun, and have been part of the experience since the original theatrical run. Thanks for bringing back memories of the good old days.
I gotta say, i don't think I'm going to be okay the day that we eventually do lose James Earl Jones. Amazing actor, amazing voice, amazing characters, and from everything I've seen such a kind and gentle person. He's a gem.
I’ve always wanted to see scary Darth Vader on screen. To see why he’s the most feared in the galaxy. We saw a glimpse in Rogue One. A few years ago I did a VR Star Wars experience in London & having him slowly walk towards you with lightsaber was actually scary as hell. That guy in ep 3. That was him.
@@hafor2846 I thought he was fairly frightening in ep 3 and I can see him getting more so. I liked the psychological cat and mouse game he was enjoying playing this week. Hopefully they only build on this.
No, that wasn't him. He teleports around to wherever he wants, doesn't do anything to stop Obi-wan from running, then "burns" him, then just watches the robot walk away with Obi-wan. You know, the only reason he's on this planet. Dear god this show is the worst piece of trash ever.
@@scottf5791 I took it that he was provoking Obi Wan. He stops in that street, looks across at exactly the house we know Obi Wan is in and chooses someone directly opposite from it. I interpreted it as Vader knew Obi Wan was in that house & he wanted to either draw him out, or simply torment him with how much he’s now on the dark side by putting on a show for him, as he knows that’ll cause him pain. The whole sequence felt like a predator toying with its prey. Made sense to me and was a great way of adding tension in a situation where we know neither will die.
A sincere thank you, Blind Wave, for being a corner of Star Wars fandom that is sincere and logical. I have to remind myself that the “fans” who complain and revert to bigotry are immature and narrow minded. There will always be that crowd with any piece of art/media. Love you guys!💙
Same. This comment section is full of patient people willing to learn and allow the story to develop. Not impose their personal head canons on the story.
Another note with the whole feeling safe with the force and how Obi Wan is in the dark. Is i like to think he ignited his Lightsaber to feel more safer as he was scared when Vader was chasing him.
I have loved Darth Vader since my childhood and I’ve never been scared oh him but in this episode I finally saw why he terrified so many people. Ewan Mcgregor’s reactions to seeing Vader really sold how terrifying Vader actually is. What a performance by both Hayden and Ewan😭🔥🔥
Vader took the advice of a Qui-Gon from an alternate universe; "Theatricality and deception are powerful agents. You must become more than just a man in the mind of your opponent."
respeecher, the software/program that was used to create Luke's voice in The Book Of Boba Fett, is also credited at the end of the episode. definitely possible that Vader's voice/dialogue is all AI created.
“I am what you made me” the sad part is he’s referring to not only Obi-Wan but the entire Jedi Order. They failed him almost from the start, the only one who didn’t was Qui-Gon
The whole sequence from when Vader enters the village to when Tala rescues Obi-Wan... it's incredible. It looked almost like a horror movie. Vader is an unrelenting threat here, and Obi-Wan knows he can't take him on and win. Just awesome. And what a pleasure to hear James Earl Jones in his most iconic role again. I hope Hayden shows up again as a hallucination or something.
the force explenation is one of the most simplistic and at the same time meaningful and colourful explenations ever. everyone one watching knows EXACTLY what this feeling was like as a child. brilliant writing
Love how even against Obi-Wan, Vader used one hand. Showing his power has grown and he's VADER 👌 Hearing James talk to Ewen was more than I expected too
"Are Jedi as good with blasters as they are with lightsabers", Obi-Wan grins and replies, "Better. We only use lightsabers to make fights more... equitable."
Surpised Eric didn’t know this piece of trivia. Obi wan mentioning a brother is even more epic then most people understand. Before Episode 2 the clone wars legend canon made it seem that owen Lars was actually obi wan’s brother. It was edited out of return of the Jedi, mentioned in a card game in 1995, and even mentioned in a novel released for the phantom mance.
Really enjoyed this episode. In response to Eric though, it wasn't a young girl that Kumail Nanjiani's character saved. It was a young boy named Corran, with a mother named Nyche. Both are Legend's characters created by Mike Stackpole (with the surname Horn) through the X-Wing and I, Jedi novels. A really cool call back and time/age appropriate for a future Rogue Squadron pilot.
This episode blew my mind! I must have rewatched it at least 5 times already. Everything was so well made, from the PTSD visions of Anakin, to Leia and Obi-Wan's scene about the Force (what a great analogy by Obi too!) and of course - Vader himself. Perfection
3:12 He'll be happy to hear there's an animated series called Tales of the Jedi that will be coming this fall and a few episodes will be about Dooku and young Qui-Gon (voiced by Liam Neeson's son)!
You can literally see Anakin in the way Darth Vader walks. The posture, the wielding style; everything looks like Ep 3. Hayden is phenomenal in his portrayal of Vader. Just the sound of his breathing makes me tense in caution, the way he stalks though the settlement reminds me of his march on the temple. Every stride is Hayden pouring ROTS Anakin into that suit. Amazing performance. And ObiWan's face when he see's Vader face to face for the first time? Priceless. There was the instinctive fear from the visage of the suit, the disbelief that this was once his Padawan and finally the heartbreaking guilt that he had failed all those years ago to save Anakin. Having Hayden and Ewan share a scene once more is just peak Star Wars to me.
I recently watched The Lore Master's video on Obi-Wan's complete Legends history, and in that was mentioned a vision of a brother, which Obi-Wan later took to be referring to him seeing Anakin as a brother. So, I really perked up when Obi-Wan mentioned his parents and having a brother. I love the story potential of Jedi thinking about their biological family. I also love Obi-Wan comparing the Force to a nightlight. It reminds me of the Jedi of the High Republic imagining the Force as different concepts, and I like him later using his lightsaber as a nightlight when he's at his most scared.
Thank you for that. I knew I recognized her as soon as she appeared but I'm over 60 and there's a WHOLE lot of faces and voices in my memory banks and my processor speed is really getting slower😝
I feel like they're setting up for Quinlan to be the one to rescue Grogu at some point before the Mandalorian. Also, I feel like the vision Yoda saw in the Clone Wars with Quinlan and all the Younglings in the future, could have been a representation to this.
The Vader vs Obi-Wan fight reminded me a LOT of that one edit a fan did of Obi-Wan and Vaders duel in Episode 4 on The Death Star, except they made Vader a lot more angry and faster and more ruthless. This is exactly the type of Vader people have been waiting to see, especially since the prequels
In episode IV, Vader says, “When I LEFT you I was but the learner,” and that could just reference when he stopped being his apprentice and turned to the dark side. So Vader besting Obi-Wan in a duel doesn’t break canon.
I mean, they could also have a second fight after Obi-Wan regains his confidence, maybe after Qui-Gon talks to him. Because that line doesn’t make sense with what we saw here. You really think that this Obi-Wan would have lasted that long in the Death Star like he was here? Not to mention, beat Maul like he did in Rebels?
@@strategist40k86 We know that Obi-Wan reconnects with the Force (and Qui-Gon) over the following years, but in my opinion he shouldn't be able to come anywhere close to becoming a worthy opponent for Vader ever again. Neither Kenobi, nor Maul or Ahsoka could beat him, which is why they all chose to believe in Luke instead. Also, a reminder that by the time of Rebels S2, both Palpatine and Vader aren't even sure Kenobi's still alive, so I think he's going to come out of this series a survivor rather than a victor. As for Obi-Wan's duel with Maul in Rebels, I think we can all agree it was more of a mind game than actual display of combat prowess (not to say I disliked it, quite the contrary, it's still my favourite Star Wars fight of all time).
19:15 Quinlan Vos was also undercover in the "Dark Disciple" book, which is one of 9 different Clone Wars arcs which were sadly cancelled by Disney taking over Star Wars. I really hope to see that story return to screen again in the future.
And Reva can teleport in one way tunnels. Also Leia was outrunning Obi wan and everyone in the previous episode. This episode she decides to, walk slowly. In the middle of Vader and Obi wan, do we get another action scene when they jump back and forth? No we get Leia walking slowly.
@@evancowles7101 That makes sense if you use the logic that Vader can extinguish fire and control Obi wan but then suddenly he can't. Flawed logic made this episode bad. Could have been great.
@@memento5113 did you listen to their whole discussion? Vader chose not to extinguish the flames again because he wants to make Obi Wan suffer. He wants to make him feel all the pain that he has. yep! hes the one either talking about the T-16 or the one being talked to. Sam told the story about the T-16 model on Star Wars Celebration and said it would return in the Kenobi series. I did a little cheer when i heard it
Great work guys! I couldn’t stop smiling from start to finish! When the General FINALLY turned on his lightsaber with the blue illuminating on his face. EPIC!! I never thought I’d see the day of Darth Vader in his Prime!!
What's kind of sad is: I get the feeling Vader is less upset about the fact Obi-Wan tried to kill him and more upset about the fact that he failed. His entire existence has to have been pure misery for the past 10 years... It's his own fault, but I get it.
@@punchforpound2808 well said. Nothing deep about the fire scene other than the fact that it is contrived and poorly written. Vader has been hunting Kenobi for 10 years to kill him.
The best line in the whole show, for me, was: Leia: What does the Force feel like? Ben: Are you afraid of the dark? Leia: Sometimes [or yes, cannot remember what she said exactly.] Ben: When you turn on the light, that feeling. That is what the Force feels like.
@@BigFry9591 He's literally just saying the force feels like safety. Considering the force is something the Jedi spend their entire lives drawing strength, wisdom, and protection from how the fuck is that incorrect to say?

I appreciate this channel so much, first you guys all look like cool dudes easy to hang with but the most thing I appreciate is your thumbnails. I said the exact same thing about Obi running back out around the corner. My friend said the same thing. It's such a funny thought ''I changed my mind. I'm gonna fight him''
I love that Vader really feels like in the OT. It has something to do with the way he moves and the suit. It's different to Rogue One (wich was also amazing)
Also there seems to be the weird stance that every single critique against this show or any others is due to the critic being a toxic hater. There is a space in between, where you can be Star Wars fan and still recognize faults in the product.
I just heard an interresting theory, that the “Only with your eyes closed can you truly see” by Quinlin maybe hints at a reversal of the Mustafa Duel. That maybe Vader leaves Obi-Wan for dead when they next meet and that is the point where Qui Gon comes in and helps Obi Wan rise. btw heard this from Ralph on Geek Dad Life Two.
I wonder if Vader would leave him for dead though. Obviously just toying with him in part 3, but there’s no doubt he wants him dead. When the time comes you don’t think he’d go in for the kill?
Thats what im hoping too. Ive enjoyed the beaten hopeless Obi-Wan and Vader giving him a taste of the pain he felt is perfectly in line with not wanting to kill him but torture him. But i do hope he begins rising again. He now sees and understand the weight of his failures fully. theres no doubt or confusion. Next episode better have Liam Neeson giving him a proper conversation much like Obi-Wan did for Luke. "At our lowest point, we can experience the greatest growth." He then finally steels himself for the task at hand and regains some if the great General and Jedi Master he was.
I loved this episode so much. The first 2 episode were just build up, but seeing James Earl Jones interact with Ewan McGregor is just so satisfying, especially with seeing the relationship build up from the Prequel trilogy and the Clone Wars show
I love to think that Vader had been sitting on that fire idea for literal years, just waiting to do it. Like, "I got the greatest plan, I can't wait to burn his ass, I'm gon' get him."
I think maybe Vader(Anakin) is trying to hold himself back. Like he took the first excuse he could to decide he couldn’t chase him anymore. I think seeing Obi-wan as Obi-wan saw Anakin on Mustafar sort of created enough hesitation and conflict to hold him back from just killing Obi-wan right there. We all know sometimes Anakin bleeds through, I feel like they’re going for this Jekyll and Hyde thing except Jekyll is conscious as well as Hyde and Jekyll is always trying to hold him back and most of the time failing. Anakin, I feel like, is holding Vader back as much as he can constantly. So that memory was strong enough to give Anakin some control at the one moment.

Ayyy
Erics head watching this you can see it. This is a Star Wars Genius layed on so many levels

@@BigFry9591
That’s not what Obi-Wan meant.
@@BigFry9591 like the comment above stated I don't think you quite understood the analogy

I thought that too. It made me think, as in the last episode, that she's taking things from peoples minds.
I've always interpreted it this way. Long before Obi-Wan. Not trying to brag here, but I did ask myself the question since the prequels "How does Leia remember her mother?". Well in ep6 she does say she just remembers visions, images. So it did make sense for that to be the Force. To me at least.
Huh? Obi -Wan is talking about actually seeing a brother as an infant or small child but fuzzy with memories. Not force giving images.

One piece of subverted expectation im finding more and more awesome is the fact that drawing the Light Saber in the franchise has almost 100% of the time been done in a moment of badassery or determination. First time Obi Wan draws his here its out of sheer terror from Vaders whisper. Love it.

Gotta say, after seeing Hayden’s face, it really felt like he was ONLY malice, he felt angry getting suited up. Great expressions.
vader's "strolling through town" scene was surprisingly dark. like yeah we've had dark star wars (planet exploding and offscreen youngling slaughter) but nothing as personal as a father being choked to death, a kid running out and yelling "DAD" only to have his neck snapped, and his mother runing out and being left to mourn. not in what i've seen, anyway.

Aight here's my general thoughts on the episode:
I'm warming up to Reva.

No, that wasn't him. He teleports around to wherever he wants, doesn't do anything to stop Obi-wan from running, then "burns" him, then just watches the robot walk away with Obi-wan. You know, the only reason he's on this planet. Dear god this show is the worst piece of trash ever.
It was completely out of character for Vader to senselessly kill without a purpose. Vader is methodical in everything he does.
That moment with Anakin in the middle of knowhere was chilling
A sincere thank you, Blind Wave, for being a corner of Star Wars fandom that is sincere and logical. I have to remind myself that the “fans” who complain and revert to bigotry are immature and narrow minded. There will always be that crowd with any piece of art/media. Love you guys!💙
Same. This comment section is full of patient people willing to learn and allow the story to develop. Not impose their personal head canons on the story.
The Quinlan Vos reference was such a nice detail even if we already confirmed his survival in the comics.
And the fact Obi Wan seeing that he survived as well as over jedi with this whole The Path. Made him happy
I wonder if he is the one who saved Grogu
@@njt2347 Highly unlikely, Grogu was at the Temple during Order 66. Quinlan was on Kashyyyk with Yoda and Luminara when Order 66 happened.
Vader took the advice of a Qui-Gon from an alternate universe;
"Theatricality and deception are powerful agents. You must become more than just a man in the mind of your opponent."
Vader/Bane: "I AM the League of Shadows"
while obiwan is acting like Qui-gon from another universe where he said: WhErE iS tHe gIrL!!!!!!!
Basically how Dooku trained Grievous in '03 Clone Wars.
I’ve been waiting all day for this 🤣🤣
Same

respeecher, the software/program that was used to create Luke's voice in The Book Of Boba Fett, is also credited at the end of the episode. definitely possible that Vader's voice/dialogue is all AI created.
Whoever is making that technology is doing a wonderful job.
It sounds just like the characters and it’s very impressive.
“I am what you made me” the sad part is he’s referring to not only Obi-Wan but the entire Jedi Order. They failed him almost from the start, the only one who didn’t was Qui-Gon
It might be my brain messing with me, but i swear i could hear Anakins screams from episode 3 mixed with Obi-Wans when he is burned
I mean Qui-Gon could have saved his mom from slavery really easily so in that way he failed too
@@DonMariof you are right, I could definitely hear Anakin’s screams from when he burned on Mustafar mixed with Obi-Wan’s screams
@@godawgs8945how could he? Watto refused to bet on both of their freedoms, that’s why he rolled that dice and we saw he was immune to Jedi mind tricks

Vader "The Grand Inquisitor means nothing"
Also Vader "Prove yourself and the position is yours."
Kenobi is 🔥 🔥 🔥
It's nice how Obi Wan fights Vader in a mining outpost, similarly to Revenge of the Sith.
Hilarious to hear Calvin mention wanting to see Dooku and padawan Qui-Gon when that’s exactly what we’re going to see in Tales of the Jedi.
the force explenation is one of the most simplistic and at the same time meaningful and colourful explenations ever. everyone one watching knows EXACTLY what this feeling was like as a child. brilliant writing
Agreed. Pretty fantastic episode
Fun Fact: Ewan McGregors brother is a fighter pilot and his call sign is Obi-two
be funny if it was Obi-Also
Fun fact: Eric says the exact same thing in the video but you've done those who skip a great service :).
Fun Fact: Who cares! Another Fun Fact: Worst Tv show ever!
@@youman112 Care to explain why its the "worst tv show ever"?
@@JuicedCazyD Worst Writing, Worst acting, especially by the Reva actress, and worst directing and SFX.
Love how even against Obi-Wan, Vader used one hand. Showing his power has grown and he's VADER 👌
Hearing James talk to Ewen was more than I expected too
"Are Jedi as good with blasters as they are with lightsabers", Obi-Wan grins and replies, "Better. We only use lightsabers to make fights more... equitable."
Not so hard to be a better shooter than a stormtrooper. ;p
Calvin; “He ran off, and then just came back”
I honestly cannot believe they broke the 180° camera rule. How did that get past the editors room?
yeah this episode had a bunch of messy stuff in it like it was made last minute
That's exactly what I said. This an amateur hour?
Was it like that in the actual show? I've only seen the reaction, so which edit is the culprit?
@@AnimusZen It's exactly like that in the show.
A good improvement on the first couple episodes. Didn't expect to get a fight between them this early. Hope the 2nd half of the show is even better.
I hadn’t even realized that was master Horn!
This episode blew my mind! I must have rewatched it at least 5 times already. Everything was so well made, from the PTSD visions of Anakin, to Leia and Obi-Wan's scene about the Force (what a great analogy by Obi too!) and of course - Vader himself. Perfection
I kinda want a Quinlan Vos series about him and his adventures hiding Jedi, Hell they could even call it Star Wars :The Path
3:12 He'll be happy to hear there's an animated series called Tales of the Jedi that will be coming this fall and a few episodes will be about Dooku and young Qui-Gon (voiced by Liam Neeson's son)!
This is where the fun begins
I think for next episode we’ll see Obi Wan recovering and while unconscious we’ll get flashbacks to various stages of his life.
My god, I hope so and hopefully they do the life action Ahsoka discussion that would be absolutely chilling.
Bacta time!!!
This show is trash
Did anyone else get a Princess Bride moment when Vader walks up, ignites his saber, and Ben just goes "nope" and runs?
"Hello! My name is Darth Vader, you killed Anakin. Prepare to die."
@@ser132 Inconceivable!
That's the moment they succeed in the slow castration of Obi-wan. They've destroyed this character smh
The Force is like a light when you are afraid of the dark. Just like Obi-Wan's lightsaber in the darkness here
I love that Vadar was only using one hand to fight. he was playing with his food
Love to listen to you guys talk about Star Wars. Seriously, you could make a dedicated podcast for this!
Trivia....The woman Tala who saved Obi & Leia played Ellaria the lover of the Red Viper ( Pedro 'Mando' Pascal ) in game of thrones
"If that's something you're looking for here, please don't subscribe" ..... Love you guys.
yup
In episode IV, Vader says, “When I LEFT you I was but the learner,” and that could just reference when he stopped being his apprentice and turned to the dark side. So Vader besting Obi-Wan in a duel doesn’t break canon.
Underappreciated comment, I see a LOT of people (even die-hard fans like Blind Wave) misspell that quote and it really bothers me, haha.
You apologists for Disney astound me. They've destroyed Obi-wan smh. He's a straight coward now. This show is the worst star wars I've ever seen

13:48 Eric - "He's here" my exact thoughts just absolute chills.
Kenobi was so lucky that Vader's fire extinguisher ability has a five-minute cooldown.
@@memento5113 it’s the Inquisitor’s job to hunt, so logically Reva would have realized that the tunnel lead to the spaceport and just went around
@@evancowles7101 That makes sense if you use the logic that Vader can extinguish fire and control Obi wan but then suddenly he can't. Flawed logic made this episode bad. Could have been great.

His entire existence has to have been pure misery for the past 10 years... It's his own fault, but I get it.
I also feel like Vader was also upset with how week Obi-wan was, Like after all these years waiting for a rematch he wasn’t worthy anymore
@@punchforpound2808 well said. Nothing deep about the fire scene other than the fact that it is contrived and poorly written. Vader has been hunting Kenobi for 10 years to kill him.
eric always looks so damn happy
the flames reflecting on the helmet, and the lighting from the sabers look so good.
The best line in the whole show, for me, was:
Leia: What does the Force feel like?
Ben: Are you afraid of the dark?
Leia: Sometimes [or yes, cannot remember what she said exactly.]
Ben: When you turn on the light, that feeling. That is what the Force feels like.
Which makes no sense, because that's not what the force is. It was never explained as that ever. That's just not what it is.

I was NOT expecting a confrontation between Vader and Obi Wan so soon, it almost didn’t feel real.
They’ll have a rematch, probably later on.
I like that Vader has a throne on Mustafar. The place where he was baptized in fire and where Darth Vader was born.
Quinlan helping force sensitive children. Ventress would be proud.
I love that Vader really feels like in the OT. It has something to do with the way he moves and the suit. It's different to Rogue One (wich was also amazing)
i love that you guys are genuine sw fans and not the toxic haters that most of the fandom has become
Love this theory, im thinking qui-gon is turning up at a really important moment and this could be it
I wonder if Vader would leave him for dead though.
The Quinnlin Vos reference was great
I loved this episode a lot. I can't remember the last time, if ever, I've been that engrossed in something from Star Wars.
Vader wasn’t satisfied with his revenge. The circle has begun…
