- This week on Life Off Road, we leave the impassable snow behind as we embark on an unexpected and thrilling adventure in Kevington, Victoria. Our mission wasn't about testing limits, but rather about embracing an unforeseen challenge that led us to a daring dive into the Rapid River and an unexpected encounter with the challenges presented by the infamous Mt Terrible on the other side of the Valley.

We start from the northern approach with Poletti Track, just out of Kevington, as it cuts it's way west from the valley floor and climbs steadily towards the ridge line and Mt Terrible Track above.
The track is steep, slippery and rough enough in parts for some low range action and we even test the mud chains out on one steeper section. But all in all it's a straight forward ascent that has most of us wanting something a little harder .Mansfield
There are some great displays of synchronised driving as well as some very poor direction following, and whilst we finally reach the summit of Mt Terrible, the heavy fog blocks any of the stunning views the iconic Mt Terrible hut is famous for. A bite of lunch is all the time required for the fog to lift and the promised broad views of the valley below are finally revealed for our interstate travellers.
We start our descent by heading south, and drop off to the east, along Moonlight Spur, for what we hope will be a short cut. The track is in great condition, the pace is quick and there's plenty of fun and laughs during our rapid descent, but just a few hundred metres from the main road we are stopped in our tracks by a final obstacle!
A flooded water crossing on the junction of Gaffney's and Moonlight Creeks sees us stranded at the end of the day. Will we cross it, or take the long track back into the darkness? Watch to find out!

I ain't even kidding! I would ship my truck to Oz just to do a trip with you guys! Your show is soo much better and nicer than other popular Ozzie ones! Nice to have women there too! Makes us feel included!
Well we would love to have you along! Thank you for the feedback, we think it''s important to be family friendly and inclusive! We all want to have fun out there.
That’s Gaffneys Creek at the bottom of Moonlight Spur at Knockwood. There is a nice hole with a rock in it on the direct bank to bank route. Hug the left bank and you’ll be right. Normally its pretty gentl with limited flow. Spent an arvo pulling a broken axle and the front prop shaft earlier this year in the campsite just on the other side of the crossing.
spot on mate, that is exactly how we drove it.
Thanks for your great work 😅
anytime!
Cheers mate.
If only a certain British guy had any of your experience. He wrote-off a 5wk. old Ford Ranger Wildtrak in 0.6m-0.8m deep water, in an Essex ford. That’s a £29,000+ or $55,312+ bill, seeing as how the insurance probably won’t pay up, since he purposely drive into the river.
(Not me and not my problem.)
Wow, that's an expensive mistake!!!
I have Amber marker lights facing front and red led bar at the back on my Ute and they stay on all time time which is good for safety and specially in foggy or overcast conditions
That's cool but just be careful as they are illegal in some states
@@4WDTV nsw is legal as long as Amber facing front and red facing rear and they don’t blind people
No diff breathers, No snorkel, alright. What happened to tarp in front? Using gears to slow down on downward slope is a good idea but cooling down in water is not. I can see the fun intended but water can enter through seals.
yes of course. That is why we all stopped and cooled the cars down before the first smaller crossing and had a good half an hour before the final deeper crossing, which actually wasn't that deep. Only on car really made a risk of the crossing without cooling down properly and that was the camera crew car...and that my friend is an ongoing drama and story as they race ahead to get set up.
