you can also for all thing that are opened by right click like chest crafting table you and shift click to put stuff on it

The reason why the flesh didn't cook the first time, but fif the third was because you pu the flesh in the first slot, which already has something already cooked in the first slot. But when you out it in the fifth, there was nothing in the fifth output slot, so there was room.

For the lamp you can just shift click the cabinet thing thats a way to place stucff on crafting tables furnaces chests ect.

you get modloader/forge for the latest version then follow the mods installation instructions

There is already an item in the output slot in the stove. That is why you cannot cook anything.
