I had lost the cassette that had the whole comedy show that this was originally on and am so glad to hear it again. I sing it to friends in church and try to convince them that I used sing it in church when I was younger.
I found the actual *record* in a used goods store in Idaho, and it is one of my most treasured possessions. I had first heard it way way back in the early 80s and laughed through the entire song. (They played it on KBRT in Southern California.)
If your Hair is long there IS sin in your heart. If your hair is short there is sin in your heart. If your hair is blue, red, green, blond, gray, or brown there is sin in your heart. if you are bald there is sin in your heart. So the point of this song should not be "Get a haircut you sinful hippies" it should be "Get saved all you sinners" Glad the times have changed (Kind of)
I see members of the SONRISE group.. I loved them. :) Cindy Brown wrote 2 of my favorite songs back then. God Never Fought one Losing Battle was such a good song !!! Still is !!!
Everyone calm down. This is a joke. The original recording of this song was done by Otis Forrest, Art Bain and Dean and Mary Brown. A preacher from Texas wrote this song along with others like "Heavan Yes, Hell No" "I'm glad I met the preacher who scared he'll out of me" and others. I do not recall the preachers name. Copy's of this have circulated for decades.
I originally heard both this song and "Heaven Yes, Hell No" on a CD called "50-Year Reunion" by Sanctified Glory Mountain Revival Family (an anonymous group parodying bad southern gospel quartets), then recently found versions by another southern gospel parody group called The Glory Bugles. Any idea where I can find the originals of those?
Manning, could you supply me with the song credits and copyright information if available? I'd like to post an arrangement on Sheet Music Plus, but it's not in their database of copyrighted songs to choose from. I'm afraid that many people think the song is public domain. I'd like to obtain permission from the original writer(s) so that we can set the record straight. Thanks. Lyndell Leatherman, Leatherman Music Services
I first became aware of this song because of an anonymous comedy group called "The Sanctified Glory Mountain Revival Family" who did it on their albums (a cassette in 1993 and a CD 5 years later). I had no idea this song dated back to 1979. Anyone have further history on this?
I did not want to respond to this comment but this is actually funny to me listening to this. I understand the subconscious programming of church members but I decided to respond. The hair on your on your head is natural nd it grows naturally so according to nature your is want connects your to the universe and aids yours holistic thinking so you could have a holy experience on earth. Hair on your symbolized a man who is mentally free and is thriving for nirvana. Hair on your is just as similar when a lion grows his hair. It's nature. Hair is just your spiritual antenors.
I got this song when my cousin went to Nashville and made a recording. The people that owned the recording studio were a gospel group. They sent back this song on a reel to reel tape. They were a good group but they sang it out of tune and off key. My group could not sing it the way they did but we did our best. It was fun. Thanks Bobby Davidson....
+Bobby Davidson I had a copy of the whole album on a cassette tape. Now I found it on itunes under Grace Notes. Not sure if they are the original artists or not. funny stuff!
My opinion for what its worth, There probably wasn't a barber shop on every corner. And what was the definition of long hair ? Back then maybe when it touched shoulders, maybe waist, I don't know. I do know people get hung up on things like things like this and have been to services where preachers preached on this and drives people away. I think they have good intentions. Its up to the Holy Spirit to convict them if its wrong. Some get hung up on beards. I believe it would be tough shaving with a knife on a regular bases too. Maybe I'm wrong but seemed to be inspired to write this. Peace and love to all ! Amen
Its not that they are looking for something to complain about Biblically speaking Paul stated that long hair was shameful on a man but a woman with long hair it was her glory. So technically they are biblically correct, as far as Samson that was a special situation and unless the men with long hair are undertaking a Nazarite vow then in Gods eyes its shameful. Once again Paul saw Jesus on the road to Damascus so "IF" Jesus had long hair Paul would have been calling Jesus shameful looking.NIce try but your stepping outside of the scriptures
Utterly wrong. You’re only quoting half the verse. The verse says “Does not even nature teach you that it is a shame for a man to have long hair?” Not the same. Hard to say what Paul meant by “nature”. And if God felt long hair was sinful, why did he not consider the vows of Nazirites, like Samson, who vowed not to cut their hair, to be shameful?
Wow, this has to be a staged comedy routine, but if this is for real 😳 it's times like this that I Thank God I'm an atheist lol ..but the MC said this was in Shreveport, does anyone know where exactly ?
If your hair is too long there is sin in your heart, if you have bad thoughts? If you still the offer? If you judge another's? If you condemn your neighbors? If you are gossip? If you preach a extreme gospel? If you are a pharisees? Etc THERE IS ALOT OF SIN IN UR HEART!,
Funny, Blaine Bowman made this up with a whole radio show back in the 80’s that he and his family have been performing ever since. Hmm… are you kin to him?
Lol, if only these people back then realized that the Biblical heroes, including Jesus Himself, likely had long hair. Sampson definitely did, as he was a Nazirite.
Jesus did not have long hair. Paul stated if a man had long hair it was a shame. Because nature shows woman long men short haired. Now you may ask how do I know because the Apostle Paul saw Jesus on the road to Damascus so common sence would mean if long hair was a shame on a man unless it was for a vow(Nazarite) Paul would be saying Jesus was shamefull looking and Jesus would not look or live contrary to scriptures..he leaves that up to us who choose to live contrary
Ugh, this same point again? Pardon that rude remark, it's just that I've had to repeat myself on this same thing so many times as a long-haired man myself. Paul clearly is referring to using our hair as a covering in worship, when you look at that verse in context. He refers to that in the same passage that says women should keep their heads covered during worship. Additionally, people like Samson had long hair, and the Israelite men weren't supposed to cut their hair, so you'd say they're shameful? Funny, considering God Himself commanded them to do such things. Samson was a Nazirite -- given to God from birth -- and part of the Nazirite vow said you could not cut your hair. Remember the story? Delilah cut Samson's hair and he lost his supernatural strength. And finally, if it truly were a sin and not just a guideline Paul was setting for worship, then why was it only listed in one tiny passage that refers to worship practices, rather than in the Old Testament and New Testament both?
I didn't say it Paul said it. Paul understood Biblical also. Which under the Nazarite there was exception obviously in scripture. Either Bible says what is says or it doesn't. TY :)
Ten Commandments are in the Old Testament also but still relevant today. Matter of fact all Jesus preached from was the OT.. Only the ceremonial stuff was done away with for the most part if your game Id love to do a Bible only study with you,,
All I'm saying, is that if having long hair in general was truly something sinful or shameful, then it would have been stressed more than once, and certainly not in the context that it was stated. :P
When u shave your head it is call a Caesar and according to history those people where not very nice. So I would rather follow the part in the contradictory bible where hair is ok similar to Solomon or Jesus aka Yahweh this 2 people where great men and had holistic thoughts I'll follow those guys.
There is karate and self defense in my heart as the result of getting the shit bullied out of me all through school. Firearms too. I love Jesus and all great teachers- and this guy aint one of them.
Except.....no....NOT! Holiness can not be measured with a ruler. Ridiculous. So glad Jesus IS the plumb line and NOT religious institutions and their arbitrary rules.
Honey, total parody. That is my father in the middle. They had a gospel show every Saturday night when I was growing up. He was the sound/technician guy and this was their silly song. That great man just died last month at 92. I love watching this. It’s my Daddy.
Great, so according to these folks if I don't cut my hair I am considered in the same category as a murderer. Wonderful. People thousands of years ago wore long hair and probably biblical figures to. Samson had long hair and it was good.
Who else found this absolute gem bc of Billy Strings??? Lol 😆
Yep. There!
You'll live a life of fear and dread if your listening to the Grateful Dead.
Me!!
He has led me to many great old jams. Billy Strings!! Woohoo!!!
Yep
I had lost the cassette that had the whole comedy show that this was originally on and am so glad to hear it again. I sing it to friends in church and try to convince them that I used sing it in church when I was younger.
So it's all a joke in this instance?
onelifetolive927 Yes. It's from a comedy routine several years ago.
I found the actual *record* in a used goods store in Idaho, and it is one of my most treasured possessions. I had first heard it way way back in the early 80s and laughed through the entire song. (They played it on KBRT in Southern California.)
Maybe the greatest thing I've heard in ten or more years. Eleven years, easily, yes.
If your Hair is long there IS sin in your heart. If your hair is short there is sin in your heart. Where can I find that other song?

Nice spoof, must have had alot of fun singing that with what looks like most of them having hair down to their ears. The forerunners of Tim Hawkins.
Anyone here after hearing the Billy Strings version? hahaha
Yes grateful dead line got me😅
Happy heavenly anniversary Daddy. We miss you. Mom the most
I know the guy who wrote this and the group who sang it originally. They are great folks who have a great since of humor.

We miss you uncle Bobby!
Tasty jams. "We're real excited about what the lord is doin' for us right now. he's got the videahh cassette setup for y'all tonight"
I'm more horrified by their indecision of a key to follow.
Where was this?
God looks in the heart. It's not about your hair being to long or too short. Thank you Jesus for looking in the heart.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Omg!!!!! I've been looking for this! I had the audio forever! And lost it! LOLOL do you have any other songs?????
I would love to know who wrote this. It's a classic.
Awesome

great piano
am I the only one to notice that the people singing about hair on your ears have hair on their ears?
Hmmm...I should learn and perform sometime, what a gas that would be.
Do people actually think that is true, I'm confused
Best part is the bassist sitting one out
If I got a haircut I wouldn't be TRVE KVLT enough for Black Metal anymore.
Are you the original artists of this song? Do you know "Heaven Yes, Hell No"?

Glad to know the "off key, out of tune" singing was part of the comedy! lol

whose here because of The Meeting House?
"Who's" here because they failed english?
It's a satirical song poking fun a legalism. Get free! The length of you hair doesn't determine whether you can saved.

Excellent tribute to the "Wahabs" - I also have a copy of the whole original (comedy) album that included this song.
Wow, this has to be a staged comedy routine, but if this is for real 😳 it's times like this that I Thank God I'm an atheist lol ..but the MC said this was in Shreveport, does anyone know where exactly ?
Such a funny song!!! Thanks to our friend Bobby Davidson for singing a great part! Love you!
That was my Daddy. I love seeing this.
Was this serious?
No. Some people take it seriously though and it's distasteful.

Obviously "Tone" and "Key Signatures" were not a requirement for this particular performance. Yikes!
Oh no mine is way too long
Really?
Hopefully it is irony. Gotta be a joke. Those young folks have 70’s hair past their ears.
I always thought this song was a hole but it kinda seems serious now. Um....
Lol, if only these people back then realized that the Biblical heroes, including Jesus Himself, likely had long hair. Sampson definitely did, as he was a Nazirite.

Head shaving music.
Looks like most of the men on stage has hair over their ears !
Their hair does seem to be on their ears though. More double standards.
I hope this is a joke!!!!
From 1979 when that was the prevailing thought among a lot of evangelicals. Thank goodness that changed!
It is.
So I'm guessing these people don't know about Jesus and Samson! 🤔
its a joke lol
I wear my hair in a crew cut and I'm bisexual and smoke pot every chance I get
I hope this was just a song for fun.lol
From 1979 when that was the prevailing thought among a lot of evangelicals. Thank goodness that changed!

a few of the bandmembers have some long hair. You can get say with long hair, but you cannot remain saved with long hair. We must live holy
Except.....no....NOT! Holiness can not be measured with a ruler. Ridiculous. So glad Jesus IS the plumb line and NOT religious institutions and their arbitrary rules.
haha
This is obviously parody. Chill out.
Horrible. I sincerely hope they were joking. What a shameful disgrace to the Grace that Jesus has given us.
Legalism is not of God.
It is a joke.
1. They have hair on their ears.
2. Jesus didn't tell the rich young ruler he needed a haircut.
Those were the big clues
