I am a musician. Some things you shared made me curious so I researched geese and mating. The concensus seemed to be that geese choose a mate for life. Importantly, they need to choose each other. I suspect that Mumbles and Dabbles are an incompatible pair and need to divorce. If you could let Mumbles meet a group of drakes and choose that is the way in nature.

It’s a good suggestion but it’s also making double the work load. Hopefully he’ll pick a size/breed when ordering ducklings & the Peakin ducks will age out. They don’t live as long as other breeds because they’re bred for meat instead of eggs
I've been noticing that.. I only have the one drake and I don't want to put him alone. I will be changing him out for a smaller drake that will be able to actually fertilize the eggs to hatch next year. Everyday we learn more.

Why dont you get a Livestock Guardian dog? Echo isnt protecting the animals, hes protecting you unless you say something. Hes a Wonderful boy but you need a dog that stays outside 24/7 and just hangs w the animals
That's just not necessary, just for cost, a dog is more expensive than my whole flock, and the added maintenance. A lgd wouldn't have much to do here honestly. If I had more land then I would consider it more.
Common sense, and using common sense • •• I am understanding that there's no reason one can give for leaving this obviously 'targeted' little helpless duck to such a horrible fate...knowing what the problem likely was, the absolute responsibility 'animal management' owes is protective oversight, and keeping this little girl out of harms way should have been 1st priority. This drake was allowed to mate her to death. Just horrific.
Totally agreed I was also outrageous that he didn’t isolate that poor soul from the Drake and prioritised his other work first I also have ducks and I think the same as you . Whenever I’m having a sick duck first thing I do is to isolate them and give them proper medication and find out that what’s the matter that lead them to this ! Mating of ducks can be the worst for small size ducks ! I hope the owner learns something from this ! Honestly I never expected this type of behaviour from him hope so in future when he sees this type of drake’s behaviour with ducks he will not waste a single second and will keep the drakes away from the ducks ! Cause I have a drake and he still tries to mate with ducks even if they are broody!!! They are just horrible sometimes!
Separate them take the white ones away from them they're too heavy for them I had the same problem with that The white ones are a whole lot heavier and hurt them
Its only one male, the white females don't bother the others, but that may be what I do with the drake. I'm only keeping the white ones until i get another batch raised up to replace the eggs im getting.
that's sad about Margee, but what do you think killed Chicken?, do you have foxes over there, although they would probably take the food away, as would a hawk I think. Was your brothers dog over visiting that day? 🤔🤭 ...only joking 😬 love your videos, thanks for sharing them 👍
My best guess would be the stray cats around, like you said a fox would take her, a hawk would have got her in the open, not under the gate. And my brothers dog would have made a bigger mess and brought her to the house. Echopup got a stray cat that same morning and I saw another around, so I have a live trap set now to try and nab them before the younger chicks go out.
