Lindy Fralin is the epitome of the small-shop music craftsman. In the early 90's, he got into making pickups because he couldn't find anything on the market that sounded quite right. Fralin Pickups now have a reputation as some of the most musical and precise pickups on the market. The Vintage Hot pickup set is their most popular set, and it's easy to hear why. Wound with 42 gauge Heavy Formvar wire ( just like the original single coils from California! ) the neck and middle pickups are average 50's specs, while the bridge pickup is a tad hotter. We're impressed that Lindy Fralin managed to make a hot single coil bridge pickup that never gives you the icepick in the forehead tone. You'll find yourself ignoring those middle position settings much less - these single coils make every pickup position usable and unique. The best part of a Strat is the way it picks up subtle nuances and these pickups deliver clarity on each and every note. This is a great set of pickups that'll turn an average guitar into an outstanding guitar.

I've got some coming tomorrow for a new build and have been recommended these by a reliable old rock band guitarist with a million miles on the clock. Thanks for the demo and please ignore replies by the inevitable basement dwellers who have only ever seen guitars in videos.

These sound real sweet on the 50's 60's style playing, a couple of questions how noisy are they and how do they compare with the original stock N3 (?) noiseless pups from clean to dirty.
    Thanks

would have been cool to see how they sound when compared with the stock ones...

I'm thinking on changing my stock pickups and it's truly surprising that you cannot find videos of a comparison, it's only logic to compare the before and after, even if it's brief. I have no idea why they don't do it.

Hmm. I've been looking for some new pickups for my Strat and have tried many. I have Fralin Pickups in my Tele and love them but never thought about Fralin's for my Strat.

Great demo ! Just got an HAAR Stratocaster with Suhr ML pickups..Sounds awesome but look for a warmer neck pickup ( I remember the Fat 50 I had on a Stratocaster years ago..!). Which set is warmer , bassier ? Vintage hot or Texas ? Another model or brand ? Thanks for your answer, best regards from France

Seems to be a lot of disagreement around those dirty tones. I'll respectfully sit down in the "yes-booth" because all of the tones kicked ass!

I coudn't here the difference when he swtiched to all pickups with the drive pedal on...it doesn't sound clear AT ALL. Where's the "juice"? That sweet and rough pickup tone from Fender? Its a bad glassy tone. Maybe it's the amp...but i don't think so. Respect to the guitar player, he's a good one. I wish you all a Happy New Year!

Demo starts at 1:45. Before that it's nothing but blah blah blah. Sounds like loose parts rattling in the amp though. And maybe some empty glass bottles rattling in the bottom of the cab.

That has to be the shitty amp because the Fralins I have had in my Strat for 20 years sound NOTHING like that mess.

  • @fivepiece

When the demo skips over the clean middle and clean bridge tones, all I can think is they must suck.

  • @davidmcdonnough
    @davidmcdonnough 10 років тому

The distorted sound seems to be really disbursed and granular. The sweetness seems to be broken-up and flattened with white noise. Having use the Zexcoil, particularly the Juicybucker in the bridge position, it is easy to become spoiled by the rich, sweet, penetrating way the Zexcoil harnesses the waves in the dirty channel.

started out great with the install discussion and then who is this player and the amp? Ugh..cant tell how good or bad these pickups are..These demos should be performed by a competent player with an amp that is crystal clean and organic (hand wired all tube) - Crank up the gain on the amp he says? Brutal - try a hand wired fender or marshall. Sorry to be harsh my friend.

Sounds like such a mess, to be honest. There are Aliexpress pickups that sound much better when pushed.

  • @ronaldgoebel2174

I didn't like them at all clean or driven. Sterile, too bright and no mids at all! Never have liked them in any guitar I have heard them in. Always looking for different sounds but I'll stick with Seymour Duncan California '50's. Way better balance and character of the old 50's strats. Fralin's just don't cut the mustard for my taste.

Sorry but thy are dry sounding and un-responsive,.....on a bar stage it is crucial to have a guitar amp combo that rings-out a chime like quality
THIS DEMO DID NOT DELIVER go listen to a set of bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/pickups.php?cat=strats
