    We are big supporters of Etsy's improvements. They are doing a marvelous job at setting new parameters to give the customer a better experience. Love that they have been closing inactive shops and cracking down on blatant copyright/trademark violators. Etsy is looking less and less like a garage sale. The $15 startup fee doesn't seem like much, but it is a lot for foreign shop owners that had been in the habit of opening multiple shops a day and stealing designs from honest shops. Hats off, Etsy.

    Thanks, Cassiy, for all that you do! I enjoy being part of your POD Roadmap course and am always amazed at how much support you provide our group! Yes, I guess people can build a business without a course, but the support I personally have received has encouraged me to continue when I may have otherwise tossed in the towel. I know that my business has grown faster because of the lessons learned through the course. There are so many perks....my newest "favorite are the trend reports! They are amazing! YES!! Beware of the Economy shipping!! They send via DHL and it takes 10-12 days, not 5-8 as advertised! We view Printify 100% as a partner, so we have shared this info with them, so that they can improve the Economy shipping option.

    Thanks Cassiy for these updates. Very helpful. For anyone thinking about signing up for the POD Roadmap, I highly recommend it. I am brand new to print on demand and her coaching POD Road Map is a game changer. I found all the courses to be very well organized, easy to understand, and if you are like me and need to re-watch it, guess what, you can. I find myself referencing back to her courses often. Let’s go!!! You are killing it. That’s so close to when I hit 1000 sales in my store. Once you get the momentum you have, crazy stuff is going to happen 🔥 I would set a goal of putting up a few hundred listings for Halloween and maybe even up to 500 for Christmas and it is going to be crazy for you!
      Before that, personalized stuff and group orders for this spring/summer can be game changers! Just saw some custom mom/dad shirts that are getting 60-80 orders per DAY right now with Mother’s Day and Father’s Day coming up 😍
      I’m rooting for you so come back and let me know how things are going for you throughout the year!

    I love your channel! So informative!
    I am about to open my Etsy shop and was wondering if it would be better to use my account that I have used to buy items for the past 12 years or start a new account instead. I wasn’t sure what was better since it sounds like new accounts are being suspended but I also heard that Etsy tries to help new accounts/sellers by giving them a boost and it doesn’t look good to have an account open for a long time and no sales?. Seems like I will be paying $15 either way but I wanted to make the right choice.

    Not sure if this has already been said in the comments regarding creating multiple art boards in Kittl, but I’ve been duplicating them by right clicking on the art board number at the top, choosing copy, and then going to the empty space next to the art board and choosing paste. Then you can delete anything that you don’t want duplicated, or you can obviously, keep it duplicated and change it in any way that you want to make scalable designs. I hope this is helpful.

    I recently opened my shop, I have a question on pricing. When I look at the cost + shipping and fee's to set the price there is no way I can offer a shirt for some of the prices I see for similar items. I do not understand how a shirt can be 8.99 or 12.99 when the cost of the shirt allow is 10. Are others selling at a loss? I know that I can join Printify for a lower shirt cost but even then I could not retail for what I see others doing. Any insight on this would be wonderful. How do I cut cost so I can have competitive pricing? I absolutely love all your post and it is so encouraging. Thanks for all you do!

    Hi Cassiy! Thanks for the updates. I noticed there are so many AI’s on Etsy and they clearly do not represent the product! I’m trying to find real models. Is there a way to filter? Right now I’m going through so many individual items to try and find real products. I wouldn’t find the AI people if the product actually looked real.

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  15 днів тому +1

      I have never tried selling in person before but in theory you could order quite a few of your own items directly on Printify and then sell them in person! Most local suppliers I have found cost more than Printify does, so unless you want to get into printing them yourself then you could give that a try if you wanted!

    Hi Cassiy, I am terrified of bad reviews at the beginning of my shop's startup. I had friends who wanted to support me and ordered from my shop, but my first sales had issues like bad prints and lost items. If your first orders get a bad review, isn't your shop then doomed to face more challenges in getting started (I use Printify)? Did you ever experience something like this in the beginning of your journey? Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all this questions!

  • @janedarc7731
    @janedarc7731 17 днів тому

    I love your channel and never miss a video!! I’m hoping for some clarification… I have a brand new shop with an almost nonexistent budget to buy a ton of samples, so I’ve bought a few whole shop mockup bundles on Etsy. Are they all useless, now?
    I’m super persnickety about choosing a mockup for my designs, for the very reasons you stated. For example, many of the t-shirt mockups out there for specific t-shirts, aren’t even close to what the actual t-shirt looks like (the sleeves are too long or short, the neckline is off, the texture is missing, the cut and color is off, etc.). So I end up only finding a handful from each bundle that I can use, and usually stick to the most realistic flat, hanging, or no model options.
    I even created a few myself, using AI, which took a hundred or more rolls to get the aforementioned details right. I then spent another few hours on Photoshop for each of them, often correcting any flaws (AI weirdness), pixel by pixel. And all that’s before I spend the time to place my design on the mockup, again using photoshop and Illustrator to get everything as realistic as possible. So I go to great lengths to only use mockups that truly represent what the customer will receive.
    Is this still a no-no? Or, is this new rule really mostly speaking to the sellers who don’t bother to make sure that their mockups represent the actual product they’re selling? Because, in fairness, I’ve noticed a sea of listings on Etsy which break every one of my persnickety rules- the design isn’t sized or placed properly, the color is way off, the item in the mockup doesn’t represent the specific product, and most cringe of all, a design that seems to be flat and floating way above the item itself.🤯😂

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  17 днів тому +1

      If you think the mocks you are using accurately represent the product then you are good, but not everyone will jump through the hoops you have! I usually just buy my mockups on a one time basis to really curate just the best of the best personally but have bought plenty of whole shop bundles I'll never use as well, welcome to the mockup addict club LOL

    Question I noticed a lot of Etsy Seller on UA-cam promoting making the size 5000 x 5000 on Canva to have better quality but when I resize it to 5000 from what it’s supposed to be on print on demand, the whole design gets ruined now is it best to make the exact size from print on demand or uploading it with the 5000 x 5000 because then I have to redo my design

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  17 днів тому

      I think you can do the size the product recommends for things like shirts and such but some other products you may need to make it larger but maybe in a better proportion to the size of the design, like if you are designing for a rectangle, then maybe just make a bigger version of what's needed for the design. As long as it say "high quality" for the file when you upload it to Prettify though then you are good! So try the actual size that Printify recommends and see how it is!

      I have had lots of people ask over the years and I almost always say no because I don't want people selling it online as well. The one time I said yes was because they wanted it for a Bach party that weekend and I couldn't get shirts delivered to her in time so she made them herself. You would definitely need to be clear that it was for personal use only and not commercial use.

I would say though that if you could combine your POD store into your physical store, it may be better than starting completely from scratch.

    I am trying to figure out how to create some political type items. But maybe on the line of cross niching with that theme. I realized I really don't understand what's allowed and what's not. For instance, people have told me that flags are okay to use. But why wouldn't for example the American flag be Copyrighted or Trademarked. I see it inside fonts, as. Background, etc... Is it really alright to use the flag, the colors, etc. Also, someone suggested listening to the speeches and taking anything funny and creating something around it. How do we know for sure those lines will not be Copyrighted. For example, years ago when daddy Bush was president there was a saying he did in his speech that really was out there for years. It was something like "Read my lips no more taxes". Or something like that. I've heard it so much I really tried to forget it. But at least part of it stuck even after all these years. My question is, wouldn't that be Copyrighted and not able to be used. How about the Trump and Biden flags people are selling and people are buying to put in their yards 3" X 5" size. Thanks for any response.

      Please provide your source. Using the Printify/Printful mockups of a shirt is no different than one made by an independent mockup shop. Each one is just a picture of the product, not the actual product the customer will receive. It literally makes no difference and Etsy as a multi billion dollar company must understand that.

    • @hushpuppy7694
      @hushpuppy7694 19 днів тому +1

      Actually, in one of Etsy's last Q&A's, they mentioned that there was a mockup confusion going on.
      This is copied from Etsy's policies
      "Items made with production partners.
      If an item is created with production assistance, the listing’s photos should be of the finished product or an image supplied by the production partner that accurately depicts the item the buyer will be receiving. Sellers are responsible for ensuring that these images properly represent their finished items."
      You are allowed to use other mockup photos other than the printing provider (Printify, Printiful, etc), but you must make sure it is the same product.
      If you're using a Balla Canvas, then your mockups must be Balla Canvas, not another brand of shirt.
      So whatever product you are selling, just make sure the mockup is the same product you are selling. Hopefully, this helps with any confusion.

    • @CassiyJohnson
      @CassiyJohnson  19 днів тому +1

      I did cover the mockups issue, here's the link to that time stamp. This was confirmed by Etsy that you CAN use mockups, they just have to accurately represent the products. ua-cam.com/video/hzbyxs7Y9sk/v-deo.htmlsi=GC7bQNI4-XIxgimm&t=639

    I really want Etsy to let us select which listings we want to allow gift messages for. I want to use this feature so bad but I sell more than just tshirts and not all print providers offer gift messaging. So it sucks that I can’t use the feature at all. Alternatively, Printify should require print providers offer this service in order to be listed on their platform. This is desperately lacking. POD gets a bad name sometimes because it’s limited in customer experience. It’s so transactional and everyone would benefit so much by having more personable branding and customer service options - I’d even pay more for it.

    This is just a blatant cash grab. The COULD charge the $15 startup fee to help curtail scammers and then credit/refund it when the shop reached XXX dollars in revenue and/or been on Etsy for XXX amount of time. Do they give the money back eventually? NO! They make a ton of money as it is and all the other 'improvements' should already be built into their cost of doing business. Let's not forget, this startup fee applies to ANY new shop, even for people that have had existing shops for years and want to open another. Just another example of corporate greed.
    Also, if they close your shop and the appeals don't work, contact your credit card and have the charge removed. You're paying to have a store on there, not to have them scam you out of money.
