So many different messages one can take fron this story. Mostly people view it through the lens of racism, but those of classism, fashion, and personal identity are equally valid. And behind it all is the message to beware the charismatic person who says he can solve all your problems, as he's most likely just after your money. Thanks for posting, you have a lovely reading voice!
Gotta admire McBean's intelligence in this story. He found out how stupid the Sneetches are and decided to take advantage of it. There were plenty of clues on how stupid their conflict was but the Sneetches just kept giving McBean their money. For example, as soon as McBean told the Plain-Bellies that they could have a star on them for just 3 bucks, they could've been like "Wow, a Star-Belly is only worth three dollas? Guess all them Star-Belly Sneetches weren't all they were cracked up to be." and just walked away. Instead, they took the bait and McBean made McBank.
I now have a theory that McBean was the cause of their silly conflict to begin with. He offered a choice few of Sneetches a chance to be better the rest by giving them stars on their bellies and this caused those Star-Belly Sneetches to think they were above those without stars and the pride instantly went to their heads, treating the Plain-Bellies as second-rate.
This is a pretty good book to teach elementary kids how to tolerate others for their differences instead of banning books that have this kind of content. Like I just graduated last year but my old teacher spoke out on the school district banning to kill a mockingbird but they allowed a noval written by hitler in the library and he got fired because of it.
The 1973 TV adaptation was part of a half hour TV Special called Dr. Seuss On The Loose. "Sneetches in the first segment, followed by The Zax, then finally Green Eggs and Ham. All three cartoons are faithful to the books from which they were adapted.
This story taught us moral lessons, how people can become too preoccupied with their appearance and social class, and how this can distract what's really important. In other words, curb your self importance and don't always judge other people by their appearance just because they're different. McBean was being an example of corporations profiting off of discrimination by telling both the Star-Belly and the Plain-Belly Sneetches exactly what they wanted to hear just to cheat them out of their hard-earned money with something that didn't really do anything for them at all, but just made things much worse than they already had been.
Media telling about the poor predicament lawyers defending their predicament and the doctors changing their predicament. When there was no predicament at all.
I remembered The Sneetches quite recently and then Silvester McMonkey McBean came up and I was like: "Ayo, that dude was a grifter." He didn't care about fixing this conflict whatsoever, he just wanted to make money by riling them up and then running off.

@@MrsMorrisReads Oh yes, it is. Try ordering it on Amazon. Amazon says Dr. Seuss Publishing has cancelled it. The one book that deals with racism in a way a young kid can understand.

This is one of my favorite Dr. Seuss stories along with Green Eggs and Ham, Hop on Pop, Ten Apples Up on Top, and The Cat in the Hat Comes Back.
those are all good ones! the sneetches are def my fav
My favorite moments are the frankfurter parties, and when all of the Sneetches forgot about whether they had stars or not, and became friends.
yes. very good moral
