Thank you so much for doing a piece on the Mordians. They remind me of my cousin's old regiment, the US 3rd Inf "Old Guard": yes, they're picked in part for height and do formal drill and ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier & such... but there's also a particular intelligence requirement and they guard the Pentagon. It was wise of Al-Queda to not try a ground assault.

The Iron Guard have been an example of discipline and control as they will never break out of formation or their morale as proven on numberless battles and wars throughout their service within the Imperium. They may look like toy soldiers who are dressed for a parade rather than the brutal war zones of the Galaxy, but in truth they use this image to confused their enemies and reveal that they are just as effective as any Guard Regiment, and they are known for beating traitors space marines in battles without them breaking at all.
Thank you baldy, i have been here since the start and you have given me strength in my own times of grimdark. Best friends death, heroin addiction, homelessness. @@stillcantbesilencedevennow I think the original comparison to the USMC is the most accurate, especially when you take the mental aspects into account. The USMC isn't necessary, it only exists because of its reputation. There was even a period of time when the Corps was disbanded. Just like the Mordians, the USMC is reliant on reputation to stay alive, the difference being one fights for their world not being dropped and the other their Corps not being dropped. On top of that, a lot of the imagery is almost a carbon copy of USMC recruitment posters, especially from around WWI-WWII. The Corps is also famous for its urban operations particularly from Vietnam into modern campaigns (think Fallujah). The only real differences I saw between the Mordians and the Corps was that Marines are also famous for their initiative, thinking for themselves, so the point on them not moving even while being flanked sounded much more like cold war Russian doctrine, or perhaps doctrine from the Napoleonic era, everything else though perfectly matched the history and mindset of the USMC.
How very similar, and yet very different they are from Kriegers. The physical, "starvation" and the spiritual, "redemption" as motivators. One could also say "love" and "devotion" to the Emperor vs "pride" and "reputation" of the Regiment. As a Krieger, I could just see/feel the tension in the shared trench! 😁 Love this, as always! Thank you so much!
Iron Guard will willingly die, Kriegers will gladly die. It's a subtle difference on paper, but it drastically changes their approach to war on both a tactical and individual level.
@@screamingcactus1753 There is also the difference that kriegers take individual initiative meanwhile the Iron guardians is reliant on orders. one of the reasons the latter doesnt get grenades as standart issue. But they do have a neat lasgun overcharge setting that is more potent than the average.
This is like confusing Patrick Bateman for Marcus Halbestram from American Psycho... Of course the Kriegers are good at the same things and shop for uniforms at the same store, but Mordian's have slightly better haircuts..... 😂
The Mordian Iron Guard is the thin blue line that holds back the darkness. Don't let their snappy dress uniforms fool you, they are HARD and they kill without mercy and without pause and they do it while marching in perfect lockstep.

I do make time for fun, every day when I listen to your inspiring works of art. Thank you very much for sharing these masterful pieces of literature you passionately toil to create.
Thank YOU brother Smith. A lot. Thank you for taking the hint and looking after yourself. Always make time for you. Full stop. A lion can only defend his pride if he has power. Sorry to rabbit on. Merry Christmas brother Smith. *bows to brother Smith*
There is a short scene with the Iron Guard in, I think, one of the Gaunts Ghosts novels where an infantry regiment marched out onto the battlefield during a siege as if it was a parade ground, ignoring every one of them that got show down, before perfectly lining up to return volley fire.
@@MrMLaidlaw I could be wrong as I don't know much about them, but it could be the Vostroyan First Born. They come from the only forge world in the Imperium required to deliver regiments to the Imperial guard as punishment for transgressions during the Horus Heresy, and as a result have some of the most advanced equipment in the organization.
What always really grabbed me about the mig what's having all of the artwork where they were in hellishly desperate situations executing their drill in the face of on rushing horror, the juxtaposition of their snappy uniforms to like their hideously scarred broken tooth battle Haggard features. When I was a little kid I saw the snappy uniforms and just thought that they were another hoity-toity exemplar combat unit as like an archetype.. but they want to start to understand their lore and the brutal reality that is exemplified in their garb and actions I really started to get 40K as a grim dark universe
This, along with the video about the Vostroyan firstborn, are amongst my favourite works you have done. The way in which you manage to portray the mentality and so vividly paint the picture with your narration alone is truely wonderful. Great job once again.
Remember reading about a group of Mordians that got backed up in a seemingly impossible assault on an enemy fortress by a trio of Blood Angel astartes. When one Mordian questioned would three be enough, one of the Blood Angels was enraged that the guardsman would question him and warned him he'd be back 'after' they took the fort. Sure enough, back he came and basically stood in front of the Mordian who just stared him down until the Blood Angel gives a surly 'For the Emperor' then buggers off. Standing your ground against a touchy pissed off 8 foot tall superhuman vampire in power armor with only your guts and some fancy epaulettes....now that's soldiering!
Well isn't this quite the christmas gift? Thank you for the great video,as always Bald its a pleasure to see your improvement, give our pride and joy to the rest of the team. Miss B,light bringer and the rest. Other than that I hope you have a great day!
Uncle Balders, you should do one on the Crusade of Iron which followed the liberation of Mordia by the Iron Hands and their successors to finally clean up the Mordian system. ✌️
@@Baldermort I'll send you a message via Patreon. I know somewhat about the lore for the Crusade of Iron, but not too much detail, and never with your voice of a respectable Imperial servant 😂👍
I'm almost offended you felt you needed to remind me who you are brother Blue Buda. :) I recall those early conversations. You were the one who said we would get larger than Wolf Lord Rho, and you wake with the crack of dawn to provide food for all around you. Hard work, done well I would imagine. :) Farming - not for the weak. Thank you for all of your kindness, advice and support over the years. If I ever come anywhere near your locale I owe you a fair few pints. :)
@@Baldermort well you definitely wouldn't have offended me I can't believe you remember who I am at all that's a crazy memory you got on you. I took a little break from 40K but I'm starting to get back into it again. And this is the first place I went looking
As always, what a fun finish for a fine friday. And this is a regiment I hadn't heard of yet (though as a Kraut, I did chuckle at Hermann Wolfram, can't be helped). Thanks for enlightening us once again and the happiest of holidays to you.
I sincerely hope you do an episode on the maccabian jannissaries at some point. They're such a cool faction aesthetically that just doesnt have enough on them, so even one of your little fan stories you do would make me super happy as a fan of an unfortunately little used guard regiment.
Good that they did not claim to have heads of Iron, e.g.: *”I am Iron-Head, and I rule my den.”* Note that speaking thusly means one is a Witch to be reckoned with - much as if the man or woman in question were a sold-out devotee of Chaos Undivided.
Bravo again, good man! You have brought another of the regiments of the Imperial Guard to life with your superb storytelling and narration. Had you not so graced the Death Korps of Krieg earlier, I would be profoundly jealous of the Mordian Iron Guard getting such a gift of words. Have your encountered a channel called Mordian Glory? It's geared towards playing the Guard in 40k, and the channel host is particularly fond of the Mordian Iron Guard. I will be sure to mention this video in their channel.
You are very welcome. I'm a fan of all of your channels and I love the way you and Lightbringer retell the Greek myths. And your work at GK Natural History is awesome. Love me some dinosaurs 🦖🦕

So the Pretty Peacocks have got a backbone pretty damn hardcore standing up to chaos like they did, I have new found respect. Great tale telling Baldermort!
Jeremy Jahns brought me here. I've heard about 40k but know nothing of it. The Cavill news has me interested in the lore now. Side note , Jeremy is right , your voice is God tier. 😂😂
Love your method of story telling it's truly impressive. I'm working my way through your back catalog and I'm loving it but dreading finishing the time when I've got no new videos to watch. Keep up the good work brother baldermort
I've always thought the planet was called Mordia and the people/regiment were Mordians because they came from there. Never occurred to me the planet was called Mordian haha.
Henry Cavill signing as Executive Producer and star of a new Warhammer 40K series. I know it's Amazon but... It's HC. Edit- any chance we could have Uncle Baldy as a contributing writer/narrator for it?

Hello you wonderful wonderful Loremaster, I am new member of this page. One the many who will stumble upon it due to a certain movie reviewer. Now, this content is fantastic, your voice, the writing... I cannot wait to begin binging all these videos. However I know nothing of Warhammer 40k. Nothing. So, is there a video you recommend for new viewers or for new members of your channel. An introduction to the page that explains what kind of content you'll be making or a quick 101 guide to Warhammer for the average newbie. Thank you ( I've only listened to like 3 videos but goodness me... I'm blown away.)
I always enjoy when you make videos on specific imperal guard regiments the Mordian iron guard are one of the best out there. Great video as always Brother B
Cavill should consider hiring you as a narrator, or maybe even writer for that upcoming Warhammer 40K series of his. ...Could also be a perfect fit to voice an Astartes chaplain.
Havnt seen the clip yet but you already made my day baldy!!! I have a mordian army and had to buy models from all over the world. From mexico to australia, the UK and spain just to name a few locations. Screw cadia! Mordian glory is the only real glory
Thank you for all the work and care you put into all this baldi. You are the cherry on top the cream. Stay healthy in the next year and remember, the emperor protects.
Cadian, Krieg, Armageddon steel legion and Catachan:"Parade uniforms provide no tactical advantage whatsoever " Mordian: "You guys are just mad that we got all these drip."
Friday night is uncle Baldy treating us all once again, and tonight it's the Mordian Iron Guard, now this is another example of the Imperiums vast diverse fighting formations. Just to confuse the enemies of the Emperor of course, thank you uncle Baldy, after crappy week this is just what many of us need. I also caught the announcement concerning WH and their possible TV/movie adaptions concerning Henry Cavill, do you have an opinion on this too?
Thanks brother. Erm. My opinion is worth no more than anyone else’s. Im quietly confident it will be amazing. But we need to support the Cavill not stress the Cavill. That’s it. Honestly, I trust him. :)
Never played Warhammer, never read any books, don't know any of the story, but I'm subscribing just for the voice, and in case I want to learn about this once Henry Cavill has hinted he might be in the works of a Warhammer movie or series (according to Jeremy Jahns, who was also the one directing me to this channel in the first place). Sidenote: I've never listened to an audio book (prefer reading it myself) but a book read by Baldermort, I might consider.
Considering that the Iron Guard's doctine and tactics are extremely rigid and inflexible, so just as crucial as their strength of skill and will, is the competence and acumen of their commanding officers.

Listenin as i get my cardio in. Thank u Baldermort!!
Thank you for another guardsmen story! Their always my favorite.
Thank you for all of your generosity brother.
*bows to brother Trejo*
“More a punishment than a point of origin, it is a accursed place…” I love this line Brother Baldermort! Makes me think of my native Bosnia
Jeremy Jahns just shouted you out and linked it to the Henry Cavill news. New subscriber Sir!
The Emperor may protect, but your voice guides. Guides our gently listening souls to a light of calmness, community, and fun. oh benevolent Lord Baldy I heed your words.
@baldermort Merry Christmas Brother Baldy.
There is a short scene with the Iron Guard in, I think, one of the Gaunts Ghosts novels where an infantry regiment marched out onto the battlefield during a siege as if it was a parade ground, ignoring every one of them that got show down, before perfectly lining up to return volley fire.
Yeah that was a good book. Didn't they have a regiment of Guardsmen that had their officers using ancient power armour made for regular humans?
@@MrMLaidlaw I could be wrong as I don't know much about them, but it could be the Vostroyan First Born. They come from the only forge world in the Imperium required to deliver regiments to the Imperial guard as punishment for transgressions during the Horus Heresy, and as a result have some of the most advanced equipment in the organization.
My Friday bedtime story! These are perfect bedtime stories, they're incredibly relaxing and immersive
Ah another special Guard Lore video to start the weekend, what a treat!
Baldermort Protects!
Thanks for all your hard work n' Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas brother Alex. :).
*bows to brother Alex*
I just discovered this channel and community and I still am kinda in shock how fantastic and friendly this channel is you absolutely kick ass man.
A group I knew nothing of Brother Baldermort, brilliant preformed as always. As ever I leave entertained and informed. BBB! BBB ! Indeed 👍🇬🇧
Thanks brother. I hope you and Mrs Day have a great christmas. : ) :)
The Mordian Iron Guard, bringing indomitable drip to the 41st millennium in classic French fashion
Another amazing video! The Mordians are one of my favorite regiments!
One of my favourite. The heavy armed imperal laundry service.
Baldy! Got your new vid in the 1st 2 mins! Excitement fills my heart!
Great stuff Baldermort, I'm always enthralled by your reading of the Warhammer multiverse.
Thanks, be safe, and have an awesome holiday season.
Thank you brother Diarmuhnd. I hope you have a wonderful festive period as well. :)
This, along with the video about the Vostroyan firstborn, are amongst my favourite works you have done. The way in which you manage to portray the mentality and so vividly paint the picture with your narration alone is truely wonderful. Great job once again.
I am new to warhammer and I just love the way you talk about the lore it’s amazing keep up the great work love from Mexico 🇲🇽
I heard before them, there was the Bronze Guard, then Iron Guard. Then after, Steel Guard
Well isn't this quite the christmas gift? Thank you for the great video,as always Bald its a pleasure to see your improvement, give our pride and joy to the rest of the team. Miss B,light bringer and the rest. Other than that I hope you have a great day!
Thank ye muchly good sir. I hope you have a wonderful festive period brother Bouzou. :)
@@Baldermort Thank you,I'm honestly touched,have a great day Bald!
One of the first warhammer 40k book i ever read was one of the iron guard
Lore for the Lore God! Fluff for the Fluff Throne!
Excellent as always, good sir. Hope you and yours are doing well.
So excited for everyone that we get to see a big screen adaptation AND the executive producer is one of the biggest fans.
Always wanted to see a video on these guys! I pray one day we'll get one on the Praetorian guard lmao
Uncle Balders, you should do one on the Crusade of Iron which followed the liberation of Mordia by the Iron Hands and their successors to finally clean up the Mordian system. ✌️
This is true. Remind me after my break. We both know I'll forget. :)
@@Baldermort I'll send you a message via Patreon. I know somewhat about the lore for the Crusade of Iron, but not too much detail, and never with your voice of a respectable Imperial servant 😂👍
Dude you're almost up to 200,000 subscribers I was one of your first 100 congratulations buddy
I'm almost offended you felt you needed to remind me who you are brother Blue Buda. :)
I recall those early conversations.
@@Baldermort I'm not a drinker but if you make it to Ohio you can stop by and say hi
Thank you baldermort. Honestly. If havent told you before, thank you for everything you do.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😁
Thanks for listening brother Bong. ;)
For a moment I thought I clicked on Old Mans take. Thrilled to find your take!
Mordian glory will love this lore. Any chance of lore on the Necromundan guard. Especially the 8th spiders. My first guard army in 1989. 💯🕷️😊
Ahhh. Another long horn. Respect. :)
Last time I was this early Baldermort still had hair. Ah, good ol' Mort.
LOL!!!!!!
As always, what a fun finish for a fine friday.
And this is a regiment I hadn't heard of yet (though as a Kraut, I did chuckle at Hermann Wolfram, can't be helped). Thanks for enlightening us once again and the happiest of holidays to you.
This just makes me want new Mordian Iron Guard models, hell I know a guy who still uses his 3rd edition Mordian Army on tabletop
I've been waiting for this video for quite some time!
Hope you enjoyed it good sir.
@@Baldermort very much so, my good sir!
I sincerely hope you do an episode on the maccabian jannissaries at some point. They're such a cool faction aesthetically that just doesnt have enough on them, so even one of your little fan stories you do would make me super happy as a fan of an unfortunately little used guard regiment.
You said "Iron Within" and I sincerely smiled
Had to be done. :)
Good that they did not claim to have heads of Iron, e.g.:
*”I am Iron-Head, and I rule my den.”*
Note that speaking thusly means one is a Witch to be reckoned with - much as if the man or woman in question were a sold-out devotee of Chaos Undivided.
Mordian Guard are the House Atredies in style of Warhammer 40k
Another great video by the great Loremaster Sir Baldemort. Top notch video from a top notch fellow.
Thank you kindly
You are very welcome. I'm a fan of all of your channels and I love the way you and Lightbringer retell the Greek myths. And your work at GK Natural History is awesome. Love me some dinosaurs 🦖🦕
They say charging into one thousand Lasguns is a quick way to die.
Now try charging into one thousand Lasguns that all hit you with pinpoint accuracy at the exact same time...
Big ouch.
This is the best 40k channel by far. Narration is orders of magnitude above everything else. Congratulations, good sir.
Mordian iron guard makes me think someone at GW saw the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown soldier and was like "That's Lit"
Love your method of story telling it's truly impressive. I'm working my way through your back catalog and I'm loving it but dreading finishing the time when I've got no new videos to watch.
Keep up the good work brother baldermort
There no Elysian drop troops but I do like the Mordian Iron Guard
I've always thought the planet was called Mordia and the people/regiment were Mordians because they came from there. Never occurred to me the planet was called Mordian haha.
Love how mordian artwork always reminds me of my old DS and I immediately snap to attention lol
Henry Cavill signing as Executive Producer and star of a new Warhammer 40K series. I know it's Amazon but... It's HC.
Edit- any chance we could have Uncle Baldy as a contributing writer/narrator for it?
baldermort i am so happy too see ur channel coming up on 200k subs. i've been a fan ever since i think you had just 33k subs and the work and love you put into every episode is inspiring just like the mordian iron guard discipline and control. I cheers you baldermort for you are glory!
I know a certain IG centric UA-camr who's going to love this one.
Thank you , BM .
🐺
This narration is absolutely flawless. Masterfully done
I’m 100%sure this voice has let me know that MetLife has me covered for life’s un planned journeys or that the South African king penguins have a harsh and unforgiving journey on their way to breeding grounds… amazing narration!
Erm, nope. Never done ads not on my channel. One for Avalon hill?
You are thinking of some not me.
@@Baldermort I must have mistaken you for Morgan Freeman ;)
Hello you wonderful wonderful Loremaster,
I am new member of this page.
Same situation brother. If you want the skim or the general faction story try the exploring series UA-cam channel Warhammer lore.
GW really need to start reprinting the oldhammer minis. Maybe as a minimum order or something?
I'm currently building my IG army and watching this video made me go from wanting steel legion to iron guard in a heartbeat
I always enjoy when you make videos on specific imperal guard regiments the Mordian iron guard are one of the best out there. Great video as always Brother B
One of my favorite regiments, mostly due to their fashion sense and lore.
Great to listen to this as I cook dinner
Had this recommended to me. Great video and narration. Glad to sub.
Great Video as always
I love seeing lengthy videos on my favorite Imperial Guard regiment
You’re narration is just about the best I have had the pleasure to hear merry Christmas baldermort.
Always a great day when the guard gets some love
Lovely video to listen to while at the gym- thank you for another masterpiece
YEAS my favorite Regiment!
I love the guards many different regiments so many variations it's amazing
Thanks brother Rellek. A happy Christmas to you. :)
@@Baldermort Merry Christmas Brother ^_^
Cadian, Krieg, Armageddon steel legion and Catachan:"Parade uniforms provide no tactical advantage whatsoever "
Mordian: "You guys are just mad that we got all these drip."
One of my favorite legions. swag over functionality. 💯😤
Can tell from the fan art someone was a of fan general Sturn in winter assault.
10/10 quality video as always
@@Baldermort I didn't expect anything less from you uncle Baldy, now if only I could stick a heart emoji on your comment? lol
Digging the upgrade to your servitor skull buddy. Awesome! 😂👍🏻Keep up the good word. Big E protects and Cadia stands.
Thank you for making amazing content, never stop
Considering that the Iron Guard's doctine and tactics are extremely rigid and inflexible, so just as crucial as their strength of skill and will, is the competence and acumen of their commanding officers.
Wonderful video Sir. And Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Thanks brother Wabbit. The same to you and yours. : )
Excellent as always brother!
Mordian still stands!
I love the voice that you use for this video
