Yo this video is SO GOOD my guy. I love how you used after effects for the entire editing process, but for real, incredible work. Glad to have my face featured, also 😎
Super well edited and can't believe you made this in 24 hours, really awesome job! Also the fact you had a Unity game engine sponsor in a make you own game engine vid is hysterical lol. Let me know if you ever need another game dev in a future vid :)
Incredible video! The editing and storytelling are absolutely amazing :DD Honestly, I can’t wait for the next one- you’re improving so much with every upload!😄
I feel like you're getting this in the other way around. Don't get me wrong. I commend your work of making something from scratch. (Not a lot of developers these days see the value in those kinds of hard work anymore.) That being said, instead of "building an engine" and see if you can make a flappy bird game on top of it, maybe you should go with "Hey, let's make a flappy bird from scratch. And try to extract and refactor out as much reusable code as I can from that game, and see if I can build a pong next on top of that." Then you move on to a breakout, and a tetris, and a platformer, and so on and so forth. Over time, you'll slowly start to accumulate this pretty comprehensive collection of libraries that can adapt to a lot of scenarios you can imagine. THEN you can scream "I BUILT A GAME ENGINE! DEAL WITH IT!!" in all the nay-sayers faces. It'll still be a crappy engine. But it's still an engine you've built nonetheless. Be proud of it.
Such a good video man! I really like the pace and the jokes, they kept me entertained during the whole vid. I also cried a bit on the "sad 2.0" part, don't tell anyone please :(
I liked this vid! you got a sub!! On a production note, maybe stagger how many words are on screen for the 'one-word-after-another' bits?? It's comes a little fast, and that makes it hard to read. Overall though, great quality, great progress. Hope to see you do awesome!
@@n8dev oh nice just make sure it does compile for last gen consoles too, if u got any problems with Sony or MS tell me i know both CEOs personally, actually been married to their daughters..
You know what i hate about coding? When theres an error where i can just remove the line of code, but when i remove it, I NEED TO HAVE IT BACK, for it to “work” but then when i put it back, errors and then im just stuck in this infinite loop of trying to fix this error until i give up
I loved the video editing! It was really nice and the game end up really cute!! I would just point 1 thing that i think that could have been done differently and it was the ending that was too sudden. It kinda felt weird because end from no where. But otherwise it was a amazing video, loved it!
Hey, I loved your video! I'd love to see you do a code walkthrough for the engine, I've tried making my own but the ECS part confuses the heck out of me especially when trying to dynamically add systems.. Most papers I've seen on it utilize bitsets, queues, aliases and lots of other modern data types that make learning about it confusing as it feels like the focus is on the coding practice and not the concept. Can't wait to see your future content :))
The editing is really fun, although I do feel like it would be nice to go into more detail with how you made it, or at least just point the audience to some resources on where they could find the basics of this sort of thing properly explained, so it holds some more educational value.
Thanks! That’s totally a valid wish but is also definitely intentional. Pointing y’all to resources for you to learn is definitely something I can do going forward
This guy was really useful (although he used different bindings) and I also learned from general OpenGL tutorials in C++ ua-cam.com/video/GvJjuq63hyA/v-deo.html
Very nice work! I think writing an engine is considerably convenient for indie projects or projects where the time-budget allows for it. There are so many tools available now that writing a game on-top of a framework can honestly save significant time in the long-run and allow for more compelling functionalities in the framework of the title.
Can you make a video on how it works? Because I'm starting to learn JavaScript to build web games, but oh my gosh! The number of libraries there are and the amount of code, sometimes it's very difficult to get the character to do a single movement and then trying to connect that to the next one is exhausting, like Unity.
I love the circle animation, where did you find it and how do you make it look so good? (I've tried circling things before but it usually fails to look even somewhat good) (1:29)
I think the question of "Should I make a game engine?" Doesn't have a simple yes or no answer. What type of game are you making? Is it really intensive or is it something simple? If you want to, you should. People that say otherwise can't conceive something being done for fun and not in the most efficient way possible.
