Bruh i write how to make a game engine and get a fucking adventure video
LMAO
@@n8dev Seriously tho, how did u start? Did you use any libraries or anything?
wow, I had the same experience
same
@@darklord8793 hello nerd i stopped halfway through because of laziness, but allow me to impart my knowledge, which is really other people's knowledge: tutorials
here are some if u want to start:
ua-cam.com/video/JnGM1p2vsbE/v-deo.html&ab_channel=LaurenceCreates -long process of creating a game thing
ua-cam.com/video/LcHCygwIgLo/v-deo.html&ab_channel=danc -c# opengl tutorial, i think this is what n8 used but idk
ua-cam.com/video/0U-9ofLB22E/v-deo.html&ab_channel=danc -part 2 of video before
i also hope he does tutorials on this

This is facts
@@n8dev lol
Godot engine left the chat as well :(
unity be like
Unity left
Unity: "Oh, let's sponsor this guy he makes games in our engine"
n8dev: "I made my own game engine!"
LMAO you right
😳 *never gets another sponsor* (jk i hope u do. money is good)
its actually a genius plan, cuz he shows the torture of creating a game engine so people are less likely to make their own and use unity instead
@Rostitan *agagagagagaga*
*”unity left the chat”*
Pretty brave of Unity to sponsor their #1 competitor. Great stuff!
LMAO thank you
Whats unity? I use mirage engine
If u can't defeat them, sponsor them
Ha
"#1 competitor" definetly
Can’t help but notice N8 is only 2k away from 10k… (I’m referring to the fact that you should subscribe)

The simple idea of making a game engine from scratch is just too impressive for my tiny brain to comprehend.
Lmaooo thank you 🙏
Really like the editing! Can def tell a lot of effort was put in.
Thanks Kat :D
Editing is on point with this one. But unity's taking a huge risk sponsoring its competitor
Lmaoooo you're not wrong
Amazing effort, and good video quality. It's great to see how many more indie game developers are starting to make youtube videos.
🙏
Yo this video is SO GOOD my guy. I love how you used after effects for the entire editing process, but for real, incredible work. Glad to have my face featured, also 😎
😭😭😭Premiere + dynamic link is superior
Super well edited and can't believe you made this in 24 hours, really awesome job! Also the fact you had a Unity game engine sponsor in a make you own game engine vid is hysterical lol. Let me know if you ever need another game dev in a future vid :)
Thanks Tyler! Would definitely love to have you sometime 🤠🤠🤠
With the amount of issues you had i would have given up by now. I mean this is awesome and huge props to you!
Haha thanks - believe me I was close 😭
The sponsor for this video did not age well
Awesome video! That is super kool. Making a game engine is an achievement on itself. Kudos for doing that. Keep it up! :)
Thank you! :D
Incredible video! The editing and storytelling are absolutely amazing :DD
Honestly, I can’t wait for the next one- you’re improving so much with every upload!😄
Thank you so much! Looking forward to your next upload too 😉
How did I NOT know about this channel before!? This was fantastic! Keep up the good work
Thank you so much!
The editing and humour in this video is just on point! Really great vid Nate!
Thanks :D
The editing and Humor is on top !!! Missed you alot man glad you made a come back
Thanks
Fantastic to see you making your own engine! I don't understand why there is so much fear of trying this out in game development communities.
Yesss exactly - it’s so fulfilling
People fear about making a game engine 🤔. Its new news for me
this video is so good, you 're so underrated! i like the edit style, the memes and everything really. keep up the good work! btw i subbed ofc
Thank you so much 😁
n8dev: I’m going to make a game engine!
Unity: hellooo..
LMAO
Loved the editing in this video and now that I think of it, Mirage is a good name
Of course NOW you think that 🙄
I just discovered your channel recently, and I got to say, your content is super great!!!
Thank you!
i love his editing style! deserves more subs tbh
Thanks 😁
I loved the video editing! It was really nice and the game end up really cute!!
I would just point 1 thing that i think that could have been done differently and it was the ending that was too sudden. It kinda felt weird because end from no where. But otherwise it was a amazing video, loved it!
Thank you so much! The ending comes so suddenly because outros kinda kill retention haha
fun video to watch, and nice editing :) and its a cool game engine too lol
Thanks :)
Nice video bro it looks really good 👍 keep it up
Thanks!
The effort you put into editing this video alone deserves AT LEAST 82k more subs...
Thanks :D
Why not 83k
Hey, I loved your video! I'd love to see you do a code walkthrough for the engine, I've tried making my own but the ECS part confuses the heck out of me especially when trying to dynamically add systems.. Most papers I've seen on it utilize bitsets, queues, aliases and lots of other modern data types that make learning about it confusing as it feels like the focus is on the coding practice and not the concept. Can't wait to see your future content :))
Sure! Perhaps a livestream or second channel vid
I come from the land of devs that like penguins but masquerade as turkeys. Guap sounds cool for sure.
That sounds like a very interesting place
Such a good video man!
I really like the pace and the jokes, they kept me entertained during the whole vid. I also cried a bit on the "sad 2.0" part, don't tell anyone please :(
Haha thank you 😁
This video made it look so easy 😭😂
Great stuff tho I'm really suprised you were able to do it in just 24hrs, keep it up!
Thanks haha - I wish it was easy 😭
Really great video Nate! Definitely worth the wait :D
Thanks 😄
Access violation killed me for days, it turned out I needed to switch project to release
You’re joking…
THAT’S all I had to do???
Wow! This is awesome! Good job 👍
Thanks!
Great vid I love coding
And this was a very chilling thing to watch
love your work
love your style
myyy guyyyyy
thanks!
Dude I love your vids.
🙏🙏🙏🙏
great video!
Maybe you should make something like a challenge or jam but you need to use your engine
Thanks! I think that’s a cool idea
@@n8dev thanks for the thanks
This video and the everything is insane
🥶🥶🥶
@@n8dev Sorry lol my comments makes no sense, but the edit is insane, it's really how game dev video are enjoyable
"Guys im going to prove that i can be the next unity"
"Also heres our sponsor called unity"
Facts!
@@n8dev First time i see a youtuber respond to a new comment on a video from over 2 months ago :)
Yay another video
Yessir
I'm already growing some, Zucchini & squash.
Should I add some guap to my garden?
😭😭😭
You have the same background as me :) Great video!
Thank you!
I feel like you're getting this in the other way around. Don't get me wrong. I commend your work of making something from scratch. (Not a lot of developers these days see the value in those kinds of hard work anymore.)
That being said, instead of "building an engine" and see if you can make a flappy bird game on top of it, maybe you should go with "Hey, let's make a flappy bird from scratch. And try to extract and refactor out as much reusable code as I can from that game, and see if I can build a pong next on top of that."
Then you move on to a breakout, and a tetris, and a platformer, and so on and so forth.
Over time, you'll slowly start to accumulate this pretty comprehensive collection of libraries that can adapt to a lot of scenarios you can imagine. THEN you can scream "I BUILT A GAME ENGINE! DEAL WITH IT!!" in all the nay-sayers faces.
It'll still be a crappy engine. But it's still an engine you've built nonetheless. Be proud of it.
Well said
u did a engine called Guap, good job
I liked this vid! you got a sub!! On a production note, maybe stagger how many words are on screen for the 'one-word-after-another' bits?? It's comes a little fast, and that makes it hard to read. Overall though, great quality, great progress. Hope to see you do awesome!
Thanks for your thoughts! Always love getting feedback 😁
Wow that was really cool 👍🏻
Wow that was really cool
I'm going to stop making my game in Unity and swap to mirage immediately. Can it handle augmented reality yet?
Yeah it's only a few clicks to create a procedurally-generated open-world raytraced MMORPG
@@n8dev oh nice just make sure it does compile for last gen consoles too, if u got any problems with Sony or MS tell me i know both CEOs personally, actually been married to their daughters..
Best way to learn !
now im already requesting the engine branch already
Super great Video
Thank you 🙏
considering unity is now under fire, i think this video aged as a pretty good competitor... despite being sponsored by unity themselves :D
You should a follow up where you make a 3D engine of this :)
Good job for being able to achieve those results in such a short amount of time. Also is that an alienware x17? I have an x15
Thanks! Yeah it's an X17 haha - I love that laptop
the sponsor is funny because unity is a game engine and n8 is making a game engine.
Lmaoo yeah
This is such a roller-coaster
Good
I find it very funny and ironic that in a video about making a new game engine is sponsored by an already existing game engine
I know it's hilarious
now i want to see someone make a game in this engine, would be cool
I might just have to
Very nice work! I think writing an engine is considerably convenient for indie projects or projects where the time-budget allows for it. There are so many tools available now that writing a game on-top of a framework can honestly save significant time in the long-run and allow for more compelling functionalities in the framework of the title.
Thanks! Yeah there's definitely a time and place for using your own engine for commercial projects - that's something I want to do sometime :)
0:47 My favourite part
🥶🥶🥶
Youre only at 8k? Damn youre underrated af
Thanks 😁
Wow This Was Really Cool
Thanks :D
Yo!!!!! Piggies, this video is a juicy pork chop of a find!!! Get that crispy bacon home slice!!!!
Yes!
I love the circle animation, where did you find it and how do you make it look so good? (I've tried circling things before but it usually fails to look even somewhat good) (1:29)
So cool!
Thanks!
Awesome video, I’ve always been too intimidated to make an engine, and you’ve convinced me…not to. Lol
lmaoooo it's a really...interesting project for sure 💀
Great Vidéo !
Thanks!
Fantastic
Thank you 🙏
hey, i want to make videos like yours . do you use adobe after effects to make such videos with nice effects? what is your recommendation?
I used to use After Effects with Premiere Pro but I’ve transitioned to pretty much exclusively using Premiere Pro
Noice. Don't usually see videos on making game engines 😁❤
Thanks!
That's awesome 👏
Thanks 😁
The editing is really fun, although I do feel like it would be nice to go into more detail with how you made it, or at least just point the audience to some resources on where they could find the basics of this sort of thing properly explained, so it holds some more educational value.
Thanks! That’s totally a valid wish but is also definitely intentional. Pointing y’all to resources for you to learn is definitely something I can do going forward
n8dev awesome! Thanks for listening! :)
@@bouncycow3010 Thanks for your feedback 🙏
AMAZINGGG!!!
THANK YOU
Great video! I think the advice "don't write a game engine" is for ordinary humans, not n8s. Is "guap" Spanish? Does it translate into "beautif"?
Haha thanks - I have literally no idea what language it's from
> uses a memory safe language, C#
> uses raw pointers anyways because fuck memory safety
> System.AccessViolationException
"oh no, how could this happen"
That's what you get for using unsafe APIs incorrectly. They don't give you useful exceptions :(
IKR it’s so frustrating though 💀
Dude youtube finally recommended you again, still subbed tho
Im the first sub
Yessir
I Like your setup
Me too
That's is cool and hardworking too

Thanks for like
Great video! BTW, what theme are you using in Rider? I'm really into it
Thanks! I’m using “nightfall” 😁
nice video! i have a question tho, what rider theme do you use? you have great taste tbh
Thanks! I use a theme called "nightfall"
@@n8dev thanks alot

Thank you!
@@n8dev np! bro you make amazing content
I love your content! Very fun and educational. I have a question, what editing software do you use? I am thinking of making some cool videos like yours.
Thanks! I use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit, but if you’re not paying for an Adobe CC subscription I’d recommend Davinci Resolve
@@n8dev thank you so much! I'm going to be using DR. Never seen or heard about it before, exactly what I needed. 💯
Ok, this inspired me to make own game engine.
Hell yeah
Neight Developer has finally made a viable game engine 🤩 nice stuff
Thanks
It's impossible that you didn't fail. Programming is about trail and error
Yes
You may not post a lot, though when you do, they be nuggets of gold.
Made my day :)
@@n8dev No problem :3
Keep up the great content.
Do you have any resources on point-sprite rendering?
I've never done it , but once I get done coding my tile-engine I am going to need to know how to render sprites. And doing sprites in the same shader that is rendering the tilemap sounds like it would be a very bad idea. Especially if you have more than one sprite. I think to get technical it is called "branching / warp divergence" when you make the shader branch all over into execution paths its just going to throw away.
The only resources I really used besides google were Silk.NET’s (C# bindings) tutorials and some other general C++ OpenGL stuff with textures haha. Let me know if you want some links
@@n8dev I write a lot of C. So if you have C++ links they'd probably be useful to me. Thanks!
@@KANJICODER bro left you hanging
@@user-fm4mt7rz5u They helped out more than enough considering how busy they must be.
No joke GUAP is great name
I thought so too 😩
You should name the engine fire because it is on fire literally and metaphorically which makes it awesome.
Lmaooo thank you 😃
@@n8dev are you going to name it that
@@Blue-Robin We’ll see if @UsmanDev likes it first 🙄
Can you make a video on how it works? Because I'm starting to learn JavaScript to build web games, but oh my gosh! The number of libraries there are and the amount of code, sometimes it's very difficult to get the character to do a single movement and then trying to connect that to the next one is exhausting, like Unity.
The game engine? Perhaps
You should make a game dev challenge using your Game Engine
That would be sick
the time stamps are funny lol
Add blueprints pls. Jokes aside great editing, man. Now I want to try making my own engine one day.
I'm always here to help if you need it 😁
this is really cool i wanna make a game engine even more now lol
