After watching one of your videos a few months ago, I stitched my first zookin, cutting up old IKEA dish cloths. The off white ones with red stripes that sold for 79¢ long ago. I also used thrifted thread from St Vincent de Paul thrift store. A whole quart size Ziploc bag of cotton thread wooden spools for $2. Such pretty autumn colors with a fuchsia included. After watching this video, I'm inspired to stitch a zookin with a fuchsia heart amidst rows of soft greys, bronze, copper and forest green. Thank you for sharing 🍄🍄
I have a very old cookie tin that I save my short and leftover thread and it is amazing how often I end up using pieces from it for little projects. I love the mat you made with embroidery thread about two minutes into the video, but then there are so many of your things I love. I thought of you today as I was working on an antique quilt (not mine) that has some serious aging issues and it is the larger holes I am working on that need to be patched with some light flannel pieces and I thought of doing some Sashiko mending stitches to give it a little more strength. My plate is so full of the many projects that were put off during the time my son in law was in intensive care. Life is slowly getting back to somewhat normal and now I need to take care of me by doing some stitching and quilting. I am so glad you show up on my reminder "bell" and nudge me on to do something creative. Thank you🤍

That sashi tsugi is a great way to practice even stitches. I like how you have your embroidery threads hanging on a board. Have you ever thought of giving us a tour of your craft corner? I can't leave anything in plain sight. We have a furry little thief, and my craft accessories would end up in my daughter's room.

Hi! The thimble is a Japanese thimble for short needles. You can get it from Clover. The name is ‘leather thimble’ and comes with 2 thimbles😊 It’s a very common thimble in Japan and there are a few different types. You may be able to find it from other brands if you search ‘Japanese thimble’👍
I am full of admiration for those who save all their crafting scraps but in all honesty, I just can't, my house is already full enough that I cannot save everything, no matter how much I want to. Don't get me wrong, I don't throw away everything, but I do have to draw the line somewhere. I particularly like the blues, yellows and greens coaster.
I really understand what you mean! I used to sew a lot of clothes for my daughters and I kept buying so much fabric. It became too much for me at some stage, and now I rarely buy new fabrics. Even when I buy them, I only buy a small amount of plain fabric. So it’s not like I’ve been doing this from first, but it’s just how it became after going through many phases😊
This is a Japanese traditional thimble for shorter needles. It’s very common in Japan. Clover has some types of these thimbles. You can make one with some leather too. In other videos, I often use a thimble for longer needles. I like using one which I made by myself. For me, it would be easier to stitch with the usual (sashiko) thimble😅 but I’m practicing with this thimble at the moment. I think I’m getting better😆
