    "U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson came under fire Wednesday after the multimillionaire Wisconsin Republican asserted during a Senate hearing that Social Security-an economic lifeline for tens of millions of Americans who paid into the system throughout their working lives-unfairly takes from wealthier people to support lower-income retirees.
    Speaking during the Senate Budget Committee hearing-entitled Protecting Social Security for All: Making the Wealthy Pay Their Fair Share-Johnson said that his Wisconsin constituents "have a basic misconception about Social Security.""

      A list of the "everyday Americans" that have benefitted from Trump's "middle class" tax cuts: Amazon : $10.8 billion, Delta Air Lines: $5 billion, Chevron : $4.5 billion, General Motors : $4.3 billion, EOG Resources : $4 billion, Occidental Petroleum : $3.4 billion, Duke Energy : $3 billion, Dominion Resources : $3 billion, Honeywell International : $2.8 billion, Deere: $2.2 billion, American Electric Power : $1.9 billion, Kinder Morgan : $1.8 billion, Public Service Enterprise Group : $1.8 billion, Principal Financial : $1.6 billion, FirstEnergy : $1.5 billion, Prudential Financial : $1.4 billion, Xcel Energy : $1.4 billion, PulteGroup : $1.3 billion, Molson Coors : $1.3 billion, Devon Energy : $1.3 billion, Pioneer Natural Resources : $1.3 billion, DTE Energy : $1.2 billion, Wisconsin Energy : $1.1 billion, PPL: $1.1 billion, Halliburton: $1.1 billion, Ameren: $1 billion. But think of the quadrillions of magical trickle-down these campaign donors have created! But we can all agree that if ANY of these companies paid a dime in taxes, we would be just another failed socialist death camp right? I'm sure it's just a coincidence that GM announced the construction of a new 4.6-billion-dollar plant in Brazil to produce the same vehicles it used to produce in the USA only two weeks after closing their US plants right?

    My grandmother turns 81 this year. She lived her entire life in the low-income tax bracket, always hovering above or below the poverty line. She was 1 of 7 children, born during during WW2 while her father was drafted in 1942. Throughout her life, she was never able to save for retirement, but she worked as a school bus driver, pre-school teacher and in the Foster Care system, paying her due share of taxes every year (including SS). She's currently medically disabled, and as I said she'll soon be 81 years old. She quite literally depends on social security to pay for rent (which was also a negotiated priced of $780/month) and only has about 60$ leftover to buy food and medication. Luckily, my mom lives down the street from her and is able to bring her groceries and help with medication costs. My mom is also a school bus driver and also works a 2nd job at the county community center year-round-- she too pays her due share of taxes. Human beings like Ron Johnson don't give a damn about people like my family- or those who are far worse off. Meanwhile, this shell of a man wears a suit & tie, flying on a private plane form Wisconsin to D.C., just to argue that people receiving Social Security benefits is unfair to the wealthy. Stop giving individuals like Ron Johnson the power to take a way the ability for people to quite literally survive. Regardless of party or creed, could we at least agree not to continue giving these people that kind of power?

But since the rich are paying for Social Security, then why can't I live on what I am receiving? Surely the "rich" can pay a little more, or is it the same excuse for not paying a "livable wage" for people. The "rich" seem in control of the economy and things cost far too much now. This has to reach a point no one will be able to buy the things the rich make us buy to live. Henry Ford has "The Better Idea" when he priced the Model T at a cost that his workers could afford. But I suppose that this sort of common sense approach is to archaic in the 21st Century, led by the Harvard Business Model Masterminds running things now.

    Merry Christmas, Senator Scrooge. You're quite the crank, aren't you? I need to explain what Social Security is and how it works. Social Security is an Insurance Policy for elderly Americans. 20% of folks who contributed to it never receive it because they are dead by age 60. Scrooge, face it, you are among the fortunate, it's been sunshine and lollipops for you. No accidents, no combat injuries I trust, no cancer or heart disease. No diabetes (fingers crossed.) And that's what Social Security INSURANCE is about. It's a guarantee that if you worked (made in the USA) we're gonna give you a stipend to maintain your dignity as well as your neighbors dignity. I know you want that for those who built the skylines of our nation. You want THAT for those who constructed our schools, churches, and hospitals. You want that those who drive our 18 wheelers, build our cars and pickup trucks. Don't you want that for those who grow and cook your food? Of course, you do.😊😊😢

    I don’t know why Ron Johnson is worried about Social Security. I live on $24,000 a year from Social Security. Here is his wealth status. Prior to becoming senator, he was CEO of the plastics company Pacur, LLC in Wisconsin. That business made him a millionaire.
    While he earns at least $174,000 per year as his senator’s salary, his net worth has grown substantially in recent years.
    On his 2020 Senate Financial Disclosure statement, he shows income of over $5,000,000 from Pacur, LLC for interest and capital gains as well as almost a million dollars in “other” income from the company. That same year, he shows income between $5,000,001 - $25,000,000 for the sale of Pacur, LLC.
    In addition, for calendar years 2020 and 2021, he shows income from rental properties he owns with his wife between $100,001 - $1,000,000 per year.

My comment was pointing out that the social security aspect of your tax (one of the several items you see on your paycheck) only taxes the first 168,600 in annual earnings - so a rich person has no reason to make a stink about making 1,000,000 a year and feeling the social security tax burden.

    • @leifktaylor
      @leifktaylor 6 місяців тому +1

      @@ChicanoPhD Also to add some more clarification, the reason that the wealthy generally pay a smaller percentage of their income in taxes is because they have very little "income".
      The primary mechanism the wealthy use for generating liquidity (free cashflow) is by rolling debt against their assets. Debt is not taxed, therefore I (if I were extremely wealthy) could take out a loan using my assets as collateral. This loan would cover my cost of living expenses, and likely, my assets will grow in value, improving my LTV (Loan to value ratio), effectively making my loan easier to service. As soon as I need more cash, I simply take out a larger loan against my now even more valuable assets, and use that to cover the previous loan. The perpetual debt cycle allows me to remain liquid without incurring a taxable event.
