for the fuel gauge issue, just slightly lower the steering wheel (since it's manually adjustable tilt and telescopic) and it will fix the problem (you'll be able to see it, I did that)
I would say they are in a great spot when it comes to preventing theft and rust but if a mechanic or the owner were to be working on in the engine bay they may accidentally hit the o2 sensor wires but then again the chances of that are probably slim
Def doesn’t look hard to simply disconnect the sensors if you wanted to work in that area but I don’t even see any reason to work in that area unless you’re replacing the radiator/ or the fan
A good fix to the fuel gauge issue is setting your fuel details on your tachometer, i use that and it’s pretty useful being able to look down and see how much range i have
Honestly Man, Thanks for sharing your thoughts of what you dont like here but if these are the 5 things you hate the most, then there is not much you hate IMO. I just got a 2022 Sport here in Canada and while all those things are slightly annoying,, by no means are they anything i would hate at all. The whole catalytic convertor being in the Engine compartment to me is sweet and a genius idea, Have you seen how often Catalytic Convertors are being stolen off cars nowadays, ( I don't understand it but it happens a hell of a lot ), The start/stop is pretty much a standard option now anyways and honestly i dont mind it and is very useful in some situations which is why i love the idea of the Disable switch, I decide when i want it on. The other items were just nit picking in my opinion because there were no other meaningful bad things.
Absolutely and thanks for commenting, I honestly really like the car and don’t have anything bad to say about it so far. I just made the video because I knew viewers would be interested to see videos like this. As far as the converter it is better to have it in the engine compartment to prevent it from being stolen just having the wire on the o2 sensor exposed like that seems to be a poor design and the start/stop feature is the only thing that really bothers me, I’d prefer to have the car running at all stop lights, drive thru’s, etc. Again thanks for the comment and I’m glad you enjoyed the video
You'll hate it when you find out you have to replace those turbos $$$ and all turbo lines before it hits 100k miles.....those turbos spool up to 100k rpm and blazing hot. When you shut off the engine suddenly and constantly you're turbos stop getting any cooling and the oil cakes on the tiny lines. Thats why racers with turbos install turbo timers just for that reason....not to mention the shortening the engine life.... which defeats the reason so many people buy hondas.
Crappy front seats, no heated seat in the Si, bad road and wind noise, CVT, mediocre lane keep assist and more road noise. Acura Integrea A spec here I come.
The converter placement is done for efficiency reasons. Having the converter closer to the exhaust manifold allows for the converter to get to operating temperature more quickly so it can function as intended. It also helps with people not being able to steal your converter so easily. One more thing, the accord 2.0T uses a tuned down version of the Civic Type R engine, uses slightly different internals and smaller turbo when compared to the civic type R. The 2.0 NA has been the same engine in the 10th gen civic since 2016, I have a 2017 Civic EX with that engine and lemme tell you, naturally aspirated engines will outlast any turbo engine by any means.
Thanks for the comment and yes the new placement of the catalytic converter is definitely a benefit for the manufacture as well as the consumer, I feel that they could have done something better with the wire placement. I definitely agree that n/a cars will last longer than turbocharged cars and thanks for the insight on the accord engine
A V6 or V8 will outlast any 4 banger. Automatic transmission will outlast any CVT. A manual transmission is more fun to drive, even though the clutch may have to be replaced if you are a bad driver.
@@richscott2483That’s not necessarily true, a V8 or V6 nowadays most likely really won’t last any longer than an i4. Most people driving v6’s thrash the shit out of them and destroy them. It’s also all about who builds the engine. A Honda Four Banger will outlive any Chevy V8.
I spoke with a few professional reviewers and they all said that as of right now, the auto start/stop can not be permanently disabled. This is definitely a huge let down considering how much extra wear and tear it will put on your starter and engine, especially during city driving. And having to switch it off every time you start the car is a pain. Imagine running errands all day and having to switch it off half a dozen times in one day.
I don't know about Honda but my Mazda has a way not to activate the auto start stop by pressing the brake not all the way down but just enough to stop the car. If you press it a little bit harder, the auto start stop will engage.
Starters systems on auto on/off nowadays are designed to last for many more cycles than normal ones. Wear and tear should not be something to worry about, but the gas savings and emissions are way better to keep in mind. Also, these are damn hondas, they last like forever.
I don’t know if it’s your steering wheel height, but in my 2022 sport the visibility of the fuel gage is a non-issue (without adjusting any seat or steering wheel heights)
I 100% agree with the lane departure mitigation thing. I felt like I was fighting with the car at first and it was new and I felt like I wasn’t in control so it pissed me off. Came from an 05 Camry so I was not used to that shit lol
I think the Cat/02 sensor placement is great for 1.) security from thieves and 2.) for ease or replacement without crawling under the car for those without car lifts. Good job choosing the 2.0 NA as that one will go for quite some time down the road!
For the lane departure, you're right about it. But it's more of a safety feature as if let's say that you weren't paying attention and started to veer away from your lane (which is why it's very strict and would correct you immediately). To change lanes though, just use your signals and it won't happen (turning on signals disables the lane departure alert temporarily, allowing you to change lanes). So yeah basically just use your turn signal and it won't happen. Even if let's say you forgot to and it happened, force the steering wheel in the direction you want and it will obey, as the lane departure stops once you force it. You can disable it, but it taught me to get used to use my turning signals all time and not be a BMW driver.
man they destroyed the look of the Civic. 10th gen looked way better. But that engine bay looks way easier to working. I will for sure be keeping my 2019.
0:54 I completely agree on the auto-stop. I appreciate it may be useful to improve fuel economy (perhaps on long trips), however I would prefer to be able to set the default position. If the car could remember how we last had it set when it turned back on I think it would be WAY better. Those times when we're pulling into traffic with the engine shut off I think are quite dangerous to have a momentary delay for us to be able to turn the wheel / get the car to get going. It's super frustrating to have to remember to hit the button every time we start the car if this is our preference. (The above happening is usually what reminds me to turn it off 😝️) Although I think most (all) auto-start/stop cars do this, hopefully car makers revisit this in the future.
I couldn’t agree more and hopefully soon Honda will design a system to download into the cars software to accommodate that very thing, as a memory based option or even a permanently disabled option
You get used to it, on my Skoda when you stop if you push the pedal down hard the engine cuts off, if you press lightly it stays running, I only turn it off occasionally if Im feeling lazy or there's crawling traffic it can be annoying, or if it's really cold but then usually it won't stop anyway. Mostly I just leave it on.

The auto start-stop is there to reduce emissions. It's been fitted to European spec cars for 7+ years now and no reliability issues as far as I'm aware. I like the silence at the traffic lights and find it very smooth (VW Golf).

Thanks for sharing your perspectives on your car. I agree with the first 2 ( the auto stop and lane departure warning) ...those things I don't want any where on my car. The cat converter seems harmless where it's at and I can't see it getting in the way of any work you'd have to do like valve cover gaskets/tune-ups etc. And having O2 sensors easy to get to is better than crawling under the car or having the cat cut off by thieves.
My 2018 Accord 1.5T just had a fuel injector fail at 58k error code P0172 (posted on my channel). Modern Honda look amazing but once the 3yr/36k warranty expires you're on your own and you have no idea how expensive modern Honda engines are to fix. Oil changed at 80%, Shell regular used 80% of the time, always did warm up the car in the winter. Dealer so out of touch they recommended brake fluid replacement at 30k. I've never seen this part fail in ANY of my past cars. When asked why fuel injectors failed so early they said they see them all the time and $1600-$2500 (must replace all 4) would fix my out of warranty problem and the new injectors warranty is only for 12k/12mos! Made a case with Honda and the person assigned has never called me back once. Called for 3 weeks until I realized the could care less. Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice...
I agree with the auto start stop feature, I have it on my 2021 CR-V it is so annoying. Also the auto high beams blind people from behind all the time. I have to manually turn lights on, not huge deal but its one more step at start and when shut off
Thank you so much for this review! The auto on/off is definitely a big NO for me. But another thing I hate from my 2020 Civic Sport is that you cannot lock the door using your remote from outside of the car while the engine is running. I can't stop saying that even 2010 Nissan Sentra can do it!
Your welcome and yeah the biggest problem for me is that start/stop feature.. and wow I didn’t know that, seems like you should be able to so for instants if it’s cold out side and you’re warming up the car you should be able to keep the doors locked so no one can get in and try to steal it or something of that nature

Before exiting the car while its still on, lower the driver side window completely, once you are outside of the car, reach in and press to lock button and then press the window roll up button, make sure you pull your arm out before it gets caught. to enter the vehicle, pull out the actual key from the keyfob and unlock your car the old fashion way by sticking it in the door handle and turning (new civic has the key sloth hidden inside the door handle). its a lot of steps but it works for me during the hot summer days!
Your beef about the O2 sensors is pretty weak. It's the same on every Civic since the early 2000s, at least. They're easy cars to work on. Try dealing with a BMW sometime. The exhaust thing is what it is--you bought it how you saw it.
There is a small device with 2 connectors to bypass the Stop Idle when you are at a stop sign or traffic light. It cost under $100 and takes 20 to 40 minutes to install. It does not void your warranty. It saves you the daily grief of button pushing or always placing your car from Eco mode to Sports Mode. This will save wear and tear on the car, but you will lose 1 or 2 mpg due to idling when driving in the city. The cost of car repair versus a few mpg's is worth installing the bypass device.
I keep my steering wheel lower so that the top is just above the gage top. That should easily fix your #2. Not sure you’re looking for a solution tho. Haha cheers
Hondas out of sight fuel gauge is a classic. I was driving my moms 2012 odyssey and the low fuel light was perfectly hidden behind the steering wheel. Next thing I know I’m out of gas and calling aaa. Yes I know I’m an idiot for not looking at the gauge but the fuel light location is ridiculous.
I’ve got a ‘22 EX in the same color. My complaints are honestly the same. I can’t stand the auto start/stop, the fuel gauge is too low, and even in the 1.5T, the exhaust comes out of the front. Great video, though. Thanks for sharing!

As far as the differences between the EX and the Sport, there’s a good bit of differences. I compared the EX and Sport when I was shopping and ultimately decided to go with the EX. The Sport comes with the 18” wheels, chrome exhaust, a few blacked out trim bits, and cloth seats specific to the Sport trim. You also get the standard 2.0L NA engine. The EX offers a few good upgrades over the Sport. You get blind spot monitoring (why I chose the EX), smaller 17” wheels, a sunroof, heated front seats, 60/40 fold down seats, and a rear armrest with cup holders. You also get the 1.5L turbo engine with the EX trim. That’s about all of the differences I can think of right off the top of my head. I know the EX trim gets the best fuel economy of the Civic sedan at 42 hwy and 33 city. Just beware that dealers are probably going to be marking these cars up above MSRP by several thousand dollars since the new Civics are in high demand. It is happening in my area. 2-25-2023, 2:41AM, PST : Two things my fellow Honda Civic enthusiast. One: I believe this Honda Civic came with a tilt steering wheel. All you have to do is slightly adjust the tilt, and you can see a gas gauge all you want. Two: Under the hood. How much time are you going to spend underneath the hood? It's practically a brand new car, and there's more than enough room for you to do anything you need to do. The Honda engineers knew what they were doing when they designed the engine compartment. Oh, by the way, I have the 2023 Honda Civic Sport with the 2.0L motor. The 2023 has the same configuration as the 2022. The Auto Idle Stop "SUCKS". I wish it could be turned off altogether..I cannot find anything in the menu on how to do this. Other than this I believe the Honda Civic is a great little car. I like the short video. 🐢 👍 🐢 🚗 🐢 😀
If you go into the menu you can select to display the range and fuel in the tachometer. That's how I like to keep mine so I always know exactly how much fuel I have.
the idle stop is the worst! They really needed to make that optional to turn off permently like the lane assist. If I had known about this prior, I would've kept my my 2018 Honda civic.
try setting the steering wheel in a lower position (that deals with your 2nd issue hopefully) - also more relaxing for longer drives to have your arms lower and makes it anatomically easier to breathe

I see a lot of people concerned about the auto shutoff. If you hold the brake lightly at a light it won’t turn off no matter how long you sit. You can press down harder at any moment and it will turn off. Don’t know if this was an update made after this vid but I noticed it ever since I got mine in Feb 2022
I feel you on the first one. I had an Acura tlx before and it had the auto engine shut off button too. It annoyed me when I first got the car but few months later it became my muscle memory to turn it off the moment I start the engine. When I got the ‘19 civic hatch it didn’t have that which was amazing. Didn’t know why the added the engine shut off function :/
Good points. Thanks for sharing. I have a 2019 Honda Insight and I also turned it off my Lane Assist as it would sometimes alert me and vibrate my steering wheel for no known reason. I am hoping the 2023 Civic will have the hybrid option and in Hatchback like Europe.
I LOVE my new 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback. I do disable the auto start and stop function every time I get into my car. It freaks me out when my car shuts down. The only other thing I don't like is that the back is sloped so after you raise the trunk, you have to sort of grapple at it to close it. There's nothing to grab on to to push it down. Other than that, I love the car!
Hey man! Great videos. I was wondering, what do you think about the 'infotainment' screen in this car? All the other reviews show the top trim level which has a different screen and software so it makes me wonder if the lower trims are any good
It's honestly a downgrade from the new elantras. There just bigger more comfortable and the ivt shift amazing. And I love the smart driving mode goes to sport when it senses other car near you driving to fast. Plus the view is wider in the windshield. Sorry I hate driving civics so uncomfortable for big guys. I'm 6 feet
I have one in ralleye red, I live in MN. One thing I noticed is you can't put the wiper blades up for when snow is coming because it hits the hood. I never really did that anyway, but a lot of people around here do
First, auto start/stop is a pain, I agree, but search the internet, as many companies offer an eliminated harness, and they are cheap. Second, O2 sensors are always in an impossible to access spot, so this should be a positive feature.
It’s supposed to work that way but people have said that they’ve had a problem with it not working properly before. You can also permanently disable it which is a huge plus
One thing I despise is the low profile tires with the short sidewalls. Living in the boroughs of NYC....they are very conducive to blowing out from potholes. Honda should know better
I’m pretty sure in the cars manual it tells you exactly how to change the default state of the features. Like auto lane assist or disabling the engine turn off. It may not be intuitive, it may not do it for you, however you can 100% change that and it’s up to you whether you wanna be lazy and complain or if you wanna actually get things done for yourself
on and off feature is becoming a requirement now, we will be seeing more and more in newer cars not just honda. sucks but hitting that off button is something we need to get used to. XD
I reviewed the 2022 Honda Civic in my channel and I must say it was great value for money, and the design was AWESOME! But I feel like it did have a questionable drive, it didn't seem very exciting, but still pleasant! The steering radius was not as good as I expected, it was almost like a minivan steering radius. Just got a 2023 and it's got the auto-off feature too and it anoys me. Does seem like it's stress on the engine for tiny bit of carbon reduction...meaning politics. I wonder if it can be hacked into being off all the time.
A few things I find annoying and possibly illegal? 1. The screen is blocking the view out the front windshield. 2. The front bumper, lights area of the front of car looks CHEAP and generic. Like hand bent, painted cardboard. Limited styling. 3 The stop-start will also be an issue. On a one hour trip in the city, my friend measured 87 stops at lights and stop signs. That's a HELL of a lot of unnecessary restarts. Probably what I do in 2 weeks in my current Civic. I bet a new starter in $900 for this car, maybe more...
Great vid, looks like a great car too and I love that you frame it as the things you hate specifically, because of some these features like the lane departure mitigation are things that others would like.
I have the Civic EX-L (2019-21 model) which has the 1.5 liter turbo and it has dual exhaust but they are HIDDEN! 🙄 I don't understand it. I couldn't imagine having my fuel gauge that low. I feel better about knowing how much gas I have every time I'm driving it.
Idk I feel like these are a bit overreacted complaints. You should only have to turn off the auto stop thing if your car is in eco mode. Mine doesn’t turn on automatically in any other mode. I normally have to turn it on to use it in Eco too.. I have no trouble seeing my gas guage, but I guess we could sit different in it. With the lane mitigation that’s only able to be used in cruise control & I think most people would like it like I do. I just don’t feel like these are legit complaints, more of personal preferences.

I've bought 9 new cars in my lifetime, many already had items you mentioned installed. Ive never paid for any of them. I just say, I will buy this car, but I won't pay for things you put on it. They always agreed to remove the charges from the price. And I always make sure they do. Also they have never removed anything they put on the car. Dude, just be firm with them, if they refuse, walk away.
If you go into settings to either vehicle or system settings you can find lane departure mitigation and then you can adjust the “sensitivity (forgiveness) “ by changing to a wide road setting. Although it says road departure it will help with LKAS also
I've had a few various Civics my latest a 2019 Sport with CTV which is okay but I actually preferred by 2015 Civic SI with the 6 spd. manual which easily out-handled these newer larger models. I do agree, these cars are now so full of technology that is annoying or in the case of digital menus and displays that are confusing to work your way through. I'm surprised they did not build the 2021 Sport with the better looking center exhaust that is on previous models? I agree that new gas gauge display is not user-friendly, very poor positioning for something that is necessary to be able to see.
Yeah as time passes and newer models come out things change some for the better and some for the worse but each car has it own unique advantages. The 2022 civic sport hatch does come with dual center tips where as the 2022 civic si comes with 3 in the center and yes the fuel gauge could be placed elsewhere that would be nice

I owned a 2016 accord for 6 years…..maintenance was beyond simple….they designed it that way. That little car was amazing, never gave me any issues. I did regular tunes when necessary but overall Honda engine outlasts ANY domestic engine on any day. A lot of the things you mention are so insignificant to the performance of the the overall vehicle. I’ve driven GMC for years and let me tell you, it’s like night and day. Also, the starters are rebuilt and designed to sustain the constant start and stop feature, if it goes out then just fix it, it’s not complicated.
Unfortunately that start/stop thing is the new norm. I’m just glad it has the ability to shut it off because my Malibu doesn’t have that option. I do wish there was a memory or something to keep that off so you could just turn it off one time and keep it off
The only time I would use the auto start and stop feature is if I knew beforehand that my car would be waiting in line completely stopped for several minutes like at a busy drive-thru or sometimes when I pump gas at a busy location (Costco). Other than that it is annoying and I don't use it in my 2024 sport hatch (2.0L) 6MT.
I have a newer Subaru and the auto start/stop annoys me too. It also can’t be disabled permanently; you have to shut it off each time you get in the car. I’m told the manufacturers gets an incentive from the federal government for meeting mileage numbers to have this feature (makes sense i guess) but it only counts if it’s enabled by default…ridiculous if you ask me. I’ve noticed in the Subaru, there are about a dozen things you can do to instantly turn your engine back on if you hear it shut off…like a hard press on the brake.
Yes I realized that after making the video. I have since lowered the steering wheel and can see the gauge just fine, but still would have liked the gauge to be in a different spot
It's called Lane Keep Assist, bud. I don't mind it, except it only works under certain conditions. For example, it does not work at night, when raining with poor visibility, which is when it would be most helpful! When it's nice and bright in daylight, I can see the damn lane markers myself!
Put the steering wheel a little down and that would solve your gas vision problem, not just that but the steering wheel should be all the way down so it can mimic a true sport car. Having it all the way up its like a grandma driving. Every time I buy a car or borrow a car or rent a car that's the first thing I do, I put it all the down so I can drive it like a sport car, it's more fun and you can drive better cause it's not on your eye vision when you driving looking at the road.
Thanks for the suggestion and comment, I later realized that day that it was up higher bc of my wife. I have lowered it since and can see the gas gauge but I still feel that they could’ve put it in a different place on the dash tho.

Just got my 2022 Civic Sport about a month ago. Great car. I really do like it a lot, but I agree with you about the auto start/stop and the lane departure warning. I know about turning on/off the lane keep assist, but I want to be able to completely disable the lane departure warning, and I haven’t read anything or seen any videos about completely disabling that. Were you saying you found a way to disable that just by playing around with the settings?
Love my SI but I hate the wipers. I can’t believe u didn’t mention how bad the wipers are. Every aspect of them is terrible. Design and functionality are very poor
LOL.. Fuel Gauge placement you can change. Guess you are not familiar with the different mode selections/ layout of the digital Instrument cluster. Buy the device for $100 that bypasses the Idle Stop, it does not void the warranty and saves plenty of headaches. Pushing that switch every time getting in the car is a pain. You could just push the button to go from Eco Mode to Sport Mode and don't worry about Idle Stop until the next time out driving. Have you read the owner's manual? The Touring trim has dual exhaust pipes. You can either get a heat shield installed to protect the front catalytic converter or get your engine bay rust proofed. Catalytic converters get extremely Hot so do not touch. For screen glare, place a sun screen over your Instrument Cluster 10-inch screen and the 9-inch Infotainment screen. LOL Put some sunglasses on them, sonny. Oh! The Civic is still noisy, requires more deafening material and wear ear muffs, ear plugs or crank up the radio volume. Civic is 59 decibels, and the Mazda 3 is at 55 - 56 decibels. Bose stereo system in Civic Touring is okay with 12 tiny speakers, heard better as the problem lies with the cheap tiny Bose speakers. No seat lumbar back support depends upon your own spinal issues if you need it or not.
About the exhaust Look at boba & jango fett… they only got one helmet antenna right? There’s your answer (symmetry is sometimes overrated) but I feel you sometimes I’d like symmetrical exhaust but then I come back to same idea of boba & jango
Hands down Honda civic 2022 is best looking car in that price range. Nothing even comes close in its design and reliability. I mean sure we have Toyotas but you know how boring it is to drive them and frankly they lack that modern look civic offers. I would go for Civic anyday.
to be fair, most cars if not all nowadays have that auto stop/start crap. My '20 Ridgeline included. Hate it, but usually I run the AC and the truck stays on despite stopping.
Those worried about start/stop causing engine wear shouldn't. Google cars most likely to last over 200k miles. You will see the prius on that list, which start/stops more frequently than the Honda. I cant vouch for the starter, as the Prius uses the electric motor for that job. I can say changing that starter is much easier and cheaper than the hybrid counterpart. I will be replacing my 192k mile Prius with the Civic 2.0 Hatch manual.

Tilt/cruise were already popular features several decades ago. Did you tilt the steering wheel downward sufficiently to see the fuel gauge? The Sport does not have a sporty engine (just steering shift pedals). Only the Sport Touring does, therefore dual exhaust “tips”?
Why is there no temperature gauge??? How much more would it add to the price to put in a temperature gauge? I’d have no problem spending the extra little bit of money on it, knowing that I won’t be blind to my engine overheating when I drive it.

for the fuel gauge issue, just slightly lower the steering wheel (since it's manually adjustable tilt and telescopic) and it will fix the problem (you'll be able to see it, I did that)
The cat and O2 sensor placements are a plus. The cat is secure and O2's will not rust on and simple to change rather than crawling under car.
I would say they are in a great spot when it comes to preventing theft and rust but if a mechanic or the owner were to be working on in the engine bay they may accidentally hit the o2 sensor wires but then again the chances of that are probably slim

Def doesn’t look hard to simply disconnect the sensors if you wanted to work in that area but I don’t even see any reason to work in that area unless you’re replacing the radiator/ or the fan

A good fix to the fuel gauge issue is setting your fuel details on your tachometer, i use that and it’s pretty useful being able to look down and see how much range i have
Honestly Man, Thanks for sharing your thoughts of what you dont like here but if these are the 5 things you hate the most, then there is not much you hate IMO. I just got a 2022 Sport here in Canada and while all those things are slightly annoying,, by no means are they anything i would hate at all. The whole catalytic convertor being in the Engine compartment to me is sweet and a genius idea, Have you seen how often Catalytic Convertors are being stolen off cars nowadays, ( I don't understand it but it happens a hell of a lot ), The start/stop is pretty much a standard option now anyways and honestly i dont mind it and is very useful in some situations which is why i love the idea of the Disable switch, I decide when i want it on. The other items were just nit picking in my opinion because there were no other meaningful bad things.
Absolutely and thanks for commenting, I honestly really like the car and don’t have anything bad to say about it so far. I just made the video because I knew viewers would be interested to see videos like this. As far as the converter it is better to have it in the engine compartment to prevent it from being stolen just having the wire on the o2 sensor exposed like that seems to be a poor design and the start/stop feature is the only thing that really bothers me, I’d prefer to have the car running at all stop lights, drive thru’s, etc. Again thanks for the comment and I’m glad you enjoyed the video

You'll hate it when you find out you have to replace those turbos $$$ and all turbo lines before it hits 100k miles.....those turbos spool up to 100k rpm and blazing hot. When you shut off the engine suddenly and constantly you're turbos stop getting any cooling and the oil cakes on the tiny lines. Thats why racers with turbos install turbo timers just for that reason....not to mention the shortening the engine life.... which defeats the reason so many people buy hondas.

Crappy front seats, no heated seat in the Si, bad road and wind noise, CVT, mediocre lane keep assist and more road noise. Acura Integrea A spec here I come.
The converter placement is done for efficiency reasons. Having the converter closer to the exhaust manifold allows for the converter to get to operating temperature more quickly so it can function as intended. It also helps with people not being able to steal your converter so easily. One more thing, the accord 2.0T uses a tuned down version of the Civic Type R engine, uses slightly different internals and smaller turbo when compared to the civic type R. The 2.0 NA has been the same engine in the 10th gen civic since 2016, I have a 2017 Civic EX with that engine and lemme tell you, naturally aspirated engines will outlast any turbo engine by any means.

A V6 or V8 will outlast any 4 banger. Automatic transmission will outlast any CVT. A manual transmission is more fun to drive, even though the clutch may have to be replaced if you are a bad driver.
@@richscott2483That’s not necessarily true, a V8 or V6 nowadays most likely really won’t last any longer than an i4. Most people driving v6’s thrash the shit out of them and destroy them. It’s also all about who builds the engine. A Honda Four Banger will outlive any Chevy V8.
I spoke with a few professional reviewers and they all said that as of right now, the auto start/stop can not be permanently disabled. This is definitely a huge let down considering how much extra wear and tear it will put on your starter and engine, especially during city driving. And having to switch it off every time you start the car is a pain. Imagine running errands all day and having to switch it off half a dozen times in one day.
That is definitely a disappointment and yeah it would get aggravating having to push the button over and over
I don't know about Honda but my Mazda has a way not to activate the auto start stop by pressing the brake not all the way down but just enough to stop the car. If you press it a little bit harder, the auto start stop will engage.

Starters systems on auto on/off nowadays are designed to last for many more cycles than normal ones. Wear and tear should not be something to worry about, but the gas savings and emissions are way better to keep in mind. Also, these are damn hondas, they last like forever.
It is deactivated in Sport mode. So you can drive around in sport. But you’d get a little worse MPGs.
I don’t know if it’s your steering wheel height, but in my 2022 sport the visibility of the fuel gage is a non-issue (without adjusting any seat or steering wheel heights)
I 100% agree with the lane departure mitigation thing. I felt like I was fighting with the car at first and it was new and I felt like I wasn’t in control so it pissed me off. Came from an 05 Camry so I was not used to that shit lol
I think the Cat/02 sensor placement is great for 1.) security from thieves and 2.) for ease or replacement without crawling under the car for those without car lifts. Good job choosing the 2.0 NA as that one will go for quite some time down the road!
For the lane departure, you're right about it. But it's more of a safety feature as if let's say that you weren't paying attention and started to veer away from your lane (which is why it's very strict and would correct you immediately). To change lanes though, just use your signals and it won't happen (turning on signals disables the lane departure alert temporarily, allowing you to change lanes).
So yeah basically just use your turn signal and it won't happen.
Even if let's say you forgot to and it happened, force the steering wheel in the direction you want and it will obey, as the lane departure stops once you force it.
You can disable it, but it taught me to get used to use my turning signals all time and not be a BMW driver.
man they destroyed the look of the Civic. 10th gen looked way better. But that engine bay looks way easier to working. I will for sure be keeping my 2019.
0:54 I completely agree on the auto-stop. I appreciate it may be useful to improve fuel economy (perhaps on long trips), however I would prefer to be able to set the default position. If the car could remember how we last had it set when it turned back on I think it would be WAY better. Those times when we're pulling into traffic with the engine shut off I think are quite dangerous to have a momentary delay for us to be able to turn the wheel / get the car to get going. It's super frustrating to have to remember to hit the button every time we start the car if this is our preference. (The above happening is usually what reminds me to turn it off 😝️) Although I think most (all) auto-start/stop cars do this, hopefully car makers revisit this in the future.
I couldn’t agree more and hopefully soon Honda will design a system to download into the cars software to accommodate that very thing, as a memory based option or even a permanently disabled option
You get used to it, on my Skoda when you stop if you push the pedal down hard the engine cuts off, if you press lightly it stays running, I only turn it off occasionally if Im feeling lazy or there's crawling traffic it can be annoying, or if it's really cold but then usually it won't stop anyway. Mostly I just leave it on.

The auto start-stop is there to reduce emissions. It's been fitted to European spec cars for 7+ years now and no reliability issues as far as I'm aware. I like the silence at the traffic lights and find it very smooth (VW Golf).

Thanks for sharing your perspectives on your car. I agree with the first 2 ( the auto stop and lane departure warning) ...those things I don't want any where on my car. The cat converter seems harmless where it's at and I can't see it getting in the way of any work you'd have to do like valve cover gaskets/tune-ups etc. And having O2 sensors easy to get to is better than crawling under the car or having the cat cut off by thieves.

My 2018 Accord 1.5T just had a fuel injector fail at 58k error code P0172 (posted on my channel). Modern Honda look amazing but once the 3yr/36k warranty expires you're on your own and you have no idea how expensive modern Honda engines are to fix. Oil changed at 80%, Shell regular used 80% of the time, always did warm up the car in the winter. Dealer so out of touch they recommended brake fluid replacement at 30k. I've never seen this part fail in ANY of my past cars. When asked why fuel injectors failed so early they said they see them all the time and $1600-$2500 (must replace all 4) would fix my out of warranty problem and the new injectors warranty is only for 12k/12mos! Made a case with Honda and the person assigned has never called me back once. Called for 3 weeks until I realized the could care less. Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice...

I agree with the auto start stop feature, I have it on my 2021 CR-V it is so annoying. Also the auto high beams blind people from behind all the time. I have to manually turn lights on, not huge deal but its one more step at start and when shut off

The auto on/off is definitely a big NO for me.
But another thing I hate from my 2020 Civic Sport is that you cannot lock the door using your remote from outside of the car while the engine is running. I can't stop saying that even 2010 Nissan Sentra can do it!
Your welcome and yeah the biggest problem for me is that start/stop feature.. and wow I didn’t know that, seems like you should be able to so for instants if it’s cold out side and you’re warming up the car you should be able to keep the doors locked so no one can get in and try to steal it or something of that nature

You can if you turn the car off shut and lock the door and remote start. I know it’s a hastle to have to use remote start but u can
Before exiting the car while its still on, lower the driver side window completely, once you are outside of the car, reach in and press to lock button and then press the window roll up button, make sure you pull your arm out before it gets caught. to enter the vehicle, pull out the actual key from the keyfob and unlock your car the old fashion way by sticking it in the door handle and turning (new civic has the key sloth hidden inside the door handle). its a lot of steps but it works for me during the hot summer days!
Ordered a 22 sport, test drove one two days prior to mine getting delivered. Hated how slow and sluggish it was. Got a 2020 si coupe instead.

Your beef about the O2 sensors is pretty weak. It's the same on every Civic since the early 2000s, at least. They're easy cars to work on. Try dealing with a BMW sometime.

There is a small device with 2 connectors to bypass the Stop Idle when you are at a stop sign or traffic light. It cost under $100 and takes 20 to 40 minutes to install. It does not void your warranty.
It saves you the daily grief of button pushing or always placing your car from Eco mode to Sports Mode. This will save wear and tear on the car, but you will lose 1 or 2 mpg due to idling when driving in the city. The cost of car repair versus a few mpg's is worth installing the bypass device.

Hondas out of sight fuel gauge is a classic. I was driving my moms 2012 odyssey and the low fuel light was perfectly hidden behind the steering wheel. Next thing I know I’m out of gas and calling aaa. Yes I know I’m an idiot for not looking at the gauge but the fuel light location is ridiculous.

@@kyqorioskygo8999 My tint is 20% which is illegal, but I’ve had vehicles with 20% previously, and haven’t had issues where I’m at (Alabama).
As far as the differences between the EX and the Sport, there’s a good bit of differences. I compared the EX and Sport when I was shopping and ultimately decided to go with the EX.
The Sport comes with the 18” wheels, chrome exhaust, a few blacked out trim bits, and cloth seats specific to the Sport trim. You also get the standard 2.0L NA engine.
The EX offers a few good upgrades over the Sport. You get blind spot monitoring (why I chose the EX), smaller 17” wheels, a sunroof, heated front seats, 60/40 fold down seats, and a rear armrest with cup holders. You also get the 1.5L turbo engine with the EX trim.
That’s about all of the differences I can think of right off the top of my head. I know the EX trim gets the best fuel economy of the Civic sedan at 42 hwy and 33 city.
Just beware that dealers are probably going to be marking these cars up above MSRP by several thousand dollars since the new Civics are in high demand. It is happening in my area.

: Two things my fellow Honda Civic enthusiast.
One: I believe this Honda Civic came with a tilt steering wheel. All you have to do is slightly adjust the tilt, and you can see a gas gauge all you want.
Two: Under the hood. How much time are you going to spend underneath the hood? It's practically a brand new car, and there's more than enough room for you to do anything you need to do. The Honda engineers knew what they were doing when they designed the engine compartment.
Oh, by the way, I have the 2023 Honda Civic Sport with the 2.0L motor. The 2023 has the same configuration as the 2022.
The Auto Idle Stop "SUCKS". I wish it could be turned off altogether..I cannot find anything in the menu on how to do this.
Other than this I believe the Honda Civic is a great little car.

I don't know why everyone is hating the auto start & stop. it works well and often don't know its doing anything. Works perfectly
If you go into the menu you can select to display the range and fuel in the tachometer. That's how I like to keep mine so I always know exactly how much fuel I have.
the idle stop is the worst! They really needed to make that optional to turn off permently like the lane assist. If I had known about this prior, I would've kept my my 2018 Honda civic.
try setting the steering wheel in a lower position (that deals with your 2nd issue hopefully) - also more relaxing for longer drives to have your arms lower and makes it anatomically easier to breathe

You can bypass the auto start/stop feature, but you can't bypass that you got the automatic "&" the sedan. Sad very sad 😓.
I see a lot of people concerned about the auto shutoff. If you hold the brake lightly at a light it won’t turn off no matter how long you sit. You can press down harder at any moment and it will turn off. Don’t know if this was an update made after this vid but I noticed it ever since I got mine in Feb 2022
I feel you on the first one. I had an Acura tlx before and it had the auto engine shut off button too. It annoyed me when I first got the car but few months later it became my muscle memory to turn it off the moment I start the engine. When I got the ‘19 civic hatch it didn’t have that which was amazing. Didn’t know why the added the engine shut off function :/

I LOVE my new 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback. I do disable the auto start and stop function every time I get into my car. It freaks me out when my car shuts down. The only other thing I don't like is that the back is sloped so after you raise the trunk, you have to sort of grapple at it to close it. There's nothing to grab on to to push it down. Other than that, I love the car!

Hey man! Great videos. I was wondering, what do you think about the 'infotainment' screen in this car? All the other reviews show the top trim level which has a different screen and software so it makes me wonder if the lower trims are any good
It's honestly a downgrade from the new elantras. There just bigger more comfortable and the ivt shift amazing. And I love the smart driving mode goes to sport when it senses other car near you driving to fast. Plus the view is wider in the windshield. Sorry I hate driving civics so uncomfortable for big guys. I'm 6 feet

I don’t like lane assistance. I live in a rural area and we have to drive over the right lane to pass on coming cars sometimes.
I have one in ralleye red, I live in MN. One thing I noticed is you can't put the wiper blades up for when snow is coming because it hits the hood. I never really did that anyway, but a lot of people around here do
First, auto start/stop is a pain, I agree, but search the internet, as many companies offer an eliminated harness, and they are cheap. Second, O2 sensors are always in an impossible to access spot, so this should be a positive feature.
Lane assist issue that you mention is easily fixed if you turn your signal on!
It’s supposed to work that way but people have said that they’ve had a problem with it not working properly before. You can also permanently disable it which is a huge plus
One thing I despise is the low profile tires with the short sidewalls. Living in the boroughs of NYC....they are very conducive to blowing out from potholes. Honda should know better
I’m pretty sure in the cars manual it tells you exactly how to change the default state of the features. Like auto lane assist or disabling the engine turn off. It may not be intuitive, it may not do it for you, however you can 100% change that and it’s up to you whether you wanna be lazy and complain or if you wanna actually get things done for yourself
on and off feature is becoming a requirement now, we will be seeing more and more in newer cars not just honda. sucks but hitting that off button is something we need to get used to. XD
I reviewed the 2022 Honda Civic in my channel and I must say it was great value for money, and the design was AWESOME! But I feel like it did have a questionable drive, it didn't seem very exciting, but still pleasant! The steering radius was not as good as I expected, it was almost like a minivan steering radius.

A few things I find annoying and possibly illegal? 1. The screen is blocking the view out the front windshield. 2. The front bumper, lights area of the front of car looks CHEAP and generic. Like hand bent, painted cardboard. Limited styling. 3 The stop-start will also be an issue. On a one hour trip in the city, my friend measured 87 stops at lights and stop signs. That's a HELL of a lot of unnecessary restarts. Probably what I do in 2 weeks in my current Civic. I bet a new starter in $900 for this car, maybe more...

I have the Civic EX-L (2019-21 model) which has the 1.5 liter turbo and it has dual exhaust but they are HIDDEN! 🙄 I don't understand it.
I couldn't imagine having my fuel gauge that low. I feel better about knowing how much gas I have every time I'm driving it.

You should only have to turn off the auto stop thing if your car is in eco mode. Mine doesn’t turn on automatically in any other mode. I normally have to turn it on to use it in Eco too..
I have no trouble seeing my gas guage, but I guess we could sit different in it.
With the lane mitigation that’s only able to be used in cruise control & I think most people would like it like I do.
I just don’t feel like these are legit complaints, more of personal preferences.
You should be thankful you have this car. I want to buy a new Civic and the dealers have none for sale. If you do find one that want over MSRP.
remember you can adjust your steering wheel height manually to satisfy your sight needs. Maybe you missed that feature.

I've bought 9 new cars in my lifetime, many already had items you mentioned installed. Ive never paid for any of them. I just say, I will buy this car, but I won't pay for things you put on it. They always agreed to remove the charges from the price. And I always make sure they do. Also they have never removed anything they put on the car. Dude, just be firm with them, if they refuse, walk away.
If you go into settings to either vehicle or system settings you can find lane departure mitigation and then you can adjust the “sensitivity (forgiveness) “ by changing to a wide road setting. Although it says road departure it will help with LKAS also

I've had a few various Civics my latest a 2019 Sport with CTV which is okay but I actually preferred by 2015 Civic SI with the 6 spd. manual which easily out-handled these newer larger models. I do agree, these cars are now so full of technology that is annoying or in the case of digital menus and displays that are confusing to work your way through. I'm surprised they did not build the 2021 Sport with the better looking center exhaust that is on previous models? I agree that new gas gauge display is not user-friendly, very poor positioning for something that is necessary to be able to see.
Yeah as time passes and newer models come out things change some for the better and some for the worse but each car has it own unique advantages.
The 2022 civic sport hatch does come with dual center tips where as the 2022 civic si comes with 3 in the center and yes the fuel gauge could be placed elsewhere that would be nice

I like these types of videos to see if there any negative thing I don't like about the car because I plan on buying it.
I owned a 2016 accord for 6 years…..maintenance was beyond simple….they designed it that way. That little car was amazing, never gave me any issues. I did regular tunes when necessary but overall Honda engine outlasts ANY domestic engine on any day. A lot of the things you mention are so insignificant to the performance of the the overall vehicle. I’ve driven GMC for years and let me tell you, it’s like night and day. Also, the starters are rebuilt and designed to sustain the constant start and stop feature, if it goes out then just fix it, it’s not complicated.
Until your ac goes out.
My 2022 rattles real bad - also had to get Michelins to reduce road noise - but I do love the turbo - get one with a turbo highly recommend

Unfortunately that start/stop thing is the new norm. I’m just glad it has the ability to shut it off because my Malibu doesn’t have that option. I do wish there was a memory or something to keep that off so you could just turn it off one time and keep it off
The only time I would use the auto start and stop feature is if I knew beforehand that my car would be waiting in line completely stopped for several minutes like at a busy drive-thru or sometimes when I pump gas at a busy location (Costco). Other than that it is annoying and I don't use it in my 2024 sport hatch (2.0L) 6MT.
I have a newer Subaru and the auto start/stop annoys me too. It also can’t be disabled permanently; you have to shut it off each time you get in the car. I’m told the manufacturers gets an incentive from the federal government for meeting mileage numbers to have this feature (makes sense i guess) but it only counts if it’s enabled by default…ridiculous if you ask me. I’ve noticed in the Subaru, there are about a dozen things you can do to instantly turn your engine back on if you hear it shut off…like a hard press on the brake.

if you cant see the gage, that means your steering is high
Yes I realized that after making the video. I have since lowered the steering wheel and can see the gauge just fine, but still would have liked the gauge to be in a different spot
It's called Lane Keep Assist, bud. I don't mind it, except it only works under certain conditions. For example, it does not work at night, when raining with poor visibility, which is when it would be most helpful! When it's nice and bright in daylight, I can see the damn lane markers myself!
Put the steering wheel a little down and that would solve your gas vision problem, not just that but the steering wheel should be all the way down so it can mimic a true sport car. Having it all the way up its like a grandma driving. Every time I buy a car or borrow a car or rent a car that's the first thing I do, I put it all the down so I can drive it like a sport car, it's more fun and you can drive better cause it's not on your eye vision when you driving looking at the road.
Thanks for the suggestion and comment, I later realized that day that it was up higher bc of my wife. I have lowered it since and can see the gas gauge but I still feel that they could’ve put it in a different place on the dash tho.

The 1.5t optional CVT seems to be a strain on the engine. I wish Honda developed an in house dual clutch transmission.
Dual clutch in a Honda would be amazing. It would be the Japanese Audi !
Just got my 2022 Civic Sport about a month ago. Great car. I really do like it a lot, but I agree with you about the auto start/stop and the lane departure warning. I know about turning on/off the lane keep assist, but I want to be able to completely disable the lane departure warning, and I haven’t read anything or seen any videos about completely disabling that. Were you saying you found a way to disable that just by playing around with the settings?

Love my SI but I hate the wipers. I can’t believe u didn’t mention how bad the wipers are. Every aspect of them is terrible. Design and functionality are very poor
LOL.. Fuel Gauge placement you can change. Guess you are not familiar with the different mode selections/ layout of the digital Instrument cluster. Buy the device for $100 that bypasses the Idle Stop, it does not void the warranty and saves plenty of headaches. Pushing that switch every time getting in the car is a pain. You could just push the button to go from Eco Mode to Sport Mode and don't worry about Idle Stop until the next time out driving. Have you read the owner's manual? The Touring trim has dual exhaust pipes. You can either get a heat shield installed to protect the front catalytic converter or get your engine bay rust proofed. Catalytic converters get extremely Hot so do not touch. For screen glare, place a sun screen over your Instrument Cluster 10-inch screen and the 9-inch Infotainment screen. LOL Put some sunglasses on them, sonny. Oh! The Civic is still noisy, requires more deafening material and wear ear muffs, ear plugs or crank up the radio volume. Civic is 59 decibels, and the Mazda 3 is at 55 - 56 decibels. Bose stereo system in Civic Touring is okay with 12 tiny speakers, heard better as the problem lies with the cheap tiny Bose speakers. No seat lumbar back support depends upon your own spinal issues if you need it or not.
About the exhaust
Look at boba & jango fett… they only got one helmet antenna right? There’s your answer (symmetry is sometimes overrated) but I feel you sometimes I’d like symmetrical exhaust but then I come back to same idea of boba & jango

Hands down Honda civic 2022 is best looking car in that price range. Nothing even comes close in its design and reliability. I mean sure we have Toyotas but you know how boring it is to drive them and frankly they lack that modern look civic offers. I would go for Civic anyday.
to be fair, most cars if not all nowadays have that auto stop/start crap. My '20 Ridgeline included. Hate it, but usually I run the AC and the truck stays on despite stopping.
You should of gotten the Corolla SE. It doesn't have all that annoyance like the Civics do. Plus it has dual exhaust.
And not nearly as sporty looking as the Civic. Trust me I love Toyotas but they need it step up on the look of the Corolla,

Those worried about start/stop causing engine wear shouldn't. Google cars most likely to last over 200k miles. You will see the prius on that list, which start/stops more frequently than the Honda. I cant vouch for the starter, as the Prius uses the electric motor for that job. I can say changing that starter is much easier and cheaper than the hybrid counterpart. I will be replacing my 192k mile Prius with the Civic 2.0 Hatch manual.
Thanks for your comment and insight about the start/stop feature, as it may not be as bad in the vehicles as we feel it is some may still have mixed opinions about the feature.
Tilt/cruise were already popular features several decades ago. Did you tilt the steering wheel downward sufficiently to see the fuel gauge?
The Sport does not have a sporty engine (just steering shift pedals). Only the Sport Touring does, therefore dual exhaust “tips”?
Why is there no temperature gauge??? How much more would it add to the price to put in a temperature gauge? I’d have no problem spending the extra little bit of money on it, knowing that I won’t be blind to my engine overheating when I drive it.
Is the steering wheel tilted?!? Is there a feature that you can adjust the steering wheel so you can see the fuel gauge?
Many new cars nowadays come standard with auto start/stop, it’s hard to find one without it, unless you get a hybrid or EV.
From what I understand it’s supposed to help save fuel and I guess that’s why they don’t because they run mostly off electric
