I agree I'm 37 and I think the whole trance scene peaked at around 98-04 before the quality in production dropped but it was defo 88-94 that started it all with the rave scene anything that happens now in dance music is for posers with below-average DJs that only party for their instgram image but one thing that never goes out of fashion is good house music.
progressive trance has destroyed proper trance, it's a shame..but gotta try and cash in on the pop scene ASOT 1000 episode was a wake up call to people like Armin. Ferry even said "there's been a vacuum of that sound for..so long that i think people liked it" (talking about Gouryella tune he released that had some old System F leads in it).

With Drum 'n' Bass it all got the same beat when what it came from Hardcore and Jungle) was full of creative fills and even melodic snare rolls; with Trance it had everything from Acid to Eurphoric melodies and smooth angelic vocals then turned into airy side-chained substanceless cookie-cutter tracks largely indistinguishable from the last. More change happened to Hardcore from 1991 to 1995 than has happened to Drum 'n' Bass from 2003 - 2023! More happened to Trance from 1990 - 2003 than 2004 - 2023.

i quite like this one a lot, it sounds rather catchy and i don't mind the i guess radio/pop style of it at the start, it does develop into a proper trancer tho. also im not sure why, but i really really just like the male vocal in the background saying "my love" or is it "my heart" at like 2:45 - i think it really just adds to the overall vibe and theme

(And certainly could've gone that way). But it isn't! It's just good, and catchy & powerful! In my experience, those people who are always looking down their nose & calling Travis like this one "cheesy" are the people who take themselves WAY too seriously; and who have forgotten that dance music is meant to inspire, and even provoke, induce or require dancing! And that the place where we go to experience this is called a PARTY for a reason! And it is supposed to be FUN, happy, uplifting, inspiring, energizing, hypnotic & emotive! Mostly I feel bad for them, but they also piss me off because they try to make others feel guilty or simple or somehow "less than" if they enjoy this; basically because they're bitter & jaded... And misery lives company. And that sucks! And it's bullshit!

Probably my second favorite of his contributions to the series after Transcendental Euphoria (esp. that 2nd disc!). I'm telling that series was amazing & I'm so blessed that I discovered it because it was fairly obscure in the U.S. I stumbled upon Matt Darey's Pure Euphoria (Level 4) for $4 at a used record shop. I was just beginning to discover the scene; I had no idea who anybody was at that point. But I read the notes in the cover and I was impressed, and then I saw a remix of Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings - a piece which we had analyzed in my music theory class, so it was the perfect "door" to help me understand more about the music, and getting about 40 songs for $4, I figured I couldn't go wrong! LOL And WOW! Wasn't that the understatement of the year?! The 2nd disc is really something special! So much more musical sensibility than most mixes of the time. Only a handful of DJs were mixing harmonically, and I have yet to hear any like that! It flowed so logically and seamlessly from one track to the next, it was like an electronic symphony. And that was Matt Darey's first DJ mix EVER, although he had been producing for years!
