So rare to find someone presenting information and , 1 knows what his talking about , 2 does it in a lively somewhat comical way, 3 gives real info with examples and 4 makes it a enjoyable learning session. Really enjoyed and learned a lot thank you sir
WTFFFF 2015 views ?! this video is a thousand times more pedagogical than most of the videos I've seen on the subject, great work ! This definatly needs more visibility
So my lecturer didn’t record our EQ class and uploaded literally the last 15 minutes with no explanation of how EQ works and just gave us a paper that told us what to cut and boost... never telling us how to do it... this helped a lot. Thank you. Like I honestly needed this
I know I'm woefully late in commenting on this, but holy shit. This is the first informative video explaining things that I am a noob to, that I didn't feel like I had to drag myself through 5 minutes in. A) not boring me to death with so much technotalk that I get confused, but enough to make sense and learn important terms (no rambling). B) Concise explanations with some examples (with the edition of a friendly manner). C) Makes me feel good knowing there is someone else that uses hands to demonstrate visually...what every word being spoken looks like. It didn't feel like it was over 20 mins. So nice.
My goodness! I'm so happy I found your video explaining about EQ. I've view many other videos, but your delivery is the best, it's educational, practical and entertaining at the same time. I'm pretty sure I'll be watching this video over and over again. There's just so much to take in in one sitting. Thank you so much for making this video. I'm actually using what I've learned from you to do some adjustments on my home Hifi 2way system. After trying out some of your advice, it's already sound much better than my original settings. Thanks again, and hope you will do more videos on this subject. Really enjoyed this video 👍🏻
You made something scary simple and easy to understand. The natural humor enhancsd the experience. Thank you. I'm excited to get back to my production after viewing this. Side note: I typed in "EQ 101" and was going to bypass this when I saw what looked like a amateur video of a guy in his room lol. But something told me to no be so closed and I found what was actually a more professional and easy to understand video than a lot of these larger channels. Again THANK YOU.
So helpful! This is one of the best EQ explanation videos i've ever seen, i was looking to improve my ambience sounds and came thru this. Gold! Thank you!
I don’t know if you’ll ever see this comment but I really wanted to thank you. I’m not in the habit of writing comments on UA-cam so that’s saying a lot actually 😁 I recently bought a digital guitar processor and that being my very first experience with *any* guitar pedal, I was a little lost on how to balance everything to sound good and close to what I have in mind. And the thing that I was lost THE MOST was EQ settings. I was just trying everything and everything and not getting any satisfying result. Then I found this video and now I know what I’m doing as what I should or shouldn’t do. I watched a lot of videos about this but this was the only one that made me really understand what’s what and what for. Your narration is top notch, and your sincerity and friendliness really comes out through the screen. You know what you’re talking about, you give definitive examples, and you do all that with making a 20 minutes “lesson” video entertaining and interesting and without making it boring. That’s really something. Thank you, really really thank you for this video. You sir, have just gained one more subscriber!
Thank you so much for this video, I've been using it to help train some of the sound guys at my church, (already hearing huge improvements from all of us) . I also sent it to my cousin who is training a new guy at their production company. I love how simple you made it, so easy to understand everything and you kept it interesting as well. I cannot thank you enough for this video . Thank you, thank you, thank you
Thank you, especially liked the clarity of the video. The bit about 3k was refreshing to hear as I have been pulling it out on so many tracks and doubting whether it should be done so dramatically. Good job Aaron.
I have been running live sound regularly for the last 6-7 years and more focused the last 3-4 years. I have always wanted a good tutorial on EQ. I plan on taking these notes and applying them right away as a template/framework and then making them my own. Thank you for sharing a screenshot of your wisdom with the world. I just made the jump from analog to digital live sound, so understanding shelves, bells, cue's etc... is really helpful. Thank you Aaron! #rthalum #groove
I had an old Rane ME 15 equalizer given to me some years ago and never even tried it out until today, have been using my 6-band EQ on my Mackie 16 channel Firewire desk only, with my Martin OM28V accoustic guitar fitted with an L.R. Baggs Ibeam Active pickup. And Wow! The sound quality through my Rane equalizer was much, much better. I will always use it now, that's for sure.
Thanks for the information! You made it really easy to unerstand and that shows. Thanks for the effort, this is the only informative video I found on this subject I'm interested at. Have a great day.
I came just for advice on what setting to use on my stereo and instead got some of the best understanding on sound ever, thanks so much man! Btw i love me some snare too , that Audioslave, Deftones or Rage Against The Machine type tone is what i live for
i like the 2k on your vocal man :-)) Its like you re doing weather forecast from the storm. Thanks for the usefull advices, if someone have no experience on eq it's so damn difficult to understand the diferences (except your 2k vocal, these was a great example :-)
Ive been trying to set my parametric equalizer manually to tame my harsh center channel sound. This video has opened the door on how to actually begin the process. Thanks so much.
You're so right about that feeling in the chest with the drums, thats why I love listening to rock and metal, some rap. Im still confused on how to setup my Graphic Equalizer on my dad's stereo system however ):
Great video! I just got a new sound system in my car and I was really curious about my EQ settings, this helped me understand a little better! Can't wait to experiment.
Big thanks, enjoy how you speak with your hands btw lol it certainly helps in this context haha! Im new to recording and editing, what are some other aspects of editing that are important for beginners to know?
Most car stereos that have a Low, Mid and High are typically at these set frequencies, 100Hz, 1kHz and 10kHz. I wasn't aware of the 300Hz thing, I will check this out next time I am EQ'ing something... Thanks bro!!
GREAT VIDEO!! Thank you!! Quick question with regards to the Waves Channel EQ. On their website they have an SSL-E Channel and an SSL-G Channel plugin pack. Is there one, the other or both you recommend? I'm still brand new to EQ so I kiiiiinda don't know anything other than what you just shared. Thanks again!!
Very good video! Obviously he has done a lot of mixing. But one thing you guys may want to consider when adjusting your EQ is how well you hear certain frequencies. The only way to do this is to have a hearing test done. Many musicians (and people like me) who went to a lot of concerts have hearing loss! 😂 Sometimes very significant hearing loss. Lol. I have bass biased ears. Meaning I hear low notes very well. But anything in the mid and high frequency ranges have to be at about 70 decibels or louder for me to be able to hear it. So the bottom line is adjust your EQ to what you like and what you can hear well or what you can’t hear well. My EQ looks more like a “frown” because of my hearing loss in the mids and highs. 😁 Just food for thought! 😎
This is a great video thank you. I have one question do parametric equalisers generally let you equalise at more than 2 points? I have the boss GT100 and I can basically set two points either in the low or high gain areas, I was just wondering if a software option would let you filter out in more places if you had a high Q value? Thanks again :)
Hello Aaron, thank you for your very nice explanation of how an eq works. There i am not mixing music myself but only listen to music i still have a question. When i am listening to my music i find at some tracks especially on woman voices, but also on some instuments like electric piano that it can be harsh, shrill or irritating to my liking. Which frequenties should i bring down on my eq when you hear this, offcourse whitout losing clearity and brightness? Thank you in advance for your answer. Danny.
Hi Aaron, How do you equalize a piano, electronic drum set, electric acoustic that are all running into the same audio mixer (Behringer QX 2224USB)? At the moment, I have the QX outputting to an equalizer (same one at the beginning of your video - the still image), then from the EQ to the AMP which outputs to two speakers and two stage monitors. On the mixer are the Roland keyboard, 5 mics, drums and guitar. Plus, two wireless mics - also Behringer. Thanks and awesome video. I am a novice but learned a lot from your video.
Heck yeah dude! Thanks for all the tips. I’ve been trying to figure out why my mixes don’t come out sounding big, I’m going to put some of these tips to use tomorrow when mixing this new song I recorded. 🤘🏽 thanks again broskies
Yes you can EQ anything! I'd have to know exactly what you were going for to give you advice on EQ in EZ Drummer though -- there's not really any "general" EQ advice I'd give

Could you do a video on using a vintage EQ (like a HK EQ8) in your stereo system?
very useful information..... I take the note.... good job..... thank you......
Agree with you on 4K in electrics (but it can of course get harsh). That's why some "bright" switches on amps are a boost around 4K.
