Hey Mac, it's been a while.
Yep you are right, we did away with the old canvas view that we pioneered in 2020. Everything we are releasing as part of CartFlows 2 will be in 3 phases. This is the first phase which is focused UI/UX.
Phase 2 we are focused on helping users with the biggest challenges to making a profitable funnel and that is making the sales pages, landing pages, marketing copy, imagery, etc. We have been working on an AI-powered layout builder for the past 2 years that will solve this problem for users.
Phase 3 we are bringing back a new visual builder. Having a visual builder is nice for complex funnels, however we surveyed our users and most have simple funnels and prefer the current layout. Either way, choice is good and we will have both.
But you have to walk before you run, and we are more focused on solving real challenges users face.
We should catch up. Hope everything is going great for you.

Yes, a visual builder would be better when you have complex funnels with 'yes' and 'no' paths away from a single step, branching off in multiple directions. Only advanced marketers will build such funnels. Great to hear this will be added later.

I am still struggling to understand why I need "funnels" at all?

You need them if you sell products or services. What funnels do is to offer related products upsells or downsells during the checkout process.
