First, let me tell you that your spelling isn’t accurate.
It should be la ilaha illa Allah.
That would be closer to the written words in Arabic: ‏لا اله الا الله
The translation that I would tend to is: There is no other deity but the one god.
La = ‏لا = No (Negation of what is going to follow)
illaha = اله = deity (In that context it is a better translation than “god”)
illa = ‏الا = except
Allah = ‏الله = the one God.

Acceptance of Dua
Narrated ‘Ubada bin As-Samit: The Prophet “Whoever gets up at night and says: - ‘La ilaha il-Allah wahdahu la Sharika Lahu Lahu-lmulk, waLahu-l-hamd wahuwa ‘ala kullishai’in Qadir. Al hamdu lil-lahi wa subhanal-lahi wa la-ilaha il-lal-lah wa-l-Allahu Akbar wa la hawla Wala Quwata il-la-bil-lah.’ (None has the right to be worshipped but Allah. He is the Only One and has no partners. For Him is the Kingdom and all the praises are due for Him. He is Omnipotent. All the blessings are for Allah. All the glories are for Allah. And none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, And Allah is Great, And there is neither Might nor Power Except with Allah). And then says - Allahumma, Ighfir li (O Allah! Forgive me). Or invokes (Allah), he will be responded to, and if he performs ablution (and prays), his prayer will be accepted.” (Bukhari)
Freedom from H ell
Narrated `Utban bin Malik Al-Ansari: who was one of the men of the tribe of Bani Salim: Allah’s Messenger came to me and said, “If anybody comes on the Day of Resurrection who has said: La ilaha illal-lah, sincerely, with the intention to win Allah’s Pleasure, Allah will make the H ell-Fire forbidden for him.” (Bukhari)
In Sufism Dhikr La Illah Ila Allah made that everyday for 1000 time or more.
