    Bucket heads are awesome. Definitely a must have. I do most of my water changes through my sump with it. It does have a float and you can hear the noise change when it’s full but by lifting the hose it will overfill and spray out the back .

    • @InappropriateReefer
      @InappropriateReefer  6 років тому

      That's probably what I did when it was squirting water out back, I probably lifted the hose while the bucket was full

      How do you seperate the detritis from the water? Does it have a filter?

  • @cherrelle3231

    It might be worth vacuuming some tap water after just to flush out the tank water so it doesn’t corrode it long term.
    Ps, great idea, just brought a bucketvac!

    Emily is too funny lmao hahaha but I was wondering if you connected a hose to that hole that you said would start shooting water if you hooked a hose and put it in a drain wonder if that would work might be worth trying out so you don’t have to worry about overflow

    There is a float valve in the buckethead that automatically shuts down the suction when the bucket gets full--water won't start shooting out the back. Also, you can put a piece of tape on the inlet of the hose to decrease the flow; that'll give you more time in the sump to vacuum up the detritus as it slows down the suction.

    • @InappropriateReefer
      @InappropriateReefer  6 років тому

      Hmm, I swear water shot out last time I over filled, let me test it out next time, great to know if there is a float valve (makes sense). Good tip on this and taping the inlet to decrease flow, thank you!

  • @frankzhang9952
    @frankzhang9952 6 років тому

    If you tape off half of the tube opening, it'll suck less quickly, giving time to clean a bigger area before emptying the bucket

    Your space invader pectinia looks great & the frag that was cut healed up nicely. I have one in my 75g that I have to place in the front corner of the tank because of its sweepers. ☺

    Interesting frag / server room.. I would show this video to anyone who says they don't have room for a frag / qt tank. As for your tank are you not worried when the space invader grows it will sting the micros (acans).

    I havnt cleaned sump in years! LOL. Cant get syphon since its so low. I recently bought have a very expenive shop vac But not sure if I can get it clean enough. Any recommendations because I hate to put out money on two and how do you seperate detritis from water? Does it have a filter

    • @InappropriateReefer

      Try the Buckethead from Home Depot and let me know how it works out for you! 👍

    • @InappropriateReefer
      @InappropriateReefer  11 місяців тому

      Just reread and saw that you already bought a shop vac; I typically just vac out water and detritus at the same time (I’d do 4-5 bucket full from the sump during water change); and just make new saltwater to replenish and count it as a water change. Not sure how we could save the water if we use shop vac, regular siphon we could tie a mesh bag at the end

    We call my Space Invader the investment coral - I’ve had it for almost two years and it has grown from two eyes to almost 30. Now I just need to get up the nerve to frag it....😱 Jim made it look easy! Enjoyable video once again - get well soon! Give yourself some time to recover! 😁

    • @telegraham
      @telegraham 6 років тому +1

      Super easy, Reefgrrl. Just snip, glue and wait! The parent will recover quickly.

    • @InappropriateReefer
      @InappropriateReefer  6 років тому

      Thank you Reefgrrl! Rough week but feeling a whole lot better now! Just in time to start putting together the next video, lol. Two eyes to 30 eyes, that's some awesome growth, hope it will help pay off some new additions. ;-)

    • @Reefgrrl
      @Reefgrrl 6 років тому

      Yep, though part of me wants to see how big I can grow it as a colony. I traded my Paly grandis colony in at the fish store for credit (it was the size of a melon and really didn’t suit my tank any more ☹️ Tough decision but I need to learn to better curate my coral collection). And my 10” toxic green cabbage leather went there too, in trade for the gold torch and for the same reason. Fish store guy has sold over 20 frags of it so far because veryone who comes in notices it right away and wants a piece, which makes me feel good and is very much off-topic here....though, maybe not....I guess he is a ready customer for any space invader frags I might be courageous enough to produce.....🤔
      MAN, am I ever chatty today....🙄

    Love the Buckethead for the down and dirty cleaning. Been using it for years since learning it from a fellow WAMAS member. Really handy when you can't clean the bottom because you can't get a good siphon going in a sump near the floor. When you're not using it for your tank, it's handy for other small chores, too. We use it on the car and I'll use it to clean up after doing a little drywall work or wood work in the house in the winter.
