- About the best all round soundtrack I have heard. This is from the Songcatcher soundtrack which was released in 2001. It is a compilation album of musical stars and if you like the music, check out the movie! They did release a different soundtrack later for musical purists like me who were upset that they didn't have the original songs on the soundtrack, but this is still one of the best soundtracks I have heard. Enjoy!!!
I loved the movie and especially this song, as my mom used to sing this. She went to heaven this past Easter Sunday.
By far the most beautiful version of this song I have ever heard!
This version captures the whispering wind, and the melancholy of broken hearts on the horizon. Beautiful.
I simply can not get over the fact that the Song Catcher movie should have win some academy awards. Unbelievable. I am absolutelly speechless with the voice of Roasanna Cash and Emmy Harris interpretation; absolutelly priceless. and here I am thinking that nobody could sing this song better than Pernell Roberts (our man in Black, Adam from Bonanza). Ms. Cash did an amazing work.
PORTES PORTES I think the music is wonderful & so was the movie. I don't understand how the system works, but often the big stars & the big money have a lot of influence. This wasn't a 'big star' vehicle. I have a Playlist with the music on my Channel. It's "SOUNDTRACKS" and has The Songcatcher in it if you ever want to listen. My best to you, Moppet
+MyMoppet52 I just saw your comment and I made me laugh when you refer to me as your Moppet. I went to our site, my goodness you have excellent taste for music. I pass your site to my friends from 3 different countries. I do love the songcatcher immensally and Rosana Cash is absolutelly breathless. congratulations. My best to your, Moppet.
@irvabercrombie I loved the movie & the song. My mom would not watch movies. She couldn't sit still long enough & got bored. She called my aunts & they came. I think they all watched this 4 times total. (They grew up in the mtns) I lost my mom 3 years ago Christmas week. I know a bit how you feel & it's always hard. Especially around a holiday. We have the knowledge that we'll see them someday. I am still sorry for your loss though. Thanks for taking the time to comment, Barbara
An amazing movie for a history nerd
💗
love the music and the film. best all around for me!
@missShylocks You are more than welcome. It is a very good version. I love the entire album so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! You are right, Rosanna does a fantastic job. Come back for a listen whenever you want. My best, Barbara
I love this song so much
Lovely....
Come all ye fair and tender ladies
Take warning how you court your men
They’re like a star on a summer’s morning
They first appear and then they’re gone
They’ll tell to you some loving story
Then declare they love you well
And away they’ll go to court some other
And leave you there in grief to dwell
I wish to God I’d never seen him
Or in my cradle I’d died
To think a fair and tender lady
Was once in love and then denied
I wish I was some little sparrow
One of those that fly so high
I’d fly away to my false lover
And when he’d speak, I would deny
Love is handsome, love is charming
Love is beauty while it’s new
Love grows old, love grows colder
Fades away like morning dew
Oh! the memories...now pass the jug an we'll git to singin'
Thanks so much for listening and taking the time to leave your cryptic comment. I'll listen as y'all sing. My best to you, Moppet
Seldom Scene did a pretty decent version of this one. Rosanna's is haunting, so haunting. And beautiful.....
December 29, 2014, Austin, Texas - Dear Rosanna Cash, This is a very interesting song and disturbing for me to hear because I've been 'in love' with Shawn Colvin for many years now and have done my best to court her. I have not so much as kissed anyone for over 7 years now. My words have sometimes wavered as I travelled through the many, many pitfalls and trials that inevitably appear as one pursues the one they know to be 'the one'. I know that Shawn is 'the one' for me. I have no control over the outcome of this courting but I ask you to be kind and to know that I love her more now than ever. I make many mistakes and I recover from them and find myself always more deeply 'in love' with her. I absolutely adore her. I know that she's been through a lot too and I hope only to make her life easier and more pleasurable as we all are so much older now. I love you too Roseanna though I don't think I've ever written to you I have admired you from a distance since day one and, as you know, I admire John L. very deeply and I'm thrilled that you two are together. Please, if you know that Shawn is troubled by my presence in Austin or my continued attempts to court her...please let me know directly. The complexity of what has been put on 'our' plate is very difficult to explain. Shawn tried to do it herself for many years and I watched in wonder and awe while not knowing what to do. We know that God's timing is perfect and that all the mistakes we all have made are part of the great plan. So, please join me in a prayer that what is best in God's eyes for Shawn will be fulfilled. I pray that she will have me as a spouse. I make no bones about it. I love your voice too Roseanna and I have seen your great, great heart many times. Thank you and God Bless You Forever. I have felt your Father's great spirit many times already while here in Austin where he is so rightfully adored. He is adored in Heaven even more and is known there as a great Angel of God. Peace/Love/Healing Arthur
To fellow lovers of this song, check out the version by Tim O'Brien and Lunasa. Sublime.
Lovely version of this folk song but can anyone give me the chord sequence of the instrumental break after the 3rd verse of Rosanne's song. It's driving me crazy trying to pick it up from the sound track !!!!
Five people never met no fair and tender ladies...
