For anyone wondering why they give extra songs for Japan: physical albums are a bit more expensive than in EU or US, and people are actually buying it, so many bands choose to gift their Japanese fans.
The way that chorus riff is so hauntingly mournful, juxtaposed with the headbanging brutality of the verses...

this was the first song i ever heard from them my sophomore year in algebra. i remember easily being some of the best metal i’d ever listened to. i actually got to meet trevor two years later and smoked a bowl with him. i could tell he was a humble genuinely good person. rip trevor.

Listen to Arsis, it’s Ryan’s old band they are also very tech-y and melodic and they sound pretty similar to black dahlia. Basically just a more thrash version of black dahlia with carcass vocals, that’s the best way to describe Arsis.

An incredible song that few people know or value. Beautiful and dark riffs, excellent vocals, monster drums, an incredible bass weight, and a very good production. I love, admire, and almost always hear this song.

David Bender it did but only on the Japanese release, they have extra tracks on Europe release of "Abysmal" called "hellion" and "Der Ton" as well. They do those because the record company in their country asked for extra songs to hype up the album more basically

Todd Webb It was written and partially recorded during the writing process of Ritual, only finished later on in the process of recording Everblack.
@@toddwebb2862 I asked Ryan if he could play/teach the solo during a livestream and he said he played it literally only once during the recording of this song :/ hope Brandon fills in sometime during a show.

Phantom limb is actual about a rare phenomenon in the brain where during development a limb forms properly but there is an error in the connection to the brain this makes the individual feel like its not their arm or leg or whatever and drives them to want to cut it off-- its a lot more detailed then what i can describe but its called Body Integrity Identity Disorder
So, I just got caught up on the news for this album, as well as the lineup changes.
I'm gonna miss Shannon... man, what a drummer.
Since Ritual they seem to be bringing a little more melody to the forefront, which isn't a bad thing really, bands must evolve after all.
I will always hold the same respect for this band no matter what decisions they choose.

Nah, no way. From a musician's view, this album is just as solid as their previous installments. I still feel that Nocturnal was their best album to date. That one was just a masterpiece. Deflorate, Ritual, and Everblack, all amazing in different ways. But that's what I LOVE about The Black Dahlia Murder. You never know what to expect, only that it is going to be fucking bad ass!

They should have ended the album with this song, it should be on every copy. This is the most Swedish sounding MeloDeath song BDM have ever written. It reminds me of At The Gates and Dark Tranquility so much it's fucking brutal.
There was a call from the Japanese metalblade demanding a exclusive bonus track. BDM didn't have a choice. it was supposed to be the prize or secret or whatever at the end of the mystery thing. that is information i got from the band directly.
