Great tip Aubrey! Some stubborn plugs I find you need to bang in the wall especially on a hollow wall! 👍🏻

I used to use the screw method but found it unpredictable as to how much damage it would cause. So I now just chip/ cut the head of the plug with a scraper or a chisel . The remaining plug in the wall helps with filling the hole .

You could try applying two coats of Zinsser Bullseye 123 followed by one or two coats of water based satinwood or acrylic eggshell. Hope all goes well for you 😊

I just bang them deeper into the wall, using a screw, then fill them. A lot less mess. Each to their own.

Hi Aubrey, I've just found your channel and subscribed. You give some excellent advice. On that subject, please may I ask you a question? I have been on several forums trying to get this clear in my mind. I am 71 now and need to cut down on extra work wherever I can. I am wanting to apply lining paper on top of existing washable patterned paper, which is vinyl. They all say it is a no-no and won't stick. The thing is, my entire house has plastered walls that have been painted directly with both silk and matt emulsions. I have papered these walls with 1200 lining paper and then emulsioned the paper. The finish is superb, and I have 3 rooms that were done over 10 years ago and still look perfect. There is no sign of the lining paper not sticking to a previously emulsion painted wall. What is the difference between a vinyl silk paint finish and a vinyl wallpaper finish? They are both washable.

Hi, I would not advise applying wallpaper over vinyl wallpaper. The vinyl wallpaper is designed to repel water for example when it is being wiped over or washed with water. The applied paste would not be able to dry out correctly and may even stay wet for a prolonged period encouraging mould growth. Glad to hear you had a good experience with applying the lining paper on the previous walls Bob.

@@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating Thanks for the reply Aubrey. I guess old emulsion paint is probably still more porous than a vinyl wallpaper. I was just trying to save work, but I will get it stripped now just to be on the safe side.

    • @AubreysAbsoluteDecorating

You will first need to apply a coat of thinned matt emulsion. This will prevent the vinyl silk looking patchy.
