Regarding dorm living, typically...
Under the trainee contract:
1. It is mandatory for all foreign trainees to live in the company's dorms.
2. For Korean trainees under 16 it is optional with parent/guardian permission to live in the company's dorms and it is required during training projects.
3. For Korean trainees over 15 it is mandatory to live in the company's dorms.
Under the standardized 7 year debut contract:
1. It is mandatory during the first 4 years of the debut contract to live in the company's dorms.
2. Depending on how successful the group is, living in the dorms becomes optional after the 4th year of the debut contract and is required during projects/comebacks.
3. Dorm living is no longer required are the debut contract ends. Around year 7 is when the company will actively encourage their artist to obtain their own residence and the artist will end up getting kicked out if they don't move after their debut contract ends.
