I'm a non-cruiser (who just happened to fall down this rabbit hole on youtube. Love the channel) but Virgin Voyages is the line I would like to take one day. The way they treat their staff and unlimited food options is what sold me.
I really like the "bar tab" idea; a drink package ends up being too many drinks (you have to get your money's worth lol) so this prepaid discounted version sounds perfect., I also like to get coffees and milkshakes etc so win win.
I’m a solo cruiser in my late 40’s, decided to join friends on a virgin 3 night cruise… best cruise experience ever, but I totally get it’s not going to be for everyone, and that’s what’s so awesome about it… great interview 👍
I much prefer the "bar tab" over a drink package. I like the idea of getting a discount on alcohol without having to spend a fortune on a drink package.
Yeah I really like that idea, too! I occasionally travel with people that don't drink, so it's lame that everyone in the room has to get a drink package when not everyone can use it. And that feeling of "have to get my money's worth" is stressful!
I believe Shane mentioned if you spend $300 they make up to $350 - I was offered the bar tab option when booking a short cruise just a week ago and if I recall correctly the amount they make it up to started with a 4. Perhaps it varies per cruise or I have got it wrong!
With the explanation from Virgin, everything make sense. From the size of the "swimming" pool to not offer a drink package. It all tied into offering a different kind of upscale cruising and it's brilliantly executed from what I can tell. Can't wait to see Virgin's take of a family cruise against one of the best family cruise in business, Disney. In the end, even if you don't like the way Virgin cruises, you still gain by having more different options and competitions in the market where they sure would push the bar higher for all the other cruise lines.
YES! I vote lazy river. I love lazy river! That was a FANTASTIC interview, Emma! You, my darling (and, a bit of Morgan from the very unofficial travel guide). Might get me back to cruising.
@@EmmaCruises if you like lazy river and pools on cruise ships, why wouldn't you give a try to AIDA Cruises? Their four biggest ships actually have lazy river onboard, and Prima and Perla are probably the only ones with the combined outdoor/indoor pool.
@@EmmaCruises but you also tried Costa which is the most Italian possible cruise line, and I doubt there are problems with language on AIDA and TUI as well. German is closer to British than Italian 😀
I love the lazy river idea. That would be fun and different. I will say I think virgin has a point about the pools. I often see the large pools with one or two kids in them while everyone else crowed into the hot tubs.
Even the bigger pools are not actually big enough to be that useful in honesty. They're not lap pools. So I think they made a good decision here to really just make it like a cooling off area.
With their emphasis on fitness, I think if they actually had a pool you could swim in, it would be very popular! The pools you see a couple of kids in are the micro-pools like this one where you can't actually swim. The trouble is, water is very heavy, so putting a large amount of it at the top of the ship would make the ship far too top-heavy, especially in bad weather. People who think of "going to the pool" as sitting around the pool to sun-bathe want a pool that's out in the sun. However, people who swim for exercise are usually used to swimming indoors. They could put a lap pool on a *lower* deck, at or below the water line, and it would act as ballast and *improve* the balance of the ship!
I would strongly encourage Virgin to add an indoor lap pool, down on a lower deck where it's practical to place it on a ship. With such a strong focus on fitness, neglecting people who swim just doesn't make sense! It would also open up opportunity to have water aerobics classes, something my mother and her friends are very much fans of. Mom does water aerobics three days a week, and I know she makes use of the hotel pool whenever we travel (so do I, although I do laps more than water aerobics). I know water is heavy, so putting a pool at the top of the ship really messes up the balance, but I'm used to swimming indoors eight or nine months of the year anyway, so a lower level pool, as long as it's well-lit during the day, would be no problem at all!
Thanks to both of you for sharing some insight into the Virgin cruise experience perspective. The Lazy River concept for a cruise ship is brilliant! Looking forward to it! 😃
@@EmmaCruises Since I saw it on Emma's Channel, I think the meandering waterway should be called just that on Virgin Atlantic cruise ships! Then, how could you ever forget where the idea came from!!! 😆
Appreciate your questions! Honestly, the idea of this line in regards to fitness and the activities has always been exciting for me, but I think they drop the ball with the whole idea of a small pool in a cruise in which fitness is so important
I have to agree with you on that one. Maybe not everyone but some people like to swim laps or even do aquatic exercise classes if on offer. That pool doesn’t seem to be set up to accommodate any fitness activities. The deeper section of the pool doesn’t look large enough to do anything more than tred water lol.

She is a very into fun fitness, rafting, kayaks, hiking late 30s woman & would love the fun fitness class! She does not like to be around small children when doing things so just the ship for her! I like the no alcohol drink package, the food services are great & having a rich aunt that had "cruise clothes" & only use to go on cruises that had dress up, older crowds, my daughter is looking for the opposite! I do also agree the pool area to be larger & more room storage but I love the concept of the convertible bed to couch. Excellent interview, well done. This is definitely not the cruise line for me, but it's interesting what they are doing. I LOVE that they do not have a alcoholic drink package. I think it turns cruise ships into slop fests.
I have never cruised (I know, odd that I hang out here) - but I was in Ensenada once when the weekend Carnival cruise came to town. I don't think anyone who came off the boat was sober and they pretty much went straight to the bars... So yeah, the idea is definitely a winner to me. Its very likely Virgin will be the first line I ever cruise with.
Definitely approve of not including drinks! When I go somewhere with drinks included, I feel like I'm being forced to subsidize other people getting smashed and becoming obnoxious. Even if there's a "drinks package" most of the time specials and discounts end up being "drinks included" instead of giving a discount that *everyone* can benefit from. People spend mind-boggling amounts of money on alcohol, and those of us who don't like it or can't indulge for other reasons shouldn't have to pay the same price.

Yes, we heard the 'PR' response to some of the sticky questions but you have to read between the lines sometimes. Most remarkable thing is that I believe that they actually listened to Emma's first critiques of Scarlet Lady! Because of all of Emma's insights, I would cruise with Virgin if the price was right. It's probably not my first choice though. Thanks Emma!
Really like the "bar tab plan", great idea, it is true that once you buy a drink package it prompts you to drink way too much...to get your money's worth 😁🤣🍸
Nice to actually have a high ranking member of a cruise line answering the hard questions, and doing so in such a pleasant manner! Not sure if I would ever try a Virgin cruise, but I believe that some of their ideas will influence the other cruise lines, and that's what innovation is all about.
Emma, well done on your interviewing technique! It certainly accentuated the positives of Virgin's offering. I think most people will still find it strange that the pool is so small. But the freshly prepared food and reduced waste sounds excellent. Thanks for doing this.
I loved the 3 night trip on Scarlet Lady and would definitely go on it again, but would i would like to see is more daytimes activities or events that were not fitness based.
I take nothing seriously... I'd be a worst nightmare at the fitness stuff as I would most likely be goofing off more than actually participating. I don't know, maybe not... I might not goof off as I may end of feeling like I'm just wasting the crew's time, and looking like a jerk. Hard to say until I'm actually there.
I love every thing about this new cruise line and I can't wait to sail on the Scarlet Lady. I have not taken a cruise in years because they have gotten so tacky and cliche but this is exactly what I have been looking for!
Excellent interview! You asked relevant and tough questions, and then gave your guest time to respond. And kudos to him for actually addressing things! I have my first Virgin cruise coming up and I can't wait.
I think the Real Answer for the Pool is..."We F'd up" (New Line Growing Pains Maybe) . For such a Active Ship not to have a least one large Pool is a Rookie Mistake. As Emma said a nice indoor pool would be Great. Let's see what they do in the future...
Good interview. Like the drinks package. Not because I drink its worth. Never did. It is the freedom already planned. In addition I do not worry about trying something new. The main thing though is that we do not have to worry. Will try VV once the itinerary and duration is what I want. I must try. Scarlett Lady itinerary and duration does not strike my fancy. But will see. Thanks Emma
He makes a good point that people don't go in the pool to swim but to cool off. That's my experience. I'm an adult I'm not in the pool to splash around and have fun. It's a place to relax. But it does seem small. You have hundreds of people sitting by the pool and the pool looks like it could fit 50 people comfortably.
I'm not one for tech heavy things, and I'm not exactly a modernist either, however I honestly can say when I can afford it, I'd like to give Virgin a try. It's opposite of everything I like and do, but yet I feel excited enough to want to cruise with them. Never in a million years would I give a cruise like this a try, but I have this deep down feeling that I'd thoroughly enjoy myself. Does that come off as sounding strange?
Hi Emma, I'm no expert. But regarding the swimming pool, water weighs a lot. You will find on other cruise ships, that if the is a pool on the port side, there will be something similar on the starboard side just to balance the ship. Maybe in this ship's build, the design they were given may have impeded on a large pool area being created. Their ship does look very top heavy. This pool looks to be in the center of the vessel. It's all to do with the balance of the ship. I'm guessing this is the main reason, and not some PR Blurb. Great video (love your videos). Really enjoyed it. Take care
My Wife just Booked us on VIRGIN going out of FLA in Nov. IT did take a little talking but looking at the Price along with what is included it was a NO BRAINER... And after 6 Cruises Canceled in the pass year plus .... It didn;t affect Alaska and Bermuda next all is WELL...
Well that solves the mystery of the small pool size! Thank you Emma! All the cruise ships I've been on the pool on the Lido is the most popular location.
Great episode Emma, love your cruise episodes and explore what they offer , I do sail on Gay cruises which you can call adult cruises for a week. So like some of the ideas which Virgin put forward , like inclusive gym classes or all restaurants. But the other things I quiet like you can disconnect from world of internet and no soft drinks on other cruises. And the pool, yea it is so small and I’m sure they know they made a mistake with it. Plus was watching few UA-cam videos with the pool parties and they need to learn from gay cruises that it’s quiet dangerous don’t cover the pools or let people jumping in drunk. Looking forward to watch more of your videos and thank you for all your advice x
New to cruising. Did our first ever cruise on the Britannia last month and loved it so booked Anthem of the seas for October. Then going on Iona in February. Didnt really know Virgin had a cruise line (i know, shame) but Interested in having a look at future cruises. Pool size doesnt bother me as we wouldnt use it anyway. X
Fantastic as always, Emma! Whatever the size of the pool, it would never be big enough to share with 2000 people! I ''ll wait for a beach! I generally sail with very small capacity cruise lines, but my partner and I just LOVE the 60s vibe on Scarlet Lady and want to go for it! Rock Star suites of course!
Unlike a hot tub or jacuzzi which will have a fast water replacement rate (no need for chlorine), that pool with the shallows either side and a center plunge section (which I actually like the idea) I fear must be filthy if it's treated the same as a regular swimming pool.
Great interview Emma, just brilliant 👏 . I will definitely add Virgin Voyages on my list. I intend to try all the cruise lines once I get my Carnival Platinum status
As a person who has never been on a cruise (other than when I was 7 and hardly remember!), I can't WAIT to cruise on Virgin! I had never been interested in going on a cruise until VV came into the market. I love how funky it is and I *especially* love the no kids haha. Hope to book soon!
My young 20-somethings probably would enjoy it, but they don’t have the money to splurge on a cruise themselves. Instead, they come with dear old mom and dad. :)
Hi Emma, very informative video on Virgin Voyages. In listening to other cruise vloggers, those covered pretty much all of my questions. Good information for those new to cruising. Hi from Bob and Jill in Connecticut, go Chelsea Blues 💙
Thanks for a very interesting interview. You got answers to questions I would have asked and some it would have never occurred to me to ask. Now Virgin is in the mix as a cruise line I would consider.
Sofa mode was useful for me and someone else because we didn't want to share the bed so we had them make them up as single beds. Maybe if we'd asked nice enough he could have got his own cabin because the cruise wasn't packed. But it was fine.
We enjoyed our first sailing on Scarlet Lady after Emma gave it a try and we have now booked a second short cruise on Valiant Lady next year - if it wasn’t for Emma we wouldn’t have tried it.
I was going to book this cruise Tommorow 😮 tho after watching both of your vids on scarlet lady, i think the cruises with an indoor sollarium are my fave, 😅 warm relaxing and swimable, especially in europe, its a party boat, that does small circle trips, are they any quiet drink areas alcahol on this ship, included in the basic fare? 😀 great interview Emma, love your honesty, thanks
That was excellent. We are on Enchanted Lady next year and we have enjoyed cruise holidays for 20 years. We chose Virgin as a new experience and thank you for your reels; really looking forward to our break. to be fair to Virgin all the cruise lines have the 'beautiful' people in their advertising.
Given that Virgin has all the exercise equipment, could they not have a dedicated "endless" swimming pool. It is about 3m long with a jet that makes it so you can swim constantly against the jet and stay in place. I could see an equipment manufacturer actually sponsoring it to get people to try it out. You would book it for 15 minute or 20 minute swimming sessions.
My husband LOVES cruises and I’m just not a huge fan…done 2 to Hawaii and one to Mexico (we were supposed to go to Alaska last year) all on Princess. Princess is absolutely amazing, from service/accommodations etc. I’m just an outside the box kinda person, and I’m dying to book a cruise on this ship.
Great Interview! With respect to Shane I still think the pool is a disappointment. I don't both ends needed to be 'beach areas' and as much as its not advertised as a pool...people expect a pool 🤣but this isn't Shanes fault and I still think this cruise is great value especially the food 😀
OMG. I don't ever really post a comment but lazy river on cruise! I can absolutely not say words. That would be amazing! Please tell me when this happens!!!
I looked at them after I saw your review. I had a difficult time navigating their website.I also didn't care for their US cruises. They were short. If it isn't at least 7 nights, it isn't worth it for me. I did like the explanation about the "bar tab". That makes sense to me, and I loved the hammock chair.
Hi, I love your review but was wondering if you could do a review for the disabled traveler on the various ships. Thank you also when you introduced your cat my cats ears pricked up. Lol
Emma, do you know who the guy in the suit is at 6:32? I think he helped us on Scarlet Night to find somewhere slightly quieter to have a drink, and id like to say thanks
The polite term is "plunge pool," apparently. Get your feet wet, take a plunge....and you're done. I prefer pools where I can (attempt to) swim a few (very short) laps, and I'm going on a ship soon with 4 of them, but I can understand where Virgin's thinking was.
@@PaulCashman they are probably correct in saying people just want to sit next to a swimming pool rather than swim, but I think it's still very silly having such a tiny pool, it's pointless
I have to say that my idea of hell would be a cruise holiday. I never even go to all inclusive resorts. I've travelled the world and always create my own travel plan with a friend or 2 and then decide how to make sure I can mix with locals wherever I go. I've gone overland through Africa, Asia, visited the Middle East and all parts of Europe. I enjoyed Australia & New Zealand. Freedom means everything.
Well that was interesting. I’d go with them but right now that’s not going to happen. Melbourne, Aust, isn’t going to be cruising any time soon. P&O have basically cancelled the entire summer schedule, my cruise included. I know I was expecting it but when they changed itinerary to NZ I was hopeful. Now I’m left wondering why I even bothered with the vaccine which I’m allergic to. I’m beyond gutted. How long can a company keep going? It’ll be like heading towards 3 years? Is cruising dead for us Aussies? Cunard isn’t coming, P&O isn’t either. Has the tunnel collapsed on us or is there any hope at all that it won’t all have been for nothing?
You know, after the first Emma video, I kinda was turned off by the line. But after the last video, this video, and some other videos from other CruiseTubers, I think I can see myself enjoying the line, so I definitely will be trying a cruise with them. Virgin/Shane should thank Emma for somewhat converting someone to them
Emma, This is an observation not a complaint. When I was watching video, Shane's voice was distorted (he was fuzzy) and I couldn't understand him. If I turned the volume down, distortion was less but I couldn't hear either of you very well. Maybe it was a bad connection or his equipment wasn't adequate. Or maybe it was just me, since I do have some hearing difficulties. Bottom line is I couldn't understand his answers while you were very clear. Could you tell me what answer he gave about swimming pool?
No, it's not you - Emma had real problems with his sound and did the best she could with it. Basically he said that the ship will be in the Carribbean a lot and guests will be going to the beaches or private islands, so they won't be swimming in the pool onboard. The ships will staying in port later in the evening too. The ship was designed with that in mind. He thinks people will be dancing and cooling off in the shallow bits, and it is a plunge pool in the middle. When they did research no-one said they wanted to do laps of the pool. ( And Emma said she is that person who likes to do that! 😅)
If thousands of people are going to the pool to cool off, how about splash pads? And better pools.... The wading feature looked filthy. In no way do I understand the concept of the postage stamp pool. Totally not for me. Good vid, Emma. Did you ask about storage and I missed it?
I hope the line does well but I do think it caters to a younger crowd that goes for gimmicks. About the only thing I would enjoy is the hammock and I'm in my 60's. I'd like to know how they handle special diets? I have to eat in a main dining room and work out my menu on a daily basis.

Loved virgin, happy crew well treated crew, beautiful food. I’ll definitely be going again.
Not the slightest! You should trust yor gut and try it :)
Take care
Hey hey! Very true. Lots of ships have 4/5 pools though, so definitely possible. Usually in the middle though you're right :D
A lasy river on a cruise ship would be awesome!
My Wife just Booked us on VIRGIN going out of FLA
in Nov. IT did take a little talking but looking at the Price
along with what is included it was a NO BRAINER...
And after 6 Cruises Canceled in the pass year plus ....
It didn;t affect Alaska and Bermuda next all is WELL...
Yesss! Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Well that solves the mystery of the small pool size! Thank you Emma! All the cruise ships I've been on the pool on the Lido is the most popular location.
Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
Small pool makes the ship less top heavy. That is the reason. Not all the bla bla he said…
Great episode Emma,
love your cruise episodes and explore what they offer , I do sail on Gay cruises which you can call adult cruises for a week.
Haha, thanks David ❤️
New to cruising. Did our first ever cruise on the Britannia last month and loved it so booked Anthem of the seas for October. Then going on Iona in February. Didnt really know Virgin had a cruise line (i know, shame) but Interested in having a look at future cruises. Pool size doesnt bother me as we wouldnt use it anyway. X
FINALLY got a chance to watch this - great job!
Great interview having many of our questions answered, Emma!
Loved the interview. I think id like most things about this cruise, if if it fit my budget.
You probably get this a lot but your smile melts me ☺
Love these videos!
Love the lazy river idea.
Ha ha!! Remember you heard it here first ;)
Excellent work - Thank you!
Yesss!!! I love the no kids thing too, Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
(If you do happen to be in the UK, you can book through me, always happy to help! emmacruises.com/book-a-cruise/) 💕😀
I want them to do well. They're going after the younger crowd. Problem is the cost at this point.
Hey Bob and Jill!! Go Blues! :)
Thanks for a very interesting interview. You got answers to questions I would have asked and some it would have never occurred to me to ask. Now Virgin is in the mix as a cruise line I would consider.
Thanks so much Jim! :)
I would love to see a lazy river go around the entire ship.
I have never been on a cruise but I love you video's
That's very true!!! :') Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
I’m looking into Virgin cruise lines thanks to Emma and her great coverage of the line.
Ooooo yes absolutely, do it. Why not ;D
Great Interview! With respect to Shane I still think the pool is a disappointment. I don't both ends needed to be 'beach areas' and as much as its not advertised as a pool...people expect a pool 🤣but this isn't Shanes fault and I still think this cruise is great value especially the food 😀
yaaas I didn't know the crew received free wifi. Amazing, thanks Virgin for treating your employees as human first.
Thanks Emma I was wondering about the pool :)
Enjoyed the interview. Have a good day.
Good video as always and very interesting 🤔 too
OMG. I don't ever really post a comment but lazy river on cruise! I can absolutely not say words. That would be amazing! Please tell me when this happens!!!
Hahah, I hope so!! :)
tiny pools are a big issues in the Caribbean especially in the summer
I looked at them after I saw your review. I had a difficult time navigating their website.I also didn't care for their US cruises. They were short. If it isn't at least 7 nights, it isn't worth it for me.
I did like the explanation about the "bar tab". That makes sense to me, and I loved the hammock chair.
Very good interview. Keep asking those hard questions 👍
Thanks Steve! I asked what people asked me to ask... ha ha. ;)
I was just waiting for the pool question to be asked .. I hope they have a bigger pool on their other ships are maybe a water slide
Well done Emma: great interview; but am surprised you didn’t ask about the lack of storage in the cabins...
It's obvious. Less storage space - more rooms.
Amazing interview
Well done, Emma!!
Thank you for the video.
Hi, I love your review but was wondering if you could do a review for the disabled traveler on the various ships. Thank you also when you introduced your cat my cats ears pricked up. Lol
Ha ha!! 🤣❤️
Looking forward to going on a virgin cruise ship some time in the future
Emma, do you know who the guy in the suit is at 6:32? I think he helped us on Scarlet Night to find somewhere slightly quieter to have a drink, and id like to say thanks
So interesting but if Virgin will have a family cruise ship, Virgin might really want to think of putting in a lazy river/bigger pool!
I'd never want to get out of the lazy river... especially if I could have food brought to me...
Love this video!
Not much space for clothes means being creative with your baggage. Use it as additional space for non hanging items.
Great interview, not my style, but hey to each their own.
So basically the swimming pool is not actually designed to be used
The polite term is "plunge pool," apparently.
That was adorable, Emma
Great video
Thanks for watching 😀👏🏼
I've been on lots of cruises don't think I'll be taking this one
New title suggestion to optimize x-market penetration: "Stalked By Hammocks: Emma's Story"
Nice video but the swimming pool is a problem. I love to swim laps, especially on at sea days….it seems it’s more like a wading pool.
Great Chat Emma.
Thanks Dylan! :-)
The #zesty bit almost killed me 😂😂😂😂
You know, after the first Emma video, I kinda was turned off by the line. But after the last video, this video, and some other videos from other CruiseTubers, I think I can see myself enjoying the line, so I definitely will be trying a cruise with them. Virgin/Shane should thank Emma for somewhat converting someone to them
Emma,
This is an observation not a complaint.
@@gaynor247 Thank you for giving all this information. I do appreciate it.
You are very welcome Jacquelyn. 😊👍
Never saw Emma touched her hair so many times during an interview! What happened?
If thousands of people are going to the pool to cool off, how about splash pads? And better pools.... The wading feature looked filthy. In no way do I understand the concept of the postage stamp pool. Totally not for me. Good vid, Emma. Did you ask about storage and I missed it?
Not this time 😂❤️
I hope the line does well but I do think it caters to a younger crowd that goes for gimmicks. About the only thing I would enjoy is the hammock and I'm in my 60's. I'd like to know how they handle special diets? I have to eat in a main dining room and work out my menu on a daily basis.
18 days till cruise day
