I have the Q20 and I have issues with bobbin tension. After I wind my bobbin I usually check the tension on the tension meter that comes with the machine. According to the manual the bobbin case tension should be 220 but sometimes the tension all of sudden goes to 4 and I get the eyelash effect on the back of the quilt:( I’ve been using 40wt King Tut cotton on the top and Aurifil 50 wt in bobbin, my upper tension is at 4.0. Eyelashes make you think the upper tension isn’t tight enough but I think it’s the bobbin, it’s temperamental. I always wind the bobbin with the Bernina logo facing the machine and the logo facing out in the bobbin case. Personally, I think the Juki bobbin makes more sense than the Bernina one. On the Juki the bobbin thread lines up better with the little hole after the slit whereas the Bernina does not and I never have to mess with Juki bobbin. The dealer I bought it from thought the bobbin tension should read 4 😳on the meter which he never uses. I go by the 225 as suggested in the manual. I just need to find the perfect thread I think, it does better when the bobbin thread is finer than the top.

That eyelash effect... I get that when the bobbin thread slips too far from the little eyelet and gets hung up in the latch. Everytime I feel the puckering begin it's always that thread slipped. I don't think I've ever changed the bobbin tension. I use 100 wt Microquilter in my bobbin.

Just for free motion, though I've seen a few quilters use it for sewing their binding onto the quilt. :)

@@SouthernCharmQuiltscan i ask, do you know of any sit down long arm machines that you can piece on? or is everyone just using 2 machines?
