- #FindingNemo - The Musical is a live action musical stage show based on #Disney/Pixar's 2003 film Finding Nemo, located at the Theater in the Wild in DinoLand U.S.A at Disney's #AnimalKingdom.
The 40-minute show (which is performed six times daily) opened on January 2, 2007.[7] Several musical numbers took direct inspiration from lines in the film, including "Prologue", "In The Big Blue World", "The Drop Off", "Dory's Ditty", "Sharks", "Fish Are Friends, Not Food", "Where's My Dad", "The Tank Gang", "We Swim Together", "Dory and Marlin", "Just Keep Swimming", "Not My Dad", "Go With the Flow", "Gossip", "That's My Dad (Reprise)", "Darla!", "Sewage Treatment Plant", "We Swim Together (Reprise)" and "Finale - The Big Blue World (Reprise)".In January 2007, a New York studio recording of the show was released on iTunes, with Lopez and Anderson-Lopez providing the voices for Marlin and Dory, respectively. Avenue Q star Stephanie D'Abruzzo also appeared on the recording, as Sheldon/Deb. Finding Nemo was the first non-musical animated film to which Disney added songs to produce a stage musical. In 2009, Finding Nemo - The Musical was honored with a Thea Award for Best Live Show from the Themed Entertainment Association.
Finding Nemo-The Musical is arguably the most elaborate live show in any #Disney World theme park. Incorporating dancing, special effects, and sophisticated digital backdrops of the undersea world, it features on-stage human performers retelling Nemo’s story with colorful, larger-than-life puppets. To be fair, ”puppets” doesn’t adequately convey the size or detail of these props, some of which are as big as a car and require two people to manipulate.
You may not remember the movie as having many song-and-dance numbers in it, but several brand new songs were written just for this show by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. While Lopez had mostly been known for co-writing Tony-winning Avenue Q when he was asked to help create Finding Nemo-The Musical, he has gone on to do even more notable work on things like Book of Mormon and the decidedly more child-friendly score of Frozen. All this is to say that the music is quite good.
A few scenes, such as one in which Nemo’s mom is eaten, may be too intense for some very small children but those scenes go by quickly. Some of the midshow musical numbers slow the pace, so the main concern for parents is whether the kids can sit still for an entire show. With that in mind, we advise parents to catch a pre-lunchtime performance-around 11:30 a.m. would be great. If the kids get restless, you can either leave the show and have lunch, or head back to your hotel for a break.
Touring Tips
• This attraction offers FastPass+.
To get a seat, show up 15-20 minutes in advance for morning and late-afternoon shows, and 20-30 minutes in advance for shows scheduled between noon and 4:30 p.m. Access to the theater is via a relatively narrow pedestrian path-if you arrive as the previous show is letting out, you’ll feel like a salmon swimming upstream. Finding Nemo is rarely a good use of FastPass+.
