- My first flight and impressions of the DJI Avata 2.
Shot on the iPhone 15, Lumix S5IIx & DJI Avata 2.
This video was made very quickly! As shown, I was shooting in D-Log M on the Avata 2. It was a very quick colour correction in post for this one, I didn't apply any LUTS.
Audio: Original. I had written and recorded this short track a few years back just for fun, whilst testing out some audio stuff. I hadn't finished it, so yesterday I decided to do so and use it.
Thanks for watching! Please like and subscribe 🤟

I'm impressed with that first flight out of the box. My baby arrives today. Can't wait to get her in the sky. Will be my first Fpv experience. ❤🫡
Thanks Yvonne! 🙏 great news, new drone day! You’re gonna love it. Big improvement so its a good one to start on. I flew 1 more battery after that and loved it.
Awesome, Steve! We haven't tried manual mode yet, but hopefully we will soon. That seemed to fly pretty nicely in acro.
- Kris (and Kelly in spirit 😎)
Cheers Kris (and Kelly!). Good to see YT isn’t hiding my video amongst hidden shrubberies 😅 I recommend it. I flew one more battery after that but wasn’t really chatting to the camera and wanted the video to be 100% first flight. I’ve flown a couple of DIY builds before that belong to other people and I would say it had similar characteristics to a smaller freestyle drone that I tried out. It was smaller than 5”. Nice and floaty. Doesn’t feel like you’re trying to keep a potato in the air at all. Can’t wait to fly it again! (The wind is more rough again now). Yours is one of the videos I need to catch up on probably this evening as I was so hectic yesterday losing my sh*t. 😅🙏
Great content. Helpful from a beginner. Subbed
@@TerryaFPV Thank you! I really appreciate that 🙏🏼
I’m gonna get one
You’ll have a lot of fun! Its great 👌
Nice one Steve thanks for the share 👍
Cheers Mark! 🙏🏼
Thanks for the review. Guess I'm gonna have to learn to fly manual for them waterfall dives~!
No worries! 🙏🏼 As much of learning curve as it is at the very beginning, I can’t recommend it enough. Once it becomes second nature, it’s just perfect flying this way.
@@LowryDroneography-Steve thanks for being honest. I'm a bit intimidated but hopefully 20 hours of Sim helps
@@arunr5529 Don’t worry! Its nothing scary. You can go crazy in the sim without consequences, so you’ll be able to get a feel for it first of all. Took me a while before I was comfortable enough to fly low down to the ground and stuff like that in manual.. but with practice then no problem in the end!
@@LowryDroneography-Steve Thanks so much, I really appreciate the encouragement... do you think spending a few weeks and aiming for 20 hours would be a good start?
@@arunr5529 No worries! Yeah I guess it differs for different people so the time it takes might vary.. but as with most things, if you really want to do something, then that motivation helps, just got to keep going at it. Its also quite therapeutic to fly FPV, learning is a good zone to be in with this stuff.
Awesome job Steve ❤❤❤
Cheeeers! 🙏😊🙌
Very impressive
Okay, one thing I always listen for is the audio of the pilot, as well as any drone noise. I heard the drone the whole flight, what was the source microphone that picked up the drone sound, and your voice?
This was shot before I got the DJI Mic 2 kit.. so it was the Lumix S5IIx in built microphone, with the addition of post processing. That’s the only microphone present. I got lucky cos it kind of worked out ok for this, but results are way better with the external mic kit.
A few mths ago I got the DJI mini 4 pro and love that drone so much it made me 😜 buy the DJI avata 2 and yes I love that one too but they aren't cheap at around 2k once you get extra batteries and whatnot but the save was hard but worth it 👍
@@Piratepoilet Nice! Yeah technology got so good so its not cheap as a hobby, but if you balance up the price of the Avata 2 with all the kit purely, then it works out a fair bit less than some of the kits for a decent DIY build or a bind and fly.. so in that sense its pretty cool, but generally not a cheap hobby! 😅
Yes this drone doesn't like wind. Nice video
Thank you! Appreciated. Yeah I think a lot of whoops don’t, but I found this one handled better than previous which was good to know.
Do i need to hook it to my phone in any way to use it? i didn't buy the last one due to needing a phone connection. I haven't connected my phone to my dji fpv since the initial set up. I love it.
Nope! Built in GPS module to goggles. You can even live stream goggles view to your phone :)
i would love to see a full flight from the goggles with a max speed test because ive heard in the eu it is limited to only 45 not 60 if you could test this that would be great!
I’ll have a go hopefully soon when theres ideal conditions and somewhere big and open 😊
@@LowryDroneography-Steve cheers 👍
Part 3 please take it into a darkish indoor environment and lets see what that camera is capable off.
Will be doing this at some point soon as one of the parts! 🙏🏼
Love it, I just bought the Mini 4 Pro so I'd need to offload the first Avata and maybe the DJI FPV beforehand.
Cheers! Yeah sounds wise. I kinda did it the other way around, partially for work reasons but also largely for fun. Selling 2 Avata’s and the FPV drone ASAP.
@@LowryDroneography-Steve what's the best way to sell them, Facebook Marketplace is a nightmare
@@DroningaboutIrelandCouldn’t agree more and wish I had the answer! Putting them all up for sale is on my list for today, but somewhat been put back a bit so not done it yet. I have one Avata on there already as a unit only and had loads of crap or scam messages! If you figure something out before I do, let me know 😂 I’ll do same.
@@LowryDroneography-Steve few said to go on eBay but wait until they have a sellers sale so you're not getting hit 30% seller fee
@@DroningaboutIreland I’ve not used ebay in years, had no idea they did seller sales. Do you know when they happen? I tried Gumtree too for the unit only but nothing, although unit is going to naturally be harder to shift than the full pack, I assume.
Good review mate 👍
Thanks bud! 👍
Nice Steve, don't think any cinewhoop will do great when it's windy. Do you think its improvements are big enough to warrant upgrading from the original 👏👏👍
Oh yeah it’s the whoop VS wind thing, but it was definitely even an improvement in that part. I would say: for flying in manual, you’ll notice a big difference. Just the way it flies etc. Plus the camera is a lot better. This isn’t the greatest example of it due to weather and the fact I did the quickest grade ever, but there is noticeable improvement! 🙏👌
Nice! You got this quick. How is the noise compared to the previous model? Cool music too 🤟
Cheers bud! 🙏 It’s definitely a quieter design that’s for sure. It’s never going to be mega quiet but I think its less screechy! 🤟
Avata 2 or dji mini 4 pro as first drone?
Would be taking mostly landscape but if I can reduce the speed of avata like mini 4 pro cine mode then I am OK with avata 2 too.
As a beginner I don't want to crash drone also do we have simulation available with avata 2?
It kinda sounds like you’d be better getting the Mini4Pro first in this case, based on what you’ve said. But also, if you can manage both at some point, they are both extremely fun and useful in different ways. For the slow landscape stuff maybe Mini4Pro first of all?
Yes you can use the DJI simulator.. its very useful and immersive if you want to practice!
Honest review mate.
Cheers bud. I just wanted it to be straight up truth from my own perspective. Might do some more content on it other than footage, maybe!
Will it record 30fps while flying 60fps or 120fps to get the latency down? I fly the o3 and that is its biggest downfall. If you run 30fps to get motion blur the latency is so bad in the goggles its damn near unflyable.
I would say that’s the only downside of a 1 camera system at the moment, because you are shooting in the same frame rate as what you’re viewing. I stick with 50fps usually with the Avata, but for example, this particular video is 25fps due to the camera work. So the 50fps drone footage has been dropped on to the 25fps timeline just for this. Normally I try to avoid that if I can. The camera is much better than O3/Avata 1 which is cool.👌
I’ll probably make some more content on it soon.
Do you think the speed is enough for freestyle? It's sad the UK/EU has a lower speed then the rest of the world
Based on the small amount of flying I’ve done with it so far, I can say it can handle some freestyle, waaay better than the last one. Also I need to fly it with a higher camera angle soon to really push the speed and find out. It feels better weight and more nimble though for sure.
Just got in mail today. Charging up everything now
Good work 🙌 you’ll love it! So good.
Nice
Cheers Mark 🙏🏼
It is a great open filed drone for sure. Lots of fun. Not a good drone for tight gaps like a big toy. Like #178 and subscriber #287
Cheers! 😊 yeah I mean there’s some super tight gaps you might wanna use a tiny cinewhoop for, but yeah I was just out flying it again and it’s great fun. I flew the first one regularly and this is just way better for both the flying and camera in my opinion.
@@LowryDroneography-Steve camera is much better, open fields is better. Tight gaps, not as good. It's too light and gets moved around too much in big toy type situations. My avata OG is much better in tight gaps. The new motion controller 3 is built for a toddler (size wise)and not as meaty as the MC 2
@@LanceCadena Gotta admit, not really gone near the MC but will do to make a video at some point. Only just removed it from the plastic thing today 😅. I’ve pretty much only used Normal/Sport to land and everything else has been manual. Except 1 or 2 flythroughs with v1 required some normal mode in the mix. My comparison at this stage is purely based on the manual experience really, but I wanna try it in Normal indoors soon, because it looks like those extra sensors really help it stabilise when it has no GPS.
Speed and power are really low, seems you are locked to CE 17ms max speed(same as mini 2 camera drone) while outside the EU they run 27m/s. For fpv its not enough... Check for fcc mod to unlocking full potential.
Nope I’m just chill flying at not a crazy high camera angle. Ive also flown it fast and reached around top speed. It seems like the UK has not suffered the limit as of yet. I know about FCC mode etc but the amount of antennas on this and the goggles is proving better performance in CE to me, than a friend’s previous version in FCC.
The motion joystick emphasis from all the sponsored pro FPV pilots definitely made me a bit nervous.
But the fact that you can flip it with the fap controller, is hopefully a good sign for how capable it should be in manual mode with the true FPV controller and a bit of rate tweaks.
I think that’s mostly because they were sent it quite early without the RC3 stock being shipped at the point or something. I’m speculating but I think that’s probably accurate. For the bunch of creators that do fly acro FPV, that is.
Yeah definitely.. in my experience so far, its a much more capable drone than the first version.. and seriously I’ve flown the crap out of that since it was released so I know it well!
@@LowryDroneography-Steve I'm very excited to get this drone. I'm ripping around my property on a Tinyhawk 3 Freestyle. It's great for learning but the video range and quality are terrible. This is gonna be such a huge upgrade.
I've already bought the FPV 3 controller and it's on the way. So in a few weeks when I'm ready to buy the Avata, I'll already have the FPV 3 bound to my account and ready to go!
@@brandon9689 Sounds like the way to go! Then you have everything you need to just start ripping around and getting to know it as soon as its charged 🤟🏼
Круто👍
👍👍
Great video and great flying, it’s that’s rusty, would love to see you with some WD40
Haha! Thank you 🙏 I think cos it’s a new drone I was keeping a bit more distance from the ground etc than normal and sketched a few things.
