It would have been easier to see the coverage of the paint was a different color than the primer or previous coat. I found when using high density foam rollers one of the problems was that a couple minutes after starting, the roller would start to actually suck paint back up or remove some of it while trying to smooth out any visible lines. Hopefully that won't be as obvious when I do the 2nd coat though. But it was supposed to be a single coat paint.
Thanks for the advice. However, painting white paint on a white door with a white roller....in a white room does make it a bit difficult to see the result!
...use them for application and lay off with a brush if you can't roll off properly with the roller...also knowing how to lay with the roller will reduce the "smearing" issue...light even pressure works best...
Using a high density foam roller with a tray a little wider than the roller (where you have room to roll out the paint) gives excellent results. I do this all the time and I am not aware of all the problems shown in this video.
Foam rollers can leave air bubbles in the paint as you say i like using 4" 1/4" nap rollers leaves smooth finish next best thing to having them spray painted.
Hi i tried to use foam roller but leaves kind of orange peel on cabinets, now i am trying the high density roller and it seems better. Just a question: sometimes when i try to paint the side the roller don’t spin, it just slides, why is that?
LEARNINGCHORDS Hi , i have a little problem now, i painted 4 doors so far in grey, the only thing the first two are much darker than the second two! On all of them i did two coats of primer and two of paint.. any idea why?
I am painting the doors, and windows trims with high quality paint using brush and roller but very unhappy with the result. I am going to try this foam roller again. Thanks
the foam roller is a very hard thing to use.. it slides all over and i hate it... USE a very low nap 4 or 6 inch roller. you will love it.. takes forever with the 4" but you will love the results
I have had bad results with Advance. With a foam roller there are tons of air bubbles. It is thick so brushing leaves marks. I have tried velour rollers and the roller leaves small pieces of material in the finish.
Does this have any "orange peel" kind of text at all or is it pretty perfectly smooth? Is it close to a spray-like finish? Can't tell the texture of the finish at all in the video. Camera too far away, and need a better side angle, with light on it to see it properly.
I saw on Home-Depot website the "6" High-density Foam Roller", but your video is 4". Does it matter much? My project is Melamine Kitchen Cabinets (low-price standard cottage cabinets). I wanna leave the doors on and just roller baby, roll. In a few years, purchasing new cabinets anyway.
i don't see any links to the painting products in your description. Seems like you want to provide us with links to the video equipment only? Did I miss something?
I bought these at home depot. I am not sure one could find this on amazon with this exact product... other companies I am sure sell them but I did not add a link
if you are a pro and know how to use one and have the money then good- most people without experience can't use one properly. also you have to MASK up everything and you have to wear a mask... health wise no thanks. I have a dog- i dont need paint beads in the air. if you want a great airless job then unless you do this type work often- hire someone to do it for you... that is like saying if you want a great running car- rebuild your engline... without experience most people should stick with what they are good at
@@LEARNINGCHORDS I completely understand. It's not as pricey or difficult. I bought an Avanti HVLP from Harbor Freight for $49.99 after coupon and a Homeright Spray Shelter off Amazon for $59.99. They make smaller ones but I liked the shelter as I close the flap to contain overspray. Zero mask or plastic in my garage. Works perfectly.
@@ftnirish74 thank you. I have 29 doors and 13 drawers!! If I can set up our "shed" as a spray room with hangers, maybe I won't have to spend a year painting my kitchen 🤣😂🤣
No air bubbles? I can't figure out what utopia you're living in because I didn't have that incredible finish, I had air bubbles and figured that at least there would be a mention of how to avoid this issue.
If using gloss paint, once the coat has been applied, wait a moment and then very gently run over it with the roller (having been sure not to add any more pain), or simply use a dry clean brush to lay off. This person has little idea how to apply it properly. Work in 6-9 inch squares and blend them into each other. Most foam rollers result in the same finish if used correctly.
Pro tip forget the foam roller and use a velour roller from Sherwin Williams or Ben Moore and you are also using the wrong type and grade of paint it’s going to chip very easily, use a hybrid alkyd paint and put a coat of water based polyurethane as a topcoat
Every time someone boasts about foam rollers it's always the same. Never have any light reflecting off the product. Could have used a 10" roller with 3/4 nap and would seem smooth in this video with no light. @ 5:14 look at the bottom left corner with light reflection. Looks terrible. I wouldn't call that smooth.
Puppy That’s what happens when you use gloss acrylic enamels with a foam roller sleeve !! I know from experience etc. What I do is roll it on first & then lay it off with a paint brush ! I hope that helps !! 😨

shure46 i wanted to say the white man joke 😂
😂😂
With white gloves on. My guy would be camouflaged completely invisible in that room
I use foam rollers because they leave no marks and I never have a problem. Ive never ever had a foam roller fall apart during a project.
I think it meant a foam brush.

Old Timer Air bubbles come from over working the roller or pushing too hard.
@@nikups6418 I lightly lay the paint with the foam roller and there are tons of air bubbles in the first roll alone.
@@americarocks1776 you’re doing it wrong.
Nothing beats HPLV spray. It is silky smooth. I apply primer with foam roller only, since it is alcohol based.
How did they all turn out none of them had air bubbles?
Nice Video. Thanks
Using a white color on white interior is good example for Foam Roller review. (Y)

@@matteo76usa You need to mix your paint as you go. Also couldve been thicker as time went on.
Too much or too thick of paint makes rollers slide.
I bought a brand new foam roller and after I painted 1 cabinet door the whole thing fell apart
You paint them with a brush then take a roller like that which is dry and roll over it. Try it. Way better.
that is what i ended up doing

You should you the microfiber roller 4 in the while and blue lines it will give you a nice finish
Use Benjamin Moore Advance paint in satin and use a sponge 3-4” and you’ll have a perfect finish. Absolutely no brush strokes.
i agree but most people can't afford that paint
@@LEARNINGCHORDS Most people can afford it. It's $45 a gallon. That's about standard.

THESE are very hard to use. they slide all over the place. I had no orange peel or texture- but this is not easy to do
The air bubble issue messed my project big time !
mine too. Foam rollers are useless.
Thanks for the review, I'm just painting my cabinets in the bathroom, I went out and bought a foam roller. Curious on how I do with it.
good luck miss A

I was looking to see the roller you were using… why all the links for everything but? 😞
will this work on oil based semi-gloss or will the solvents in the paint melt the roller?

Wrong frame for that roller or wrong roller for that frame
incorrect... just junk... that is the problem

Very helpful, thanks!
I use foam rollers and then lay off the paint with a dry bush for the hand painted look.
Painting a white on a white is kind of hard to tell.... anyway, still an informative vid.

i would love to but online costs a fortune. try to find it in a store at a much cheaper price

You can't see how much paint he is applying to the roller.
Are they ok to use with gloss acrylic paints ?? 😨
