We know we're a little late to this party, but our tech said the reason radio stations had it upside down, is because the announcer is sitting. They are usually reading scripts either a head of them or downward. This keeps the mic out of their vision, plus it helps with sound if you are sitting. Now if you were in a studio standing, sometimes... the mic would be side ways so could always have it faced towards your lips. If the mic was below you, near your chin, it would be more difficult to read your scripts and operate your switchboard, soundboard, players ect... Now, with better technology, facing it up is no different than having it sideways.

I will most definitely to get a Mi!Ka boom-arm from Yellowtec! It much studier than all the other comparable arms and looks modern, sleek and stylish too!

Your Røde was moving front and back uncontrolled in your video. Not good. I have a really excellent K&M 23869, stays unmoved where you put it, solid like a rock, and an Auray BAI-2X which is OK with a heavy EV ER 20.

Blue compass is trash. Does not adjust due to tension. I’ve used the hidden screw didn’t work.

Spoiler alert, nothing can really touch Yellowtec, but you will feel the cost. Other stuff is usable, no doubt, but once you bite the bullet and get a Mika, you'll never want to use a budget brand again

@@yellowtecgermany11 months later, and this still is true. I've tried a bunch of colleagues imitation stands, and nothing is as smooth or as hassle free. Cry once, but smile for the rest of your broadcast career.

@@Blewis-Diarrheo Awesome feedback, thanks a lot. For sure, we are also having an eye on the market and from time to time we see new models appearing here and there. But in our opinion tbh no other competitor's solution gets even close to our quality. Great to hear happy customers like you agreeing! :)

Yes, it's a quality of life thing. My only advice is that if you don't want to spend the money on a Mika setup, then you better not try one. I see people praising all of the budget stuff, and in all fairness it's fine, but they each have their issues. Once you try a Yellowtec, it's game over, everything else seems like a compromise.

Rode is very well built, but the hideous logo ruins it. I cut off the fabric covers and the metal mic arm underneath looks/functions great.

07:30 - these little things - the technical name is Thread adapter. hahaha Hope your well james! Had my mika arm holding my SM7B for the past 18 months now, well worth the money over the cheaper arms!

  • @onthevergechristianrockradio

I use the Gator Frameworks Deluxe mic arm. Cost is around $130 US dollars. For the money, it works great for me!
