Hand Made Conga Drums - Rhythm House Drums

- Time-lapse video from start to finish on a set of 3 Congas. These conga drums are cherry with walnut accents, polished stainless steel hardware, rubber foot, and dark steer hide heads.
I go through the complete build process of a set of congas, from cutting the rough lumber to glue up and turning on the lathe. I even show a small bit of the work that goes into making the conga hardware.
All of the solo drumming is recorded on the congas being built in the video, sorry it's more improv than traditional - the rest of the music is from UA-cam Audio Library.
Feel free to reach out if you want more info or are interested in a custom set of congas. Check out my website for more drums including djembes, bongos, drumkits, snares and more.. All custom built in my small shop!

I never realized how many tasks were needed to hnd make a conga drum. I enjoyed watching the process. I am the owner of two hand made drums by Jay Bereck of Skin on Skin, formerly in Brooklyn. I bought these drums in 2001. They have been a joy to play these last twenty two years. He signed his name in English, and then he also signe his Hebrew name.
beautiful work
I was blessed to order and have ownership of these beauties....the sound is awesome and I can't wait to play them on stage. Kevin Brown of Rhythym House Drums is one of the true craftsmen practicing the drum making craft....especially on the East Coast....I'm blessed.....
Thanks for the kind words and im happy you like the drums. Enjoyed meeting you.
Wow, great-looking conga drums, and they sound excellent! Awesome craftsmanship, God bless!
Thank you - I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
good job bro
Very impressive and precise work and craftsmanship. Most congas are built using the cooperage technique with steam-bent wood staves or sections. Now there are craftsmen cutting the curve into each stave to avoid having to steam-bend which probably makes the drum stronger. Your approach is something totally new to constructing congas. What made you decide on this technique? Thank you for posting!
Really cool looking drums. I'm a professional furniture maker and semi pro percussionist.....always wanted to make some congas.
Love the unique design and approach, great use of small pieces of timber. Inspired me!!
I would love to be the proud owner of a set of these drums. They look amazing amazing.
However after seeing the quality of the craftsmanship that goes into making them, I'm sure they are beyond my means.
I just took it for granted that everything was made in a huge factory.
Very cool and unique
Thanks Michael!
Very nice congas! Congrats!
New sub here! Quite a different approach to building congas and they sound sweet! After visiting your site, I gotta say these are some bad azz mamma jamma's!!!!
so impressive! just congrats on your crafting
Nice natural shape of the wood, not steam bent. And, Check out Moperc drums, less pieces less glue.
Que bellezas! Magnífico trabajo amigo.
Thank you
Boa tarde! Gostei muito do jeito que foi construído o instrumento,eu achei mais bonito e funcional, embora seja muito trabalhosos, mais ficou muito bom.
