Great video, just wondering if you can recommend me what baitrunner to use. I am looking for a bigger one as a want it to hold at least 200 metres of 15kg mono for breakwall fishing
We have a great video that shows that takes you through that rig and how to hook a live bait for a big Jew on my channel. Released just before this one came out. ;)
Wear about a m8 I'm a local at Ballina but can't quite figure out wear u are anyway love your work good to see the tourists don't only come here for the big prawn
+Linden Thorpe Cheers mate. We fished the Richmond River that weekend. Being a local of Ballina yourself, best to approach the locals on potential Jewfish areas. Apparently there are a few. Good luck Linden ;)
+Jim Ferdy Hi Jim, I was using 30lb mono all the way through. 60lb leader (approx a metre and a half). Daiwa Sealine Bull 6000H Threadline and a (med/heavy Action) Daiwa Surf Sensor rod (13'6) ;)
How deed you get bait of the bridge when you cant fish of the bridge i was on the same bridge last time i was in Ballina and are signs you are not allowed to fish on bridge
The name jewfish refers to the large ear stones, which are located in the head and are prized as "jewels" by some fishers. Some fishos may refer to this fish as a 'Jewel fish' still, but is more commonly referred to as the Jewfish, Jewy, butterfish or Mulloway in Australia.
You will one day. Put in those hours. It will happen. They can be a tricky fish but nothing beats local knowledge and hours on the water chasing these beaut fish. Goodluck Matty.
That recreational licensing thing a bit rich in NSW for me, I was castnetting bait one day at NSW side of tweed few years back and a bloke wanders up, and asks " you're a Queenslander aren't you?" So I asked what gave him the clue? "easy mate, that net in here will cost you a fine from $200 to $22,000 ,, everybody here knows that even having fishing gear without a license gets you a fine or fishing without being able to produce your license on demand by fisherie inspectors, cops or even parks rangers " took me about 2.5 seconds to pack up and head across the river, caught some nice mullet live bait and 2 nice jewies got busted up by something huge on 22kg gear that night in Maroon water, never going into blue water again.

Great fish, did you get your Jew on the yakkas or mullet?
+Nick Cuskelly G'day Nick. We caught them both on Yakkas.
lol cars , I know the feeling
Can you keep them down there? We go to jail for them up here in Florida
Yes you can keep Jewfish (Mulloway) in Australia. These fish are regulated by size/catch limits Glenn.
I’ve lost massive fish there plenty of times. Best I landed was 113cm Mulloway on a live mullet.
Bad luck mate. So close!
Nice mate. What was your rig?
There is another tutorial vid on my channel which explains the rig you use to catch these fish. Check it out ;)
hey dude you should include your rig and hook sizes and how you hook the yakka's in your vid next time other than that sick vid
We have a great video that shows that takes you through that rig and how to hook a live bait for a big Jew on my channel. Released just before this one came out. ;)

Why are they called "Jewfish"?

Thank you. I guess I will have to see one in person to know the significance of the "stones".
