- It's finally here! Jump into Midjourney V5 with me and check out the new aspect ratios, some of the parameters you can choose and how V4 Prompts stack up against V5.

I’m so glad the upscale doesn’t change the image anymore, out of all the changes that’s what made my day 😂
haha yeah that is certainly a pleasant surprise!
That's because there's no upscaler in this alpha testing version. It just sends you the 1 image

The main thing for V5, not mentioned here, is that we will get better results from writing full and descriptive sentences, explaining exactly what we want and how we want it to look. 👍
I believe that's what he meant by not keeping them as succint ref: 'Simple prompts are not going to cut it' 0:46

Thank you for the 'no mockups' tip! Hadn't come across that. And to think this is v5 in its infancy.
Skin textures in v5 are _insanely_ improved! Anyone going for photorealism - you're going to be very, very pleasantly surprised. But, you'll have to be creative with the prompts and maybe enter cameras, type of lighting and other photography jargon.

Yeah it's weird not having to wait for an upscale haha but I saw someone say regular generations cost more now? Because the 4 images are already 'upscaled' ... it's a different workflow for sure

Thanks for the mention, i've had to rethink the prompt I've been using on Version 5, on V4 it was amazing, However i find that the V5 generations are more Random... Will be Experimenting with the Prompts over time, however, i'm sure once i get it perfected, it'll be changed with V6 LOL
The aspect Ratio does work out for bookmarks, as I've generated some Amazing ones to sublimate onto bookmarks to sell in my partners shop.
LOL about V6... makes me question whether any video I make will be relevant for more than a few weeks 😅
I’m so glad tiling is back but I feel the outcome has gone back to V3.
hahah really? I saw someone say that higher aspect ratios might work well with tiling but I haven't fully tested it out myself
ive taken an image that i knew was good, then stopped it at a point (maybe30ish) then combined it with the same image but fully rendered. think outside the box and you get same things people haven't thought of.
dang, that is outside the box. I'll write that down and try it myself! Did you use the /blend mode to combine them or just regular image prompts?

Thanks for this great video. Please tell me if V5 improves image prompts so that the MJ-created image has artistic flair but looks more like the image or photo that was used as the image prompt. Thanks.

Thank you for sharing this video. I have noticed on strange thing about V5. For some reason the notion of yinyang (or its spelling variations) has been deprogrammed from Midjourney v5. I think the following prompt will illustrate my point: yinyang made of dense red and white roses on lace
v4 does it beautifully, but v5 just has a strange interpretation of what a yinyang should look like. :)
Other than what I mentioned, I am loving the creativity and quality of v5.
It's strange to see how certain prompts are 'broken' in V5 eh? And that's a shame cause yinyangs are a beautiful compostion

Which aspect ratios have you tried the most?

I've played around with my basic 5 (fifths) denominator aspect ratios such as 5:6, 5:10, and 7:5 as examples. I've not tried extremes like 20:5 or anything like that because I find no need. Besides, the results at the extreme ratios is quite inferior to more standardized ratios.
If you look at some of the art of Johan Grenier from the game Warhammer, he has some great epic battles between the armies of light and dark. Those sort of scenes might be a great use for the really wide aspect ratios.

When I want to use v5 in the free version, why do I get an error saying it is not used?
From what I understand, Version 5 is not available in the free trial. (Version 5 is just in Alpha right now ... it will be there for everyone when it becomes the default)
There is an option in v5 for quality 2 (also costs double). Does this have an impact on the image resolution and can it be done retrospectively?

I personally can't tell the difference between the default and Quality 2 ... and like you said, it costs double ... so it has never seemed worth it to me. However, there are lots of people who use it. I guess it's somewhat of a personal preference at this point
@@FutureTechPilot alright thank you for the feedback. Do you know if there is a quality difference when opening pictures in the web and download them there compared to your personal Midjourney dashboard?
@@metrixc No I'm 99.9% sure there is no difference. (Sometimes visually there may be some compression) but the file you donwload is the same from all sources
What about broken fingers and hands and kegs did they find a solution for that ?
As far as I can tell, it's better, but not perfect. You know what I mean?
I keep getting “invalid float value” when I try chaos or stylize. Any ideas?
I haven't heard of that. I just tried it myself and it worked fine .. maybe ask for help in the member support channel? And double check whether you wrote the parameter correctly ... --stylize or --s 0-1000 and --chaos or --c 0-100

I get an error in v5 that will not allow me to use a chaos setting.
I'm not sure why! I'd just say make sure you write --chaos or --c and then a space, followed by a number between 0 and 100
We can use image weight again :) --iw 1. It goes from 0.5 to 2

I'm a noob with MJ thanks so much for this. Quick question if I may. Why you write the aspect ratio twice in prompts?
haha that is a GREAT question. And there is a simple (but kinda advanced) answer.
So let's say you wanted to experiment with a certain aspect ratio, but you didn't want to type it into your prompt every time. You can hit /prefer_suffix and then anything you type as a value will be added to the ends of your prompts. So you can include --ar 16:9 as a suffix and now you don't have to type it.
HOWEVER, you're not locked into that aspect ratio. If you include a different aspect ratio in your prompt, like --ar 2:3, it will show up before the suffix and override it.
So you might see one of my prompts like 'neon batman --ar 4:5 --ar 16:9 --v 5' and that just means I wanted to try 4:5 this time. But you also might see 'neon batman --ar 16:9 --ar 16:9 --v 5' and that just means sometimes I forget I have the suffix set and I include the aspect ratio in my prompt. It can also happen when I am copy and pasting the prompt to tweak little things.

Does anybody know how to remove style 4b? I can't use V5 because of it
Hmm? You can hit /prefer_suffix and it will clear anything that automatically shows up at the end of your prompt. You can also probably change it in /settings

What about creating consistent characters in version 5?
Haven't tried it but I'll give it a shot now. My initial guess is that it won't be possible lol the old tricks will probably work but they'll have to build like a 'consistency' feature one day where you can identify something and have MJ create more of it

for sticker art or vector style tshirt designs v5 has been a struggle. I have seen some go back to v4 for those.
Yah? Version 4 was pretty amazing and I guess it will take time to figure out how to get the most out of V5

The variations are subtle but definitely variations..........which is exactly how I like it most of the time........ *subtle variation.*
If you can't control the seeds (consistency) it's useless to me. I will stick with four until they fix this glaring problem.
I personally don't think seeds ever provided consistency between different prompts, but you definitely could use them effectively when multi-prompting in the past

wait so there have actually been people using midjourney *without* using stylize & chaos this whole time....?? how? those are the two most imperative tools you can possibly use in the entire app.... 🤯
also, THANK GOD the upscale now is going to just give you the pic in a bigger resolution....i've had so many amazing prompts practically go to waste as a result of shitty upscale results (and then afterwards having like *dozens* of different shitty copies of it also, from trying every different upscale & combination of upscales and stuff in an attempt to get something that looked like the design from the original grid result.... 😌
Yeah I think most people focus on subjects and scenes, rather than tweaking the algorithm with parameters. I mean, I don't have any data to back that up, it's just a feeling I get. And you're right about something like promptomania, gonna be super helpful for people trying to learn the depth of V5!
stylize 500 is the default
Is it? I'm not saying you're wrong but where did you hear that? It's been 100 for previous versions and I wasn't aware it changed

In my opinion, with each update from early release of v4 (from v4 to v4b to current v4) sharpness and quality of images are degraded. Early v4 was the best for artistic style and quality of images. V5 is good in realistic photos but most of the people use MJ because of its artistic style. If I have to choose I will choose earliest model of v4 which is unfortunately we can't use now (--v4a doesn't give same quality as earliest v4 model)
I really do agree, I loved the first V4 but I'm confident that the bot will become more stylistic very soon
I don't want photorealism either---at all. I am sticking to four until five improves in that regard. Also, the lack of seed control is devastating for me.
