The first pair "Arakis" has been discontinued. Looking on the Icon site it looks like it's been rebranded as "Contra2". Sold on Fort9 for about the same price.
I second this
Can't seem to find any of these on the website. Time for an update? 🤞
"This product has been discontinued" on every items in this video...
Perhaps it's time for an update...
I've been watching your older videos and I'm impressed at the quality right out of the gate. I appreciate Ryan's laid back attitude. I do enjoy Revzilla but I find them to be more "in your face" and I don't always need that energy.
I do wonder though, is Ryan the only one who works at F9?
Thanks! I'm definitely not the only one working here! FortNine is an online store for motorcycle gear, so most of TeamF9 works on the retail side of things. For UA-cam, it's usually just myself and my videographer buddy working on these videos. ~RyanF9
dippitydoinit congrats on 100k! you guys are growing really fast!
Thanks for your excellent review as usual. I bought Olympia Airglide 3 on sale for $130 US shipped. Hip and knee armor but no tailbone armor.
I haven't yet worn them on a long enough ride to comment however.
Stay with it. You are amongst the best reviewers on the interweb.
A little late but... Alpinestars Sonoran Air Drystar pants from FortNine last year, in grey/black. Like them a lot. 6'2", 34". Mesh with water/wind liner and D30 knees. Supplemented the hip armour with the pads from my replaced Rhino pants. Fit great, comfy, fit over big Corozal boots and look good without feeling like a snowsuit. Cool in summer, add liner, and long-undies with the seasons. I rode 4C in them, no probs.
I've been loving my tourmaster venture air pants, they have a rain liner and a quilted warmth liner. They are a perfect year round pant for Texas since it never really gets super cold. I don't look cool wearing em, but i'm not trying to so who cares. Safety>Fashion. Plus the venture air 2.0's came out, so the original models are on sale if you can still find them in stock somewhere in your size.
I own the First Gear Overpant and love them. I just added a pair of heavy duty button suspenders. good to go.
I'm sporting the Sedechi Alexi mesh pants.
Pros:
Price
Ventilation
Thermal and rain layer
Fits is pretty spot on
Cons:
Weight
Extra layers you have to lug around if not worn.
Like normal textile gear, mesh protects pretty well in a slide (it's tough cord material), but while loose/relaxed fit is best for airflow, in the event of an 'off' it also allows knee/hip armour to move around. I've seen people have accidents where they're unhurt except for the damage caused by the armour pads cutting into them during an accident (not too bad but bad enough for a sane person to want to avoid it).
You know what? I've got a new fan mate! Love your vids. Love from Cambodia.
What I find so interesting is that some of the things you review didn't even exist when I was riding a few years ago. Motorcycle pants??? Motorcycle shoes??? And the advancement in helmets and other items that did exist is just unreal. The Skully helmet is a perfect example. I'm watching your channel, not only for the reviews, but to see what's out there. What? I can buy a pair of shoes that are protective and I can wear them at the office, What??? It's a great time to be riding!!! BTW, another great video Ryan.
Got a few buddies that ride Harley's but one reason I got myself the Vee, besides the off road capabilities, was that I couldn't see myself riding around like a pirate. Lucked into a pair of riding pants from BMW, w an MSRP of over $700, they were on sale for $120. Now that's a steal Arrrrhhh matey....
Gyarrr. Hell of a good deal. Beemer makes nice stuff. ~RyanF9
Gonna go to Arrrrrrby's for lunch in them?
This was very timely ... I have been trying to decide whether to buy the Arakis pants. Now I can push the button!
do it do it do it do it. ~RyanF9
I have the ICON Raiden Arakis in camo and they're my favorite warm weather pant, especially for Baja. VERY good quality and shows ICON Raiden getting better with each iteration. On par with the Klim Mojave pant ;)
One important thing for me in a motorcycle trouser is having options on leg length. I'm 5'10" but still find most regular lengths too long and the knee armour sits below my knee.
I feel you bro! So annoying...
I hear ya. There are only a few companies (e.g. Firstgear) that offer short sizing. And even fewer that offer inseam lengths by the inch. ~RyanF9
FortNine Rukka & Rev'It offer s,m,l, leg sizes
Knee armor is supposed to sit below the knee when standing. That way when sitting on your bike the armor is on the knee. If the armor is below the knee when sitting on the bike then that's different.
TheKaligreen Yeah below the knee in both scenarios
This guy is the best
Those hand movements, so quick and nimble.
I'm very happy with my Joe Rocket Alter Ego 13. The zip-off panel provides great ventilation. That said, the only armour is at the knees. But i ride a Cali 1400, so tail bone and hips armour aren't as critical as people with way more aggressive rides.
I'm surprised the A Stars didn't make it to the list - awesome reviews as always
Me too! I tested a couple A* pants for this video, but they were all outperformed by at least one of the other options. ~RyanF9
+FortNine wow!! I'm shocked and I know your reviews are thorough
Love your videos ! such a pitty so few subscribers !
Give it time, bro.
360,000 subscribers. As there are only 720,000 registered motorcycles in all of Canada, I'd say he's doing OK.
I like the Early Joe Rocket - more armor and pads than later rocket stuff
What do you think about the new Alpinstars Ramjet pants for abrasion, and our Montreal heatwaves?
A bit surprised that you failed to mention that the Olympia Dakar Dual Sport pants have no waist adjustments like most other motorcycle pants do. You will need to wear a belt with them. They are great pants, but that needs to be kept in mind when making a purchase.
I found myself watching quite a few of your videos. I did subscribe. Admittedly, I questioned your baby face look but I suppose that's part of the charm. Your production quality is good and you're quite thorough. To reiterate the youngness, puts off a lack of experience but you seem to age well and probably older than you look. 22-23? Wish you luck.
MrHasie I.
🤣
I have crashed at 45/50 on the Dainese pants and I didnt have a mark on any part of my legs that those covered. Did get this little tear on the mesh on my thigh but it doesnt go through. Its more like 1 little band of the mesh tore and thats it.
Great video! I realize that this is an older video. Have your preferences changed? Also, what mesh pants do you recommend that you would wear them without jeans underneath so that you can be cool during the summer. And some winter pants to keep you warm? Thanks
Middle aged guy on vacation??? That's me!!! Hilarious. Nice job Ryan. BTW, I love those pants..........
Lee Douglas I think most people watching these videos are middle aged guys? That's why we buy Adventure bikes, to ride away from the family.
I used to be one of those. Now I'm an old guy who rides a lot mostly when my wife lets me out. Ride a small dual sport or adventure bike at home where summer is long and temps are usually 95 to 100. I went to the US for 4 months and the virus kept me there for 11 months. Don't think I'll be allowed out for a long time. Not a problem as there is endless riding in Argentina. I would like some pants for extreme heat though
Pants are probably the most underrated piece of protection in the motorcycle world...that and boots...for some also the jacket....oh and for others they also don't consider gloves xD
Love my Olympia gear.
nice reviews as always, would you do a riding jeans review? that would be great to see.
Thanks! Funny you should ask - I just finished shooting a riding jeans review. We weren't going to edit and upload it for a while, but I'll push the publishing date forward for ya. Should be up soon. ~RyanF9
Hey Ryan I appreciate your response and hard work! Can't wait to see it as I'm looking to buy more riding jeans! Stay safe on the streets.
edgaruriarte have u looked into Duluth fire hose & flex fire hose jeans in both 5 pocket & work Jean. the work Jean has cargo style pockets on both legs.come in a variety of colors & cost $69. personally I wear the fire hose flex 5 pocket jeans for work, play & riding. they are the most comfortable pants I've ever worn. find @ www.duluth trading. com.
Hey Ryan I'm gonna need you to do an updated video on pants because I'm in the market and don't know how to make decisions for myself. Not sure if I want jeans, mesh, overpants, maybe some kind of spray that I could hose my pasty white meat-sticks down with to give some abrasion resistance for ultimate breathability? Need your help.
Another awesome video. Do you sharing your inseam length? I have been considering the first-gear pant but I have super long legs. If they run long in the tall sizes it might just work...depending on how much longer they run.
Thanks! I have a 34" inseam, and that Firstgear (34-Tall) was at least 2 inches longer than it needed to be. ~RyanF9
awesome. Thank you sir!
+Fortnine I really like the look and features of the Olympia Dakar pants but I'm worried they may be too breezy for those cooler summer nights/fall days in New England. What's your opinion?
Is it just me or do all they pants look terrible? Like, star trek fisherman terrible.
Good point. But I'm an old guy on a cruiser ('14 Guzzi 1400 Touring) who's about the comfort, with an upright ride. And I'm wearing Joe Rocket Alter Ego 13 (and I keep a Popiel Pocket Fisherman in one of my side bags)
No snark - no call out - honest response: what is your ride and what are you wearing? or what would you suggest?
mr7wi Sadly, I have nothing to suggest. Will not be buying mesh pants, I suppose.
rezneba101 Not at all. Clearly this does not fit with your pursuit. We all enjoy the sport. Take chances. Keep riding. Stay safe. :)
rezneba101 Much respect
@@rezneba101 I bought Astars Sonoran pants, in grey/black and I like them very much. Mesh with a liner and D30 knees. I supplemented the hip armour with the pads from my replaced Rhino pants. Fit great, super comfy and look good. Cool in summer, add liner, and then wear your long undies in the Fall. I rode 2C in them, no probs.
Ryan how about a repeat of this AND leather trousers that are made for touring , not the racetrack? please thanks
Could you do a video on best commuter/waterproof/all weather textile riding pants please? Thank you in advance! 👌🏽
Hello Ryan, I'm from Brazil and I've been watched your videos. Congrats for the videos and reviews, they're great! My brother lives in Montreal and slowly I am buying my gears. My propouse is Touring. I already have the boot and the jacket icon dkr. On the glove I saw you recommended Icon Patrol gloves, as here the temperatures range here is 0-40 celsius do you think I will be able to use here? And on the pants, it is difficult to find, I would like to keep the DKR set but it does not have very good ratings. It is great value for the quality and safety it offers. What do you think of the DKR pants? What could you recommend for pants that are WP and have good safety at an affordable price? Thank you Ryan!
another great review, I'm going to order the olypia dakar pants
Been waiting for a motorcycle pant review from you, thanks
You rock ! Thanks for this ! You are my size too which helps 😃
i have the AGV Sport solar vented pants and there petty good to
I love your videos great reviews keep it up!
Wish you would do a review on the Icon Raiden UX Waterproof Pants, Item # 483406. Love the idea and the concept. I wonder if I should have sized down from Large to Medium, I understand that they are an over pant, but what exactly am I putting them over? I have 36" waist, 5'9" 190lbs but feel like I need the large to be synch more than half way.
Good reviews but pants not available in the UK. Some on ebay tho.
please do a motorcycle lock review sir, i really liked your reviews
hey FortNine, have you ever heard of Richa? It seems like a good brand, but is it? Thx anyways, they really help me a lot
Heard of 'em, but never tried. Pretty rare this side of the pond. ~RyanF9
This guy is really good 🎉
I’m am literally a middle aged father on family vacation while watching this. So that sorta screams motorcycle UA-cam creeper on vacation at F9.
What can i expect of the Icon arakis as far as thigh abrasion protection? It seems like its only mesh which doesn't sound very good... they are on clearance now so I bought a pair of camo for $89 and the black for $168 and I'm thinking of adding in a pair of d3o hip protectors but if it's all going to fall apart what's the point?
Excellent review. Very helpful.
Do these protect well in a crash on asphalt...or do they shred?
Ryan have you done a review on all weather touring pants
what about the Klim Voyage Air? Ok you mentioned it briefly as $$$ but that's Klim...what about it as a mesh pant? where does it stack up?
I'd like to know as well!
You'd be a bomb a$$ weatherman LOL
Just wonder how the Klim Voyager Air, and Scorpion Drafter II pants measure up to these.
I have a klr so access to adjusting the boys is important
Whats your thoughts on all in one leather suits? Mines made by shoei.
Dainese Super Drakes can feel a bit slippery on the seat compared to leathers.
How do you find the sizing? do they run small / large? No snark. Honest question
Dainese fit me better than alpinestars, thats what I can say
Can you do leather pants next (e.g., Icon Hypersport, AGV Willow, Fieldsheer Rider, etc.)?
For street bike riding do most people wear pants like these or they just wear jeans
how about a Best Textile Pants video for non-mesh pants?
Why are so many mesh pants black? In the heat I would rather have light colors.
My only complaint about your videos is that you need to normalize your audio; based on your distance from the mic your volume is going way up and down. Very easy to fix!
Great review!
Thanks !
I busted a fat one... thanks for this review
What boots are you wearing?
nice channel :)
Good question! I don't quite remember, but after pausing the video in a few spots I'm pretty sure it was these (fortnine.ca/en/alpinestars-new-land-gtx-boots). Cheers! ~RyanF9
Great Information!!!
Motoport mesh kevlar!
Is he the owner/founder of Canada's Motorcycle?
How is the Air Frazer pant not your sport option?
I think it’s time for an update to this video
Im sad revzilla doesn't have the pants in white anymore
Nicd review.
but u need to do some squats and leg presses.
Should update this
It'd be nice if you had 60fps options.
I wish someone made a zip to waist mesh bib.
You should become a weather forecaster
Please make 'Best Motorcycle Cevlar Jeans'
Done. We're planning to publish that video in two weeks. Sorry for the wait. ~RyanF9
FortNine Eyy, nice
Hello! I'm Nor RyanF9!
Can you post a link? You speak a little fast so I have to replay to get the brands then spelling becomes the next problem. Thanks
update video on this? Unfortunately the first gear isn't available anymore
Rush Air now.
I know this is an old video but for safety sakes people don't keep your keys on your body while riding. They will puncture a lot more than your pants or jacket in the event of a crash! They don't take up much space so find a storage place on your bike.
Whats new in the pant game Ry guy
A.R.C. Battleborn by Rocky Mountain
Which boots are those 0:30
Did he suggest you could ride in shorts....
Daddy likes playing footsie with his muffler...
Hey what happened to these style video.
Updated video please
Can i host thus channel too
why would you want to wear jeans underneath?
I guess for people like me who commute on their bikes, I don't want to be changing pants every time to I get to a destination...
Not having hip pads on moto pants is a deal breaker. I def don't want a hip replacement surgery done on me.
It's terrible that almost every piece of motorcycle gear seems to be black or muted. Especially summer/mesh.
Loose and baggy is a huge No No on a motorbike. It’s silly. Little to no real protection as knee armour will end up anywhere but your knees in an accident. You really haven’t sold it well because it’s the last thing most experienced bikers would use. Motorcycle trousers are the hardest thing to buy. They’re all a compromise between breathability, protection, waterproofing etc. some of the single skin aramid reinforced jeans come close. Sizing is nuts. All manufacturers seem to use their own unique tape measures😂
The Arakis sounds like cheap rubbish to me.
Why does he keep says pant? Isn't it pants for just one pair of pants too?
oliver saverino technically "pant" is the proper word. Just most Americans use the word "pants" now a days . Pant was common even in America back in the day though.
Can you so a Video about Woman gear? Pls
We're planning on it! Pretty tricky to test the gear, as a lot of women's stuff doesn't come in large enough sizes to fit me. But we're also considering getting a female host for ladies' gear videos. Either way, we should have something for you in the future. ~RyanF9
+FortNine that would be great! I'm excited :D
great work, love it!! I appreciate the effort you put in your videos.
it's a pleasure!
Does anyone sell, an intended to be unseen, tight fitting, Kevlar 'yoga-pant' legging type liner that I can fit under all of my favorite jeans and forego the bulk. (I'm a girl and our choices are ugly and significantly less attractive than the plethora of options for men) 'mesh Long johns' may seem like an odd concept, but I want some. May not be as great as hard knee pads but a little extra thickness protection on hip and knees beats the hell out of regular denim.
;) oh hey
