"We had a very good meeting. I consider UK as one of our biggest and most important allies and Keir as a close friend and colleague to me and to Denmark. We have agreed tonight that we will work closely together on the Arctic region and the need for ensuring the security environment in what we call the high North, including Greenland and the Arctic region in general. So it was a very good meeting. And not only looking at the Arctic region, we have agreed to work closer together on defence and deterrence and on the different security issues that are surrounding us in these years."

STORYLINE:
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen met her UK counterpart Keir Starmer on Tuesday to discuss security issues, including the situation regarding Greenland.
Starmer welcomed Frederiksen to 10 Downing Street in London.
"We have agreed tonight that we will work closely together on the Arctic region and the need for ensuring the security environment in what we call the high North, including Greenland and the Arctic region in general," Frederiksen said after the meeting.
Before taking office for his second term on January 20, the U.S. President Donald Trump said he would not rule out the use of military force to seize control of the Panama Canal and Greenland, as he declared U.S. control of both to be vital to American national security.
The U.S. president reiterated his ambitions on the issue in comments to reporters last week.
Frederiksen also expressed her condolences to the victims of a mass shooting at an adult education centre in Sweden on Tuesday.

It is important that Nordics, EU and UK stands unitied.
Danmarks sak är vår!
Northern Kingdoms unite.
Vi vill ha vår silver tillbaka!
Hvad der skete med "Danskjavla"? ;)
Tak, lillebror.
There are only a few trustworthy and democratic politicians left in the world today, like Starmer and Frederiksen. My country Slovakia went to shit under Fico, Czech Republic will soon be under populist Babiš, then there is Orban in Hungary, Meloni in Italy, France is fractured and Le Pen has a shot at presidency, AfD has strong numbers in Germany and Mertz from CDU is not afraid to vote with them, and in USA they have Elon-Trump co-dictatorship.
Apart from the fact that our Danish Prime Minister is smart and intelligent, she is also a beautiful woman and not afraid to dress accordingly ❤! One thing is her job..., another is his personality !
His? Is she full on European or what?😂
As a Chinese never know these two person,i can tell the woman is a Danish and the man is a British by the first glance
The best 2025 joke
now EU talking about security
UK is the grandma of US.
UK's government with labour is ridiculous
Thanks for your input GRU agent from Savushkina Street, Olgino, Saint Petersburg.
That’s why I don’t like Trump!
Give Greenland its independence
Once they vote for it, sure. They have the right to call elections whenever they wish. They have self rule and total autonomy.
Independence however would mean the total cut of Danish tax funding to the country, meaning the country would be at a net negative, go into debt, and have to find means to sustain itself elsewhere.
Effectively, you are calling for Greenland to be taken over by Russia, China, or the United States, with less autonomy.
May the Lord God continue to protect you and guide you in the holy spirit
Denmark should give Greenland independence and stop block subsidies from day 1. Denmark only has expenses from being in a commonwealth with Greenland. Block grants, payment of military police, etc. amount to at least 10 billion Danish kroner annually. 10 Billion which could be spent much better on the home front. Finally, let the US take over Greenland and let's move on.
Correction to first post.
Stfu. It's not for sale. Days of colonialism are long gone.
"Giving Greenland independence and being taken over by the USA". How does that work? An invasion perhaps?
the only claim the US has to greenland is De Jure Law (not UN recognised), and why can't the US just SEND troops as NATO allows such a move
Nope, Denmark should milk Greenland for all its worth. If you cant fund it, let EU collectively fund and profit. Greenland will have enormous value
USA will never get Greenland, as they do not want to be part of that idiotic country.
Say goodbye to Greenland then 😂😂😂
You think the U.S will take it now?
@mattclayer6541 they will have it the way they need it
I hope so. As a Dane I don’t want Greenland to be a part of us. We give them 5 billion kroner every year, and we give them free healthcare, free education, we deliever them all the food and grosseries they have and etc. And they still trash talk us Danes. I really hope USA will take that huge bill away from us. The could spend those money much better in Denmark.
I feel like this was the wrong ally and move, Denmark just drew lines. But we'll see...but UK really?!
What choice they have?
I mean they have the 2nd most powerful navy in NATO so.
@@ashwinstewart will they go against USA really the question is. I don't see it being any sort of military operation though. Only political and economic games
@@ashwinstewart UK going against USA would be ill advised, their interests are too intertwined, plus the US would demolish them
@@felixmuhia7063 The UK is more dependent on Europe, than the US. They are their neighbors after all. Plus the UK, Denmark and all of Europe have a vested interest in keeping Greenland in their sphere of influence.
The US would probably win any fight with Europe, but it would destroy their economy forever.
US should pack up every piece of equipment, soldier and sack of money and leave Europe. Drop out of NATO and focus on us. It is like we can do for everyone but when we want something they all join together and say no 😄Id say good luck folks.
LOL. Then leave, see how you fare not benefitting from European brain drain and soldiers supporting YOUR wars. Article V was invoked once, by US, and Europe answered. We lost more soldiers per capita, for YOUR interests, not ours. Bro really thinks we should just give away a continent sized strategic land. Yall sniffing glue across the pond
Money? If you mean your DEI funds, thank god. We have a trade deficit with the US anyway, literally your loss. Europe will increase trade with China, good job master strategist, making your biggest rival stronger because of vanity and frankly low IQ.
Us is everywhere because it has interests for themselves everywhere
@@ararune3734 Look, I hate to play devil's advocate here, but you realize that the EU increasing trade with China would indirectly help Russia since China is their biggest bankroller? Is that what the EU wants?
@@KazakhStarOG American education at full display. He really thinks American troops are there for others' protection.
The only time Article V was invoked, it was invoked by Americans, and Europe answered. They got everything out of NATO, Europe got nothing.
US made Ukraine disarm itself and made security guarantees, now they destroyed not just an entire country, but also the continent and global economy but still they somehow think they're the ones getting the short end of the stick.
Egocentrism knows no limits across the pond.
Denmark just made the wrong move
Perhaps you are capable of explaining how Denmark has made "the wrong move"? Or was it just a cheap oneliner?
@@fkffytjfhydkgdbjColonizers. Make Greenland independent. EU is just a hypocrite. 😂
@@fkffytjfhydkgdbjim curious about that too, it seems a rather idiotic take
@@fkffytjfhydkgdbjbecause Greenland is a Property of The United States
@@fkffytjfhydkgdbjhow uk can be trusted? Ukraine trusted them and in 1-2 years there will be no Ukraine
Question to the Danish & British people, are you ready to fight for Greenland?
Yes.
Question for Americans, are you ready to destroy your economy forever? Because that is what will happen if you take on Europe. You'll probably win, but it will be at the cost of your entire economy, you will no longer be the world's superpower, and at that point, Russia and China might just as well take it.
Dane here. I am ready to fight for the self determination of all people everywhere in Europe. And I do believe we have failed Ukraine. We should be fighting for their sovereinty too.
@ Dutch European here and I can say the EU leaders are far worse than Russia for us & we will support the US more then woke ideology leaders.
Yes, Trump will never get his way here
Oh hell yeah, don’t touch my kingdom
I find it so funny, there are so many big issues already and they want to focus on that. We should just stop all help in Ukraine then, let them sort it out.
