A point where you might consider skipping line weighting: Animation. It's very *very* difficult to avoid getting that sort of "Jittery outline" in animation if you use weighted lines, and the value you get from various line weights is diminished when the audience isn't looking at a still image anyway.

my problem with lineweight, especially when it comes to digital art, which i started to do this year, is that it's coming from pressure, and i can't really control my pressure. i'm used to draw with pencil, and i always push it hard, unconsciously, because i'm focusing on the lines i'm drawing. and digital drawing is entirely different from pencil-to-paper art (at least with screenless tablet, i don't have one with a screen), and when i turn pressure sensitivity on, it always makes too thick lines because i can only push hard. if i try to consciously control my pressure... i just don't know how to do it.

I'm not sure what your tablet/pen setup is but most have software that allow you to change the sensitivity, you could turn it way down so that pushing hard makes a regular line.

I’ve picked up drawing and painting recently, and your guides are really interesting and helpful.
I’m still getting used to the digital pen, so I’m not sure I’m ready to try weighting the lines yet, but I’ll think about this video when I try.

How do you paint tapered or broken lines, like the soft fur? I REALLY been wanting to understand that digital process.
Thanks for these links to lineart videos, I have never really gotten pass the sketch phase because I am so bad at it, but the idea of how to break it down, really helps. I never thought of just turning off the sketches or having multiple sketches before starting lineart. I just get overwhelmed with all of my ideas, but they come off really bad traditionally due to the clutter and conflicting ideas.
I know a lot of art theory, but scared to practice it. I just need to do it.

Did you ever paint over this? If so I'd LOVE to see it!! This is so intricate, so yes it's how. you expected it to turn out, imo, and I just love the combo ref from the horse hair from the back on the main, to the snake skin and body!!! So lovely how it was built up that way, beauitufllll!! I lour videos so much. I've been finding your channel very helpful. I found and started binge watching last week/this previous week. As someone who learns visually, but also likes an organized overview, I love the extra effort of adding in handwritten notes & explanations with them, in each video. It's very helpful to understand, I have moderate ADD/ADHD, it isn't bad most of the time, but when. I'm learning, I'm all over the place, & are always wanting to take/write down long notes, even if it's something I"ve heard multiple times!!! It's also helpful that I don't have to manually go in and take notes. I can just add small extra ones here & there if I need a bigger explanation, or need timestamps written down!!! Thank you for your content, and your artwork is wonderful, keep up the great work!!!!!

I have arthritis (it started in my early 20's, and now I'm in my early 40's), so I physically can't change my stylus pressure for line weighting, and I can't find a brush type that doesn't start out too small & pointed and then ends up thicker & thicker & enormous at the end of it. (I use ProCreate) I don't know what to do. 🥺

@@gray_ggk Tracing can actually be a really useful tool for learning basic shapes of something new. As long as it isn't somebody elses art that you try to play off as your own, tracing is pretty important. Helps you learn faster! :p
